My Dh and I are having a picture taken for the church directory. I would like some ideas on pose or positioning. I know the photographer will have his or her own ideas. Is there a website that I can look at. Another thing is my DH will be wearing a long sleeve plain khaki shirt. I want to wear a sort of tiedyed striped jacket. It has black and khaki stripes but they are not definite stripes. Kind of almost like torn paper edges. It has small stitching on it of other colors. I would wear a green or light purple or black pullover shirt under it as that is the color of the stitching. It is a shorter jacket and long sleeves. We would both wear black pants. Do you think this would be ok? I am terrible at coordinating clothes. Any advice would be appreciated. We are doing this tomorrow night, so I need help fast, TYIA

Bengardening, I highly recommend that you choose a solid color outfit to wear in the photo. That way the outfit doesn't distract from from your faces.

Luckily your husband is wearing khaki, almost any solid color will compliment that.

If DD doesn't have room for them but she wants you to keep them, can she pay for the storage space? (and arrange it, too!) I have so many pictures of my own that I have actually stopped TAKING them. I think I should take them more, but since every one I *have* taken is still in the little paper envelope and stuffed into a box or on a shelf, I just can't see the point anymore. It's sort of depressing. And I'd tackle them, but that means a big upheaval, and there are other more important things to deal w/ now. I's frustrating, isn't it, when people think *you*, bcs you're the mom or the one w/ the house, or whatever, insist YOU should keep stuff THEY want? Honestly, someone's willingness to bother is evidence of how much they REALLY care. If DD or DM REALLY want those photos, they'll find a way to store them. If they're not willing to stuff them under their bed, or line THEIR living room w/ them, then honestly they don't REALLY want them. So don't have any guilt at telling them they've got 2 months to get the ones they want, and then you're throwing them out or giiving them back or dropping them off, whichever. Good luck!

Thanks so much. Guess what...The Mason was at my house today cleaning off all the old bricks. He told me that I MUST either paint my brick or put new brick on. Apparently the mortar on the house is old and not pre mixed. Therefore it is crumbling. He said the paint would work as a sealer... So Now I am Back to having to PAINT THE BRICK...uggg I am going to try Coastal Fog by BM and a Green for the shutters like Brookside Moss BM......

Alstroemerias in flower - yep. See, I could take a photo as proof but you are just going to have to take my word for it. They are an outstanding plant - tall and vivid, and in bloom for months and months as long as I keep pulling the spent blooms. The cultivar name is 'Etna'. TBF, they do have the benefit of a tall, south-facing pale brick wall. Once again, I am steeling myself for another attempt to sort this photo thing. Will indeed get 12 year old to help. I am going to try to post from the phone...I have a recollection that I have tried that, various times, when a screen pops up, baldly stating 'Chrome has stopped working'...and I never have any idea where to go after that. Sigh, years ago, I was a perfectly competent user of Macs and Windows, able to upload, download, burn off CDs, use peer to peer (for torrents), CAD design, romp through most software etc.etc. Then my camera and PC died within weeks of each other. Chromebooks were cheap (and I was broke) and hyped as being the best for simpletons (not quite in those words but I am sure you get the gist). I resisted a smartphone until the pandemic when the offspring nagged me almost to death, but I have never really got on board with them (spends more time in a drawer than in actual use). Have become almost a Luddite (and definitely a shy and socially awkward recluse, so I bloody loved lock-down).

Only one wall is angled - the one you've chosen as the TV wall. The other one, with the interior door, is straight. What are the green marks on the floor plan? What do you think about another chair in the vacant corner by the french doors? This is where the best terrace views are. But as the french doors open inward, everything at that end of the room would need to move further back into the room by at least 30" to allow the doors to open. We are considering replacing them with sliders to mitigate the lost space at that end of the room. And perhaps placing the TV on the straight wall makes more sense than the angled one? What do you think? Also, is there any way to make the dated built-ins on the fireplace wall look more upbeat? Or should we get rid of the whole lot and start over? Love your ready ideas and speedy feedback. Thank you so much!

Here's a website with sample photos for couples. Some are romantic poses, but not all. I'm thinking a church directory might want a tight shot of your heads and shoulders, but I could be wrong about that.

Don't know your age, but in my church directory, couples are always dressed in their "Sunday-go-to meeting clothes."

Very young couples sometimes dress down a little, especially if it is summer time.

I agree with what Sue-va said. I had my picture taken this year for the church directory. Darker clothes look best.

I wouldn't get so fussy over such a photo. I put on a shirt, sat down, click, and it was over. Shoulder shot. People look at your face, not what you are wearing. You could sit there naked and nobody would know. But being a church, take an Apple and a Fig Leaf.

I also have a red jacket that has a khaki trim down the front with buttons. There is two dogs outlined on the bottom of it with khaki trim around the bottom too. It has a mock beige turtle neck with small outlined dogs around the neck. It is long sleeve too like they say it is supposed to be. It is not a real bright red though.

Some of our families have a distance shot, but with most singles or couples it's just a head shot.

Some dress in their Sunday best ... but others dress less formally.

Wear solid dark clothing, no prints. Doing that will not date the photo. Also, a photographer's trick, try to be conscious of keeping your neck high and your shoulders low rather than slouching, it will take ten pounds off you and we all can use that.

Guess it didn't matter. We didn't like any of the pictures anyway. We picked the best one for in the directory and we get a free 8x10. I wouldn't have spent any money on them and besides that we went over there without any money.
