My thyroid is 'in my shoes'

That's a quote from my doctor. I just returned from the office visit. He said my thyroid hormone levels are so low that they were undetectable at the lab. He said that he is surprised I am able to function at all. To be honest I can't really even type this post I'm so out of it. My thinking is very foggy and I can't concentrate at all. I'm tired and cold and swollen and puffy!!! At least this explains my 15lbs weight gain.

I sure hope the Synthroid hurries up and works,

Toss them, the urine has soaked into the leather as well as the insole. Yuk! how could you wear them out and feel comfortable knowing any minute the odor will be reeking!!! Also think of how sanitary your shoes are now. Sorry for the bad news, sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and toss and then make sure our shoes are not available for future "pee" sessions!!!LOL!! You could rinse shoes well under running water for a spell and let dry. Then spray with Lysol Spray, inside and outside, enough to drown the shoes, and hope it kills the germs and odor. Now you are ready to reek with smell of Lysol!! Ah! just toss them out and count your loss.

Went shopping tonight and tried two different brands of boots, both a little "combat" style and both hurt my feet which I thought was odd. I think I may need to go into a high price range. Rilie, those boots are cool. So you wear pants over them and they lay ok? I like those ariat clogs and found some local stores that carry them. Funny but they are at a Tractor supply store. Going to check them out. I just sit all day at work but want comfortable shoes for times I need to walk, like in a mall of if I go somewhere. I don't want to have to change shoes everytime I go somewhere. If you're not from this area it might be hard to understand what I'm talking about. Most people here do not wear winter boots unless they are going skiing, or playing in the snow, etc. Often we just have a little snow on the ground. Not enough for boots but regular dress flats are not high enough off the ground. I'm going to dig out some older booties I have and see if I can have them repaired. They were so comfortable, now if I can find them..... funnyart, I used to be a librarian! They do look comfortable.

I have Hasimotos but not PCOS. I've been using compounded hormones for years. In June I had my levels tested and after reviewing the results my Dr said she wanted to add just a little more progesterone and DHEA. She would like to add testosterone but I can't tolerate it. OMGoodness! What a difference! Reduced whole body inflammation, eye puffiness, facial skin was near porcelain, libido, anxiety all improved. So after the end of that month, I asked her if we could bump it up a little more. She did...it was too much so the 3rd month we went back to June's amt. That's when all hell broke loose and I thought I was going to die :o Here's what happened. When I got the new formula in June, it was "gritty" in texture. It absorbed but this was the first time the cream was gritty. I just thought it was the progesterone and/or DHEA. July's formula (more progesterone) was gritty as well. August's formula was smooth. Remember, I backed off July's progesterone to the June amt. Emailed my Dr about the formula difference. She said it was not supposed to be gritty and can't even absorb unless it's totally smooth and micronized. Well obviously it CAN work and DID. So I start on the (smooth) Aug. formula. Some of what I started to experience...face started breaking out, pore size increased, libido...gone! Swelling/inflammation came back, heart palpitations, digestive issues, fatigue, insomnia, emotional and cognitive problems and much more. I could barely put one foot in front of the other. Took me a little while to figure out what was causing all this as I have so many other physical problems including MS, FM. When I did figure it out, I stopped using the cream. Took about 3 days to start feeling better. I stayed off of HRT for about a month. I'm now on half of the dosage till I can do a retest of my levels. This is nothing to take lightly! These hormones can make or break you. I've been from one extreme to the other and shook out like a rag doll. Along with treating my dog for heart worms (rescue dog that came to us with heart worms) and not being able to leave the house (because he had to be still and keep his heart rate and blood pressure down but would experience separation anxiety whenever left) it's been a long, stressful, and debilitating summer.

Wow...You should feel better...amazingly better...really soon. It's good they found out. I had a friend with measurable, but very low levels, who couldn't load the dishwasher or form words properly, so it sounds like you are fortunate to do as well as you are under the circumstances. If the Synthroid doesn't do what you hope it should, I'm on Armour Thyroid, which is a natural thyroid supplement and offers T3 and T4, which can be more helpful to some people over the synthetics which only offer T4, relying on the body to convert to the needed T3. My naturopath preferred I use it over the synthetics and I've been happy with it. I researched it on the internet when he first suggested it and it seemed like a good choice.

Once I started Synthroid I felt a lot better within a week. After a month though I talked my doctor into adding some Cytomel (T3) and within a few weeks I had lost 5 lbs. I had been gaining up to that point. Still have a lot to lose, but hope it continues.

I did try Armour Thyroid first and it made me more Hypo! It does seem to be the thyroid med of choice though - IF you can find a doctor to prescribe it.

Thanks for the advice and great info. If anyone else has had this problem I would love to hear what helped.
I can't form words properly either. I can't spell or type and I input the wrong word into my sentence when I speak.

I've been on Synthroid for 37 almost 38 years.I have no thyroid of my own at all.It's all been removed.While the synthroid may make you feel better,just remember it may take some time to get it regulated correctly.Mine has been like a yoyo.In the beginning i had to be tested every 3 mos,and i have the indentation on my arm to prove it.The last several years it's been ok,but every so often it goes wacko,and i can usually tell myself when that happens.

It happened 2 1/2 years ago,but my t3&t4 test said it was ok,and i totally disagreed with those test and my dr,so he finally had some other test run that showed i was correct and they had to increase my dose.Then just a couple months ago it was too high again.Go figure!!!

I must say that most of the time i do feel fine though.

DS and DH both take Levothyroxine (not sure if its spelled right) they were both where you are about 10 years ago! It took awhile to get it up to where it should be.

I can usually tell when my thyroid dosage is out of whack because my hair and fingernails quit cooperating. Then the dr runs a blood test and it shows everything is fine..then I complain..and then he adjusts it up. Go figure!

When I needed a higher dose (temporarily), my joints hurt...Just general, all-over achiness...Nothing too obvious. I guess it must be different for everyone, so now that you've been found to have this problem, it's probably the first thing to suspect if something 'just isn't right'.

I'm feeling better today than I did yesterday. My body seems to react very quickly to medication. Maybe because I never take anything but herbs so when I go on meds it goes crazy. My thyroid function went from sky high to in my shoes in a matter of months.
I need to stay off the internet though. Last night I ordered the wrong item. My thinking is still screwed up.
susanjf, I read not to eat walnuts with the meds but they didn't say anything about cabbage. I eat a lot of cabbage but usually not for breakfast. LOL

I don't remember how they do it, but cruciferous veggies will up your thyroid levels...Can even make a person hyperthyroid, but it takes amazing amounts to do that, of course. My endocrinologist said to avoid milk/calcium with the medication....Just better to take it as soon as you get up or at least a while before breakfast so it's not with food.

I just read that soy products can affect the thyroid pill. Yikes, I'm really in trouble, I'm a semi-vegetarian, only eat fish, and cheese. I eat a lot of soy products.
Neither my doctor or the pharmacist told me of any pill or food interactions except for calcium.
