How normal are my 'normal' thyroid test results?

My doctor ordered thyroid blood work recently. I thought it was going to be a more complete profile, but all it measured was the TSH and FT4. The results look like they're just about smack in the middle of normal:

TSH - 2.4 (normal range 0.4 to 4.0)

FT4 - 1.08 (normal range 0.89 to 1.76)

But I remember reading something about misleading normals. Anyone know anything about this?

The report also says that I was fasting, which I wasn't. My thyroid felt a little low at the time. I always deal with that by taking kelp for a few days, but I refrained from taking it until after my blood was drawn.
