I went to the GW the other day, to see if I could find a birdcage my daughter had seen and was kicking herself for not buying.

I found it...couldn't believe it was still there. It's a round one with a dome top. She wants to put old Christmas tree balls in it for decoration.

Denny met me there...he found a brand new Iowa Hawkeye swede jacket...I found a sweater for me from CJBanks...a couple of the books I like to read...a box with card making stuff in it...and a white wicker three tiered shelf for my bathroom. I was doing the happy dance.

Have you all beat. Got an robin egg blue Lands End turtleneck last night for 49 cents!! Senior discount day and it had been reduced to 99 cents. Almost was embarrassed to take it. I go every Tues..only buy good labels and get great stuff.

very nice. Everytime I check out the goodwill (no salvation army here.) there is nothing in decent shape or it's obviously from the 1980's. same with Value village

As I've mentioned here before, one of my cousins shops at a Goodwill full of high-end designer labels. I'm the poor relation! But I'm happy with my more modest finds. I just washed the jackets. They look great!

You really found some great bargains. My Goodwill is one of the dumpier ones - I have found some furniture there for the kids to use in their dorms or apartments but never any clothing. You had a really great day.

Those prices seem high compared to our Goodwill but still good prices.

The last few weeks I've mostly picked up small things here and there. Last week I got a 2x2 professionally framed embroidered piece for $2.99. I love it. I haven't clean it off yet - that drip in the second picture is just on the glass. There are a few small stains on the linen but that just tells me this piece was special to someone since the stains had to be there before it was framed and they wanted it framed anyway. You can only see them when you look at it closely.

Our Salvation Army prices have been going up, but I think these were particularly high because they're good labels (especially for this area).

The most I ever spent at a Salvation Army for one item was about a dozen years ago when I paid $50 for a long black wool Evan-Picone coat, lined in black & white check wool. The same day, I paid $25 for a gorgeous fake fur coat for my daughter Jill. We had fun! (And I still have my coat.)

I went to GW yesterday and found a slow cooker I've been haunting the GW's and flea markets for! Couldn't believe I found it! Looks brand new,never used.It's a six qt one that the pan sits on a base.I've had one for about 25 -30 yrs but it's on its last leg.I still use it a lot though.Now I have a new one! Yippee Skippee! Paid 9.99 for it,no cord but I have a cord that fits it.

I'm enjoying getting back to rug hooking now that the weather is cooler. It's a seasonal activity for me because I don't like to handle wool in hot weather.

Love the rugs, Susan. I collect antique ones and hang some of the ones I don't want my pets to destroy on the wall. Great art.

I used to go to the SA but we now have a new thrift shop called Community Aid in our old Superpetz. For regular clothing like shorts, tees, sweats, turtleneck, pants, jeans, capris the price is never higher than $4.99, and on senior day that would be $2.50 but most things are priced at $2 and 3 dollars. I buy casual clothes usually R. Lauren, Eddie Bauer , LL Bean , Lands End Banana Republic, J. Jill and J. Crew..The neighborhood is upscale so the clothes are brand new looking. If they are not, they go to the homeless shelters.

I used to love the thrift shops near my job. they'd have a special-all you can fit in a bag for $2. I got all my kids their clothes that way when they were younger. Now my older daughter loves to shop at the thrifts-she's an art/design major.

It was back this summer, not recently, but I found a great, great buy on a quilting frame and light for the quilting frame. It was still in the shipping box, and so was the light. The frame had been opened but taped back, but the light had not..I took a chance and hauled it home for 15.00. The sales lady said she was glad to get it out of the store as it had been in there over a year. I frequent that S.A. so don't know why I haven't seen it. Everything was in the box, including set up instructions and a booklet on how to start your quilt. My husband put the quilting frame together for me and I was estatic. They obviously did not know what they had, or people just do not want to quilt anymore. It was a Grace Z44 quilting frame. Yippee for me! Someones trash---my treasure! Many years of pleasure!!

Susan .....I just love your rugs! The whale tale looped around the circle framing the cat....cute idea! That turtle is "to die for"! I remember your posting pics of it earlier! WOW! Your name brand purchases are a deal too!

Thank you, Alisande. I had to go look up the grace Z44 like mine when you said you looked it up and omg..i about fainted. Omg! and it was in the plastic wrap to boot. It must have been from an estate or something. My little treasure. I love it even more.
