How do I get rid of smoke odors?
Comments (13)I don't know if it's still available, but I've seen Kilz paint. It has the sealer and the paint mixed together. If you want to try cleaning before painting, try TSP. It's far more effective than the combination of things you mentioned. BTW-I don't think an unremovable, hard-wired smoke detector exists. Even hard wired detectors require batteries in case of an electrical outage. The detector must be removed for battery replacement. I live in an area with a large population of young renters. My city just adopted an ordinance requiring hard wired detectors in all rentals. It was quite controversial, and I learned a lot about smoke detectors in the local reports about the ordinance. People will find a way to remove them. Sounds stupid, but it happens....See MoreBest way to get rid of my grapes
Comments (6)"So what is the best, easiest, most foolproof way of getting rid of them and having them not come back that does not involve chemical herbicides?" Move away. Just kidding. But, if you want them gone that badly, give it up with the aversion to chemical herbicides... cut 'em off at ground level, paint the freshly cut stump with a full-strength 2,4-D/triclopyr product like Ortho Brush-B-Gon and be done with it. It's a tiny targeted application that will have virtually no 'environmental impact'. Otherwise, you're pretty much limited to cutting them off and continually pruning off any new growth that arises, every week or so - and if they're well-established, it may take years to deplete root reserves and starve them out....See MoreWhat's the best way to get rid of a lot of thick Ivy growth?
Comments (12)I used a combination tactic - and let me just tell you, I had no clue how many rocks, tree trunks and random other stuff was hidden under the mountain of English ivy - dig up and move or discard the dirt from the excavation around the roots, at least a foot down and throughout the removal area; pull the small pieces and make cuts with a hand saw in the bigger ones; immediately upon cutting apply (carefully) either salt mixed with a bit of water to make it almost like a paste or roundup for woody plants/stumps; wait for the thicker roots to begin dying; pull out as the plant begins to make it easier by being dead. Whether you use salt or roundup you will need to replace the dirt around the area, which is why I suggest moving as much as you can to a ‘safe part of the yard’ elsewhere and discard that which you have remaining in the areas affected by the process with the treatment. I did the flower bed areas around my patio when living in a SoCal townhouse and it took 6+ months to do it all on my own - the funny part is that the original ivy was planted at least 50 yards away. That stuff spreads in an unbelievably fast way, I will never not protest anyone planting it where my yard will be affected ever again. And I was lucky that it hadn’t started climbing the walls because it’d been planted as groundcover so the landscaping crew regularly took a trimmer to it to keep the height down - initially I’d hoped that the crew would do the removal but for those ‘exclusive use common area’ flower beds, it fell to me to do it....See MoreBest way to get rid of vertical gaps on ugly old-style drywalls
Comments (16)I've never done this myself, but you can purchase a particular kind of paintable wallpaper to go over the paneling. The previous owner of my house had this professionally done and 19 years later, it still looks like sheetrock. No idea who does this, but check this out for some inspiration. https://supernovaadventures.com/2017/02/using-paintable-wallpaper-to-cover-wood-paneling/ It may be cheaper when all is said and done, to just replace with dry wall, but who knows with prices for both labor and materials, which would be a better option. Here's some wallpaper. https://www.homedepot.com/pep/Patton-White-Paper-Pre-Pasted-Strippable-Wallpaper-Roll-Covers-55-Sq-Ft-LPP-2/308769189?g_store=&source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&&mtc=Shopping-BA-F_HDH-G-HDH-059_035_WALL_DECOR-Multi-NA-Feed-SMART-NA-NA-059_035_008_WALLPAPER_SS&cm_mmc=Shopping-BA-F_HDH-G-HDH-059_035_WALL_DECOR-Multi-NA-Feed-SMART-NA-NA-059_035_008_WALLPAPER_SS-71700000087316198-58700007429557722-92700066703294479&gclid=CjwKCAjwwsmLBhACEiwANq-tXIAT6pZAqDCo5CYMZDeL41ee-iSvzavwheR0xYLMaUdFkZYWvkEMkRoC-1gQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds...See Morenodakgal
