I had a very good day at the Salv. Army senior day.

First I found these candleholders $2.63 for all 3 and each of ths smaller ones had a $49.99 price tag on the bottom!

Then I found 7 hen napkin rings for $2.25. I have since painted them white as I did not like the putty color.

The 4 small blue/white plates were $1.50.

The 4 rooster salad plates, and 4 rooster cup and saucers were $3.75

The Garden Angel tealight holder was $2.25.

The 4 watering can plates were also $1.50.

I found some blue/white gingham placemats that are the same as the napkins in the plates, so they will be in a future tablescape.

I keep thinking I have enough plates and then I find more really cute ones and they are sooo inexpensive, how can I resist?? Rhetorical question. LOL.

WOW, Candy. You are one of the SUPER SHOPPERS when it comes to finding great stuff and at great prices. I'd have bought everything you did!! And painted the hen napkin rings white too. LOL. Those candleholders are really gorgeous! What a fantastic find in them.

Hey...I just remembered...Aug 17th is National Thrift Shop Day. I was going to put out a "challenge" for the gang here to do a table setting or just a table vignette with recent TS finds. You already have the finds, LOL, so you can start planning yours!
Anyone else want to play? I'll post a new thread on it later in the week as a reminder.

Candy, if I could travel, you'd be getting an UN-invited guest to take shopping. LOL.

I haven't been to a SA in years...
There's not one here, where I live now. I used to go all the time, but their prices were never as cheap as what you paid.
I love those B&W dishes and am looking forward to seeing how you use them. The Rooster Set is really nice as well as the Watering Can plates. Your Garden Angel tea light holder is really cute...In fact Everything you purchased is so nice.
Do they have a 'Sally's Ally' at your SA? They used to have that at the one I went to, and everything was priced higher in that section. Sometimes it would be disappointing because they would price something too high, that it wasn't a 'bargain'. No fun in that.
Look forward to seeing everything you bought 'in action'..

Great buys, nanagrandma! And if your picture is any indication, you think so too! You have such a pretty face and wonderful smile! I thought for sure that purplemoon was going to scheme to get that teapot from you for her little teapot garden. he-he I think it is so pretty. But I'm a sucker for teapots and butterflies! You can't help but smile when you look at that sun bank too. That would be adorable on a totem or just glued to the top of a pipe (with a flange) and stuck in the garden like others have suggested. I can't wait to see what you do with your other finds. I'm sure they will be stunning used in a totems ... especially that purple and green vase. That sort of drawer construction of the dovetails in a drawer are typical of "early machine age"...that is not hand done but maching done....likely about the turn of the century. The powdery smudges are probably just sawdust from years of pulling the drawers in and out. Let it sit for a bit and if they show more sawdusty stuff....then worry about bugs...powderpost beetles. Be sure before you paint it....it could become a cool "primitive pine" looking piece. Linda C

I have a 45yr old step brother, who I love dearly, but bless his heart, I have to say Randy is mentally one sandwich short of a happy meal and that is further complicated by a slight physical disability in his legs. As you might imagine, he had a very difficult time finding employment, but about 15 years ago he went to work for Goodwill Industries. To my complete surprise, Randy has a very good salary with a health & welfare package, including an IRA. On top of that, Randy has a wardrobe that some ppl would die for. Randy works on a van that goes around doing contract cleaning services for offices and apartment complexes and every day when the van returns to the processing plant he goes in the store and sees what they just got in. If one were to see Randy on the street, judging by his wardrobe they would think he was a doctor or lawyer or something. When I retired I mentioned to Randy that I wanted to get back into serious photography and he told me I should go to the store and see what they had for equipment. I did as he requested more or less as a coutesy to him and I did not find much at the store that I was interested in, BUT, the lady at the store told me most of the good photo equipment is sent to central points where they list it on the Goodwill online auction. I didn't even know they had such a thing, but when I got home I punched up the website, and wow!!!! Was I in for a surprise. In the last 4 years I have bought two professional digital cameras and 9 professional film cameras. (I bought the film cameras because they came in package deals and had extra lenses I could use on the digitals.) I am now four years into this project and to date I have amassed two Pentax DSLR's with 16 lenses and a long,long, long list of extras, all for less than $2000, whereas just one of the cameras cost over $900 on Ebay and about $100 or more each for the lenses. Needless to say, every day when I turn my computer on my first stop is the Goodwill auction, then on to GW....LOL. Last year I did all my xmass shopping on the Goodwill auction and everybody wanted to know where I found the things I got, but that still remains my secret. About once a week Jan & I go bargain hunting at the local Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul and a local thrift store. We find its more fun that yard sales or the flea market and quite often we find much better deals, by example, last week I bought 5 large Pyrex glass baking dishes for about $1 each. All I can say is, if you like shopping at the thrift stores you would love the online auction. They have dozens of categories and there is something for everybody at super bargain prices, not to mention that the proceeds go to help ppl who are less fortunate than we. It was back this summer, not recently, but I found a great, great buy on a quilting frame and light for the quilting frame. It was still in the shipping box, and so was the light. The frame had been opened but taped back, but the light had not..I took a chance and hauled it home for 15.00. The sales lady said she was glad to get it out of the store as it had been in there over a year. I frequent that S.A. so don't know why I haven't seen it. Everything was in the box, including set up instructions and a booklet on how to start your quilt. My husband put the quilting frame together for me and I was estatic. They obviously did not know what they had, or people just do not want to quilt anymore. It was a Grace Z44 quilting frame. Yippee for me! Someones trash---my treasure! Many years of pleasure!!

