What's for Dinner on Sunday?

I'm pooped. We defrosted and "organized" the chest freezer. Can you ever organize the darn things?

While rummaging in the frig I found the last of the kale from the garden that I had forgotten about. It's amazing how long kale lasts, it was still crisp and dark green. I made a soup using it, potatoes and leftover ham.

We took a pizza from the freezer and I doctored it up and we had it for lunch. While the oven was still warm I decided to make an apple cobbler, and used up all of the apples.

Now I have scalloped potatoes, a dish of braised cabbage, carrots and onions, and 2 stuffed pork chops in the oven for dinner. We'll be eating later.

I put my freezer items into the grocery shopping bags by categories. Vegetables, different meats, etc. Leftovers go in the baskets on top.

My supper was a small steak, a sweet potato, and leftover creamed corn. I love steak.

Nice day here today in my part of Ohio.

I defrost/reload the small chest freezer in 30 minutes. Ice Cream stays on top, heck with the rest, it will be found someday. Another non important day of trivial pursuit. Happy Hour on schedule. The feedbag will have shrimp cocktail, deep fried shrimp, and cole slaw. Don't dare make anything that will produce leftovers. That will come Thurs.

Nicole, I don't think garlic in a jar comes even close to fresh. Not by a long shot! It makes a difference in anything you're fixing that calls for garlic. It sure doesn't smell the same when cooking, does it? Isn't it nice that something so simple makes your husband so happy? Jasdip, I will make those potatoes soon. I love oven roasted potatoes and I love roasted garlic......how could the combination miss? Susan, I sure nuke left over burgers. They will lose a lot of moisture and fat, so I always put a paper towel under them before the reheat. Monica, thanks for letting us know where you got your pieroges. It still bothers me that I can't remember where I've had them. Maybe Michigan...I lived there for a few years.

rhizo, you're having the identical dinner we had last night. Somehow we were both in the mood for a steak an DH roasted potatoes in the open garage doorway on the gas grill (it was raining) and cooked the steak. A nice treat for both of us. I had some powdered au jus and made some, sliced some strawberries too for a side. Today I breaded three limits of razor clams, and those too went out to the garage. Table, electric skillet, no frying odors in the house. Again in the open doorway because its still raining. Two friends stopped and picked some up, DH took a platter to his sister and her husband. We'll have whats left with -- another coincidence, Panera broccoli cheese soup! I really love that soup and a rainy day is perfect for it. There was one more limit clams and I took 1/2 those raw to a former elderly neighbor who prefers to cook her own (and can't dig them any more, DH keeps her supplied), kept the other half here and I will grind those and make clam patties and French fries tomorrow night. In my kitchen, I'll fry patties in my kitchen, just not breaded clams ;)

Oh my, some setiously delicious dinners around the kitchen table tonight! I love chicken fried steak with gravy....I should make it soon, Robert would be soooo happy. Betsy, tell me about the carrot slaw. Sounds like something that I would like. Jasdip, everything sounds wonderful. Isn't that dressing fabulous? I've got some ribs thawing for us to fix tomorrow. Love the sound of yours. Raven, your evening sounds like so much fun and a treat, as well. I love a good gumbo and I have a feeling that yours is some of the best. I've never had boudin. I think I might be afraid of it, lol. Oh, yummy....turkey! One of my all time favorites! I can smell it now. Angelaid, at least you had a back up plan. That shrimp creole sounds awfully good, though. I'll bet we know what you'll be having tomorrow!

Most of us either don't know or don't think about the high altitude issues with cooking. I can only imagine the challenges! How long did it take to cook the rice? Do you fix it in large batches and freeze some for another time? I haven't had a slow cooker in years but since reading so many of the fabulous sounding meals over the years, I'm going to add one to our list of 'must haves'. Stacy, did you cook and mash the rutabaga together, like I do? Love it that way. I read these posts to Robert last night as they came in and we both commented on how incredible everyone's kitchen (whole house) must have smelled. I baked a chunk of salmon and will make a big, crunchy salad of mixed spring greens, baby kale, marinated mushrooms, green onions, and tomatoes to have with it.

I'm using the same balsamic vinaigrette for the salmon and the salad.

Salmon with yellow squash and zucchini. We wrap it all in foil with butter and lemon juice.

It was a beautiful day here also. I cleaned and vacuumed my car out. My husband mowed for the last time this year, along with some other neighbors.

Miserable rainy day today. Just got back from taking Lauren to her dorm. We had our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Long drive home in the rain. I just stuck a pizza in the oven. I don't like eating this late but no choice, other than not eating. Work tomorrow. ) :

Hashbrowns, vegetable soup, and a hot dog. Doesn't that sound disgusting??? But it was good.

Shirley, we seldom have steak, and it's a real treat for us. Sounds good.

Old Fixer, your seafood sounds good. You should have something else besides shrimp :-)

Rhizo your dinner sounds absolutely delicious!

Carabubble, salmon cooks nice in packets. I'll bet yours was perfect.

Kath, did you have the turkey, stuffing, and the whole works yesterday?

Susan, did you say baked peas? I've never heard of that, or creamed tuna. Your meal sounds like real comfort food. I like a tuna casserole with peas in it.

Shirley, hubby would love your meal. He just loves hot dogs, and with vegetable soup and hashbrowns, he'd be in his glory.

I let me daughter pick the meal for her birthday so we had Bruschetta Chicken, salad, bread, birthday cake.
