Focus first on getting yourself back on track so you don't get run down. Eat and get your rest, fresh air. It may take awhile to sort everything out. Talk to your doctor about this concern.

DH and DS both take meds because their thyroid quit producing. They both gained weight to beat heck. Once its regulated it comes off.

That said I sympathize with you. I am small boned also. I gained 12 pounds in a year (its gotta be the med I have been taking for the same length of time) and you can see every single pound. I just bought 3 new pairs of jeans so I don't look like a polish sausage stuffed into a hot dogs skin.

Being Hyperthyroid you tend to have a higher metabolism and once you raise up into the "normal" thyroid ranges you can gain weight. Talk to you doctor about upping your thyroid medicine (if you are taking any) and try to get your tsh down a bit more.

I'm doing the opposite of what you suggest. I started a bathroom gut on Oct. 18th and am very stressed. I've been with workers weekdays and my regular job, (flying to London), on Sat./Sun. I'm very tired but it's almost over. I rested this weekend.

It's my fault because I haven't been able to make the time for my 6 week check up. I'm not taking ant meds but I feel like my thyroid may be getting too low. I'm usually very warm and I've had the heat up at night lately.

I don't mind a little extra weight but I'm gaining about a pound every few days.

I had my thyroid removed almost 2 years ago and have been fighting the med thing ever since. At first, I lost weight (almost 30 lbs) and was very happy, but my fingernails got all nasty and my hair was falling out. The doctor determined the dose was too high so he cut it in half and I found the weight I had lost, but my fingernails started growing again and so did my hair!!

It's a losing battle.....weight or hair/nails...take your choice!! LOL

I have had all my thyroid removed in 2 different surgeries.The first was in 1976,they removed the right,scraped the isthmus,and took out a third of the left.Practically 20 years later to the month they found what was left of the left side was growing so i had to go back in for another surgery.I've been on thyroid meds for 37 years and they always have to be adjusted.I can tell when they are too low,but havn't figured out when they are too high,only the test show that.It's been a yoyo for all that time.I used to get tested every 3 months and have a permanent indention in my arm to prove it.Now they just test me once a year,or sooner if i demand it.

Losing weight is a constant struggle,but i don't let myself go over a certain weight.I have 5 # that i play with and that's it.I never go over that.

It sounds like if it's too high you lose weight and too low, you gain. I need to get tested soon. I've never been cold, I'm always warm. Lately I seem to have the heat up high. I'm also sleeping more often.

My thyroid is enlarged, but the levels are normal. I put on 20 lbs. in 4 years, but I figure that's just age creeping up on me. I'm too lazy to exercise.

Junkyardgirl - did they check your thyroid antibodies??

I was just on the scale and I've gained another 4 lbs!!!! This can't be happening. This is in just a few days.

DH had a Hyperactive thyroid when he was 17 (1969) and had it removed. Then about 13 years ago he was having all kinds of problems and after a year of testing they found out it had become Hypothyroidism.

They put him on medication and played around with it till they got the right level. The way he has kept the weight off and it also helped with his mood was to run at least 2 - 5 miles a day. He also ran several marathons a year. He now rides a bike because his knees are shot.

He has always ate very little. For 30 years he has eaten only a yogurt and apple for lunch and rarely eats desserts. And he never eats fried or battered foods or foods high in fat. He eats very small portions for a man his size and height (6'2"). I don't know how he does it, but his philosophy is "Eat to live, not live to eat!" I favor the later. Opposites attract.

I can't live like this. I love food. I'm careful what I eat but I want to enjoy eating. Ive always been thin. This will not work for me.
Today I was out all day. I live in the city and walked a lot, doing my errands. I felt foggy and tired all day. Just groggy and depressed but nothing to be depressed about. I hope I am now hypothyroid because at least that can be treated.
As soon as my bathroom is finished I am going to find a sport I will enjoy doing on a regular basis.

I think I'm going crazy. I got a call this morning from crew scheduling asking where I was. They said I was supposed to be flying to Japan today. I said, "no that trip is on Monday". I screwed up my days and got a missed trip. I was so upset. I have never done that in 25 years. I feel so spacy and confused. Is this my thyroid????

It's possible. Especially if you feel run down. Time to see your doctor and make sure your office HR is aware of your health so things like this don't reflect on your record.

Sure sounds like it, from everything I've heard from friends and sister who have had the problem. Can you get your levels checked again asap? If they put you off, tell them it's now affecting your work.

I just had it checked. He said the thyroid function was non-detectable. He immediately put me on meds. He said he was surprised I could function yet he said I could fly my trip.

Oh my! I'm sorry to hear this, but at least you have doctors who are working with you.

I'm going to have to change doctors. My temperature is usually around 97.1, but it drops down in the 95 degree range frequently. They just do a regular blood panel and tell me that I don't have hypothyroidism. This started about 3-4 years ago.

I can't lose weight no matter what I do -- I can count calories (1200 per day) and ride my bike 10 miles per day, work in the garden, workout on the bowflex, kayak or swim several times a week. The scales don't budge, not even 1/2 pound!

So, every few weeks, I will give up on calorie counting and eat what I want. But, I've stopped gaining weight. I weigh exactly the same thing that I've weighed for 3 years...after I gained 30 lbs! I got off of my beta-blocker when I retired as we did think that was contributing to the weight gain. I thought that if I exercised and counted calories, the weight would just fall off. It hasn't. I'll be 54 this week and I keep wondering if I just need to accept this as my new life. I was always thin and fit and I look in the mirror and can't believe what I see.
