I am who I am.........

I happen to be quite content with my gender (male) and over the years I have come to accept that I am not the prettiest ornament on the tree, but this is what the Lord gave me to work with, so ain't no doctor gonna hack away on the guise of cosmetic surgery.

My hair is long and I have a full beard, which I intend to allow to get much longer.... Now I know that some ppl are turned off by men with a long beard, but I happen to like it, and in truth, the only person I really have to please is me, all others can either accept me for who and what I am or they can go about thier business and leave me alone.

Actually, the long hair and beard works very well for me. When I am outdoors shooting nature photos the beard not only keeps my face warm on cold days, it also adds to my camoflage so I don't scare the subjects away.

And when I am shooting pictures in the city, I usually wear a pair of jeans or sweat pants, a tee shirt or sweat shirt and a down vest or work coat and I carry my camera gear in a plain looking backpack. When most ppl see me on the street they think I am homeless and they avoid me,,which is really what I want in the first place, and in addition, when the muggers see me, they don't realize that I am carrying three or four thousand dollars worth of photo equipment so they leave me alone too.

And now for the big one, what animal would I like to be? Contrary to the beliefs of some ppl, I don't believe that I evolved from a monkey and I have no desire to reverse evolution. If ppl insist they evolved from a monkey never let it be said that I denied them the right to have monkeys in their family tree, in fact, judging from some of the ppl I see on the street, some of their ancestors are still amongst us, but I am quite content to be a homo-sapien, which I believe was a devine creation of God, and God don't make mistakes.

Aptly applied to my female gender...I second this opinion. :-) Although...I'm rather hesitant to wander too far from my relatively safe boundaries these days...in my younger years...I always emulated the local populace of whatever area of the world I was in. It worked just as your long hair and beard do, Lazypup...allowing me to assimilate.

But seriously - Cute little bugs out of glass bottles! Furniture out of window shutters - garden jewelry out of old sports balls and car part etc. new life for things that want to live on and on. The pictures of my curb finds are soon to follow.... and The Fantastic instructions you all have shared the tips of HGTV - Junk Bros - gardening by the YARD... or inch not to mention FREE CYCLE! Wow Stand Up and take a Bow Garden Web! P. S. Once I saw some of those little garden kids... (stuffed dolls etc.) out by someones curb... It scared me so bad... I was on my way up to the door of the house to tell the owner HEY YOUR KIDS ARE TOOOOOOOOOO close to the curb. Good nite. Thanks for all the pictures and support I'm using all the tips! It could be one of the oakworms, Sue, probably the spiny oakworm/anisota stigma. This cat is highly variable in coloring, but it has the long, red-spotted purple style "horns" that few moths have. If it were me, I'd offer it some oak leaves - still, it may not eat them, because when you see caterpillars wandering around they're usually going to pupate/cocoon. MissSherry

Suebot - don't think i'm going to tell you anything that somebody else hasn't said, but since i've had too much experience with deer & rabbits, i figured i'd concur with the remedies that worked for me. i used to live/learned to garden on nantucket and martha's vineyard, where the deer are at least as unreasonably tame and probably more abundant than they are in ct. i've heard stories of people standing 10 ft away from them yelling at them while they chomp on their hydrangea flower buds. one woman i was talking to claimed she saw the deer attacking her dalmation!! anyway, my first thought about your original message was are you sure all damage is due to deer and not rabbits? - when they stand on their hind legs, they can eat quite high - on a couple of my client's properties on the islands, i had more problems with bunnies than deer, especially with my daylilies & echinacea. so, i also found success with the deer away spray products; i can't remember which one i used, but i believe it had garlic & mint in it and i actually liked the way it smelled. the directions said to spray every couple of weeks (??), but i found that i had to spray every couple of days or so & definitely after a rain. it was pretty time consuming. unfortunately, my other success was fencing in the gardens. i just tried to be decorative about it - i used nice cedar posts with caps, bird netting @ 4' high (you can't really see it, so the garden still looks nice), i hung rope along the top of the netting (for a nautical look...). I did throw netting on top of the gardens in the spring until things grew too tall, but i have to admit, the deer hopped in a couple of times (- that would've been a mess i kind of would have liked to see). i now live in maine and have a large cutting garden in my back yard, a good distance from my house and i use the bird netting as the fencing (simply because it was the only fencing i could find that would be high enough in one piece) and it works (doesn't handle snow load, though). i see deer in the back and they walk right around the garden. chipmunks are now my problem. unfortunately, my true feeling is that if the deer want to get to something, they will. sorry to be so lengthy, good luck. just out of curiosity, do you have phlox and is it being eaten - that always gets destroyed the worst for me. -mara