You can't go wrong spending so little money for such a thrill. :) You found some great stuff, and I am absolutely ga-ga over the blue and white plates!

Karen, I thought your challenge would be to see what good stuff everyone could find at their local TS on that day! lol.

It is strange that the SA's have closed some of their stores and opened some that are actually like going into a department store!!
I haven't encountered a Sally's Alley, but they do have what they call their boutique area with some of the nicer things there, but even those will qualify for the Senior discount!

I figure since I can get the discount, I am saving $$ by not going to the malls!!LOL.

than at the Mall.
When my DM first introduced me to SA, many years ago, they were just beginning to change their 'style'. They used to be for people who couldn't afford 'new', and had so many great items for so little. But when they became the 'In Place' to shop for home decor, they started with the higher priced fancier items..and as you said, 'Boutique' items.
Oh well, as the saying goes..'Nothing Good Lasts Forever'...Although, I must say, you found great things, ..and with your $$ 'Discounts'...even Better!!

What a great shopping day you had! Not a thing there that I wouldn't have wanted too! Those candle holders were obviously your best bargain, but you will have fun with the rooster plates, and those blue/white are always popular. The watering can plates will look wonderful with gingham placemats, perfect for a patio lunch. I am so impressed by the prices on your items, how could you resist?

It's hard to pick, but the watercan plates are my favorite. You really found some deals. Be sure and show us how you use things.

Jaybird, I found 3 burgundy pillar candles at Good Will for the candleholders and now they are on the side of the big soaking bathtub. I just got off of the golf course and it was really humid out tonight (whats up with that? CO is supposed to be dry!) so I may just go use them and the tub and wash off some of the "glow." LOL

Frou, there are definitely new tablescapes waiting to be created!! I'll post them as I get them done, although DH doesn't really understand why I keep setting tables that we don't eat at. HA

Good bargains, candy! My fav is the B&W plates ...pretty! Looking forward to your t'scapes... & my DH thinks the same as yours...just smiles & doesn't say a word. LOL!

PMoon..I like your challenge of Nat'l TS Day...Aug. 17th...maybe we can go with it! Busy outdoors but it seems a losing battle this yr...but love it anyway...humidity down some today...no rain & about 85...I know you're in HOT AZ!

Candy, wonderful items you found at super prices. Hope you used your candles and took a nice long bath while enjoying them. I have always wanted to golf but haven't tried it yet. Can hardly wait to see your tables with your neat dishes on them.

Karen, if I can fit a TS table in, I'd love to come play again.

Candy, tell your DH you set tables for all your Invisible Friends to enjoy. And we certainly love being invited to your place to see them!

Party, we could do a Show Your Thrift Finds thing on the 17th, but since we do that everytime we go shopping, LOL,
I didn't think that would be as much fun as using NEW finds in a table vignette. With or without dishes.
I went to my GW yesterday and was sorely disappointed in no real finds. I have a feeling last Sat was half-off day and I missed it, and they haven't restocked well yet. I bought two little salad plates in an Autumn color, and some books as I read a lot. Oh, did find a purple glass vase. Tho its so dark you can't tell its purple unless light hits it.

Yes Jeanne, we're hotter than Hades again. 113 this week.
Last week was fantastic...grey skies, some rain, and even a few days in the high 80s. Not something we see much of in Phoenix. I LOVED it. But I keep reminding myself our heat is dry and I feel bad for you guys dealing with heat AND humidity.
