GW problems again?

IS anyone else having problems here at GW again? THe top of this page is all goofed up. None of the pics and hard to even find where to start a new post. I couldn't find my return to kitchen table linky after I answered Patti's whats for dinner post.

Yipee!! Sorry, just glad it is not my computer. lol I am having the same issues.

If they would just QUIT all their shenanigans and flashy ads, it would not be down every few weeks....

I remember the "good old days" when we paid $15 a year and didn't have to put up with all this garbage.

I got my profile page to update, you need to include some information such as name, birthdate that may have been empty to get it to update (make stuff up if you don't want to reveal something; I didn't figure out precisely what I needed to include). There is no message that you are missing information, I only got it to update correctly by guesswork. And, oddly enough my zone information there I changed to remove spaces but it is using my old data when I post, so it didn't fix the zone display anyway. Scott

Thank you, ma'am. I will try not to get too far off topic. Enjoyed watching the Siberian Tiger Nature program! The dahlias have all been cut to the ground. There are veggie beds dug out that can take the stems & leaves but, right now, that dahlia debris can stay in place. It will protect the roots if the Weather Service is wrong about frost. Except that 1 dahlia bed that was left exposed! If the WS changes its story - I'd better get out there and either dig those roots or cover them with a tarp! It would be good if the roots don't have to go down to the basement just yet. The weather is warming and there is finally some rain in our forecast. The basement room where the roots will spend the winter isn't very cool yet and it is a long way until spring. I have taken up the celery root but only because I am not sure how much cold it can take. The carrots are still out there along side the parsnips. But, I trust those things in the cold a lot more than the dahlias. I bet that dahlias can be a little tricky at higher elevations where the temperature swings are more extreme. Steve

Also, their formatting is having the opposite effect as well ... pictures that were formatted as smaller by using height= and width= are now showing up in their huge original size. For example, let's say I have posted 3 pictures side by side. The original size for the first one in pixels is 200x200, the second is 300x300, and the third is 800x800. Using formatting, I could have all 3 pictures show up as 200x200. Their new formatting is overriding the pictures and reverting them to their original sizes, so the 3rd picture is showing up as huge in comparison. Now, let's assume that 800x800 is the largest picture they will allow. If someone posts a picture that is larger than that, then it is automatically being resized down to their max of 800x800. As writersblock pointed out, that is making some of the pics too small to be legible. And they still have not fixed the font style. They still have it in this hard to read font. Can we please revert back to "do no harm" ? Tamara, where are you ?!?!?!?!

Today GW has been slow to load. In fact one thread never did load so had to go back to the list of threads and try a different thread altogether. So far today, the ad has not gone crazy covering the words. Hopefully the powers that be have mastered this problem. Like so many of you, I sense a shift in the people who post here and the GW atmosphere. I've only been around for 1 and 1/2 years, but I agree with Breezy that it seems that many of the long time members who posted a lot when I first found GW are not frequenting the site. This makes me sad. It is selfish on my part, but I had hoped that they would be around to help with my kitchen layout for our reno. They really give valuable insight! I have marveled at their skill and also their generosity of time spent helping others. So Breezy, Rhome, Marcolo, and so many more of you talented people please don't leave GW. Persons like me really need and appreciate your advice. You are Godsends to those of us who are floundering in this remodel maze!

When you have posted a message (or a reply), you'll get the infamous hinky screen, but it will have, in big bold letters, Your message has been posted. Just below that are the links to either view your message, or return to the Kitchen Table forum.

Mine was messed up yesterday with a huge landscaping ad which I had to delete at the top bar.

There was something goofy going on the internet last night; It wasn't just Garden Web. Around midnight, I tried to access a stock quote service and got kicked out every time. Something shut down my browser. A little sleuthing indicated that my Norton Security Suite was protecting my computer by shutting down the browser. It had logged an intrusion attempt. My computer was under attack last night.

At the same time, my wife's computer came under attack as well, but behaved a little differently. Everything was back to normal today.

HINT:

Someone above mentioned problems about getting back to the main GW page after replying to a message. The secret is: Keep the GW page up while you reply. Below is a little routine that works well for me.

1. Instead of left-clicking on a message link, Right-click on it. A drop down menu will appear. Choose "open in a new page".

2. In the new page, compose and edit your reply and then review. If the message is ok, click on "submit". The message will behave the same as always and the page will be rewritten with the invite to click on a link to return to the GW main page, but guess what, using the procedure above, you still have the old page. Merely delete the "invite to return" page. Your original page is still there hiding underneath the temporary page. You may continue browsing GW without having to reload the page.

You may have to refresh the original page if you wish to see you latest reply.
