Any way to get rid of wild garlic?
Comments (17)I don't know if scalping is effective against Star of Bethlehem or not (it isn't a weed I have any knowledge of). I would suggest googling on this weed for effective control measures as scalping, depending on your grass type, may do more harm to the turf than the weed. A healthy lawn will be an ally against any weed. Not a cure all, but an aid. I wouldn't do anything to jeapordize or delay it's health and vigor while trying to control a weed as it will usually prove counter productive. I am including a link to a site on control of this weed. The bad news is that it appears chemical controls may be the only viable option other than hand removal which can be a very time consuming effort if the weed is widespread (and it sounds as if it is). Even if you are willing to resort to chemical controls, there aren't many that have tested as providing effective control of this weed. There are a couple listed in the link, but I am not familiar with them, their short and long term toxic effects or any other environmental/safety concerns. The link is for information only, I am not advocating the use of any control measure in the link. If you choose to use them please read the label instructions carefully and head them closely. Consider using a surfactant such as soap to increase the effectiveness and thus (hopefully) reduce the amount you have to use. http://ipm.missouri.edu/ipcm/archives/v14n5/ipmltr1.htm If any organic only adherants have an organic rememdy to suggest, now is the time to do it. I don't know of any organic controls that would work, but I certainly don't know everything, or anywhere close to it....See MoreMothballs or urine? What is best way to get rid of skunk?
Comments (87)I so wish the local animal control, or fish and game would come take care of the skunk I accidentally caught in my life trap (intended for cats that kill the yard birds). Anyway, I called local, state, fed. and they all said the same, "good luck." So this poor skunk is slowly starving/choking to death, because I'm cowardly and don't want to get sprayed or have the front yard stink for a month...so I have to find a way to deal with this! If the law, which I doubt, says I can't "relocate", then I'm left with killing the poor thing! This is going to haunt me in my nightmares! As for Kimmsr and her "well written" and well-researched input: state laws vary widely, it's best to call and find out if they'll help you before doing anything! If your state, like mine, won't help, here is a Youtube video that I think is the most humane I've seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9F16vTJXbk...See Morenatural way to get rid of dollar weed
Comments (21)My Sister in Florida just gave me a formula for getting rid of dollar weed. As follows 1 can beer (any kind) 1 can coke 1-1/2 cups dish detergent 1-1/2 cups amonia She said she sprayed it last week and the dollar weed is turning brown now. Good luck, hope it works for you. Forgot to say, use spray that you connect water hose to. This post was edited by HCMM on Sat, Apr 6, 13 at 14:11...See MoreWhat's the Best/Quickest Way to Get Rid of Paint Odor
Comments (6)Here are some ideas: Deodorize With Charcoal Charcoal is a tried-and-true odor removal technique that can be used to deodorize any powerful chemical odor. It's an excellent room deodorizer because of its large surface area, and its odor-adsorbent qualities. You can use activated carbon, but ordinary cooking charcoal is usually enough to remove the solvent odors from a freshly-painted room. Here's how you can use charcoal to remove the paint smell from a room: â¢Lightly crush whole pieces of wood charcoal into small pieces. It's OK to pulverize the charcoal into fine powder, but the particles may float around and stick to the wet paint. â¢Place the charcoal pieces inside a bucket together with some pieces of wet paper towels or rags. â¢Place the bucket in the middle of the room and leave it there overnight. The charcoal will then absorb the odors and fumes from the solvent, leaving you with a fresh-smelling room the next day. Light a Candle One time-tested way to get rid of solvent fumes from a freshly-painted room is to light a candle or a match to burn out the fumes. A trick used by many veteran house painters is to light a candle in the middle of the room and let it stay there for about three hours. The open flame will burn out the flammable substances in the solvent, like benzene and other hydrocarbons. Candles and matches still pose a potential fire hazard, especially if you've just painted an enclosed space. To minimize the risk of fire, place the candle on top of a bowl or a saucer of water to catch the hot wax, and prevent fire from spreading. It may also help to make a small dome out of wire netting to catch candle soot, especially if you've painted your ceiling. Use a Bucket of Water If you don't want to risk a fire hazard by lighting a candle to burn off the fumes, you can simply place a few buckets of water in the middle and around the room to absorb the solvent vapors. While not as effective as a candle, it is a safer option especially if you're painting a room finished or made with wood. The odors will be removed overnight, although you'll still have a faint smell of solvent that will linger and will go away in time....See Moresamayyz