We bought our land 4 years before we built our home. We wanted to build our dream home and were not in a hurry to rush into it and then regret decisions made too quickly. I was the designer on the project and honestly enjoyed all that it entailed. We also had a wonderful builder that made the whole process go seamlessly and stress free. After we chose a house plan and had it updated to include the must-haves on our list, I poured over those plans for hours and hours making sure each room was as ideal as possible. Now is the time to decide if you want an HVAC duct in that place or a light switch or outlet in that spot. Decide if you want floor outlets, special outlets in pantries or cleaning closets. Are the rooms the right size? Could a couple feet make a difference anywhere? I sure wish we had made our laundry room 3 feet wider. Choose as many products as you can before your builder gives you his estimate. If you want granite and he's giving you laminate pricing the cost will be more. Also, painting the interior all one color is less expensive than having several rooms painted differently. Are you going with pre-painted siding or having the exterior custom painted? Are you using brick, cultured stone or natural stone? Huge difference between brick and natural stone. Plumbing fixtures vary in price as do lighting and appliances. Make sure he's taking your choices into account with his bottom line. Think about any upgrades in insulation, soundproofing, radiant heating, etc. The best advice I can give from someone who's been there, done that, is to sit down and really think about how you want the house to look, function and feel....and cost. Are there things you can't do without? For us it was a 3rd garage, his & hers master's closets, a computer space off the kitchen area where we can monitor our son, and a particular type of kitchen layout. Break the house plan down room by room if it's overwhelming but KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. If you're unsure of that then you can be talked into a lot of stuff you will find out later you really didn't need or want. Almost all of us have to stick to a budget so the trick is getting what you want overall at a price you can afford. This website is a treasure trove of information that I'm sure will benefit you in the days to come. Good luck on your build and keep your chin up.

Not willing to even consider a chimp as possibly a distant cousin ... way back, that is?

Probably less menacing than some critters that many of us would find on our family tree, were we to search back a ways.

P.S. My hair around the edges of the head was getting rather long (but there's little left on top) until a few days ago, when son's lady sheared me, as I'm about to go out into civilization. And I don't carry a beard.

By the way ... you did mention some rather long hair in your vicinity, didn't you? O.K. - not over the whole body, like on chimps.

We all need to be happy with ourselves, you know who you are and you are happy with it...good for you. You don't care what people think of you.....good for you.

At bedtime, my Sis looks just like she did when she got out of bed that morning. It works for her.

Lazypup, you are loved for who you are. Never change a bit. I am glad there are others who love who they are as much as you and I do, I wish others felt the same. What a much happier world it would be!

Joyful,,,I don't think there are any chimps in my family tree,,,if there are any animals it would be horses,,,at least the back half of them if you know what I mean...LOL

Now I am not gonna tell you how much body hair I got, but when I first got married my wife introduced me to a number of new words that I didn't know, like Sasquatch, Yeti, Bigfoot and the Missing Link....

I hear you lazypup. I swore I never do the comb over thing. Early one summer I went to the pool with my kids and realized the next day that I'd sunburned the top of my head. Had to be one of the most depressing days ever. I've had a buzz cut ever since. Now, bigbaby tells me I have more hair on my butt than on my head. Yet, she loves me anyway. Go figure.

My Dad was the same way, Lazypup. Not with the hair and beard, since he was bald and couldn't grow facial hair because of facial cancer and a tissue transplant, but in the way he dressed when he was out with his cameras. He was a physician, but photography was his passion. He took black and whites, and would go out every chance he could and snap all day long. Not only did he dress for comfort, many times he would have his very well behaved dog Max (an Australian shepherd) with him in some of the roughest parts of Chicago. He was never bothered with that dog by his side.
