Yummy..... I can almost smell your Oatmeal bread!

We're having ham and sweet potatoes and fresh broccoli.

It doesn't get so cold here on the Keweenaw peninsula (winter lows in the 20's usually) but we have LOTS of snow (over 16 feet in an average winter) and I'm planning lots of soups, stews, and other comfort foods for the months to come!

Your Chicken Wild Rice Casserole sounds good to me. It's warm and sunny here...a good day to sit outside and grill something. But, Jammer won't be home tonight so I will warm up something for dinner. I'd like to come spend a day or two in your snow.:0)

Boy that casserole and bread sound good. It's in the mid 60s here right now, cloudy and breezy but it's so nice compared to what the average temp is I just have to enjoy it while I can. Went to Red Robin for lunch and I'm stuffed so supper will probably be nothing.

I am fixing a new recipe for mini meatloaf. They will be on the carb heavy side, so the rest of the meal will have to be veggies. Probably steamed broccoli and cauliflower and a ceaser salad. The last 2 tomatoes from the garden will be sliced and a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar added.

Just bought 4 split chicken breasts. Will do a slow roast in the oven with olive oil and a bit of Montreal Chicken Seasoning.

A neighbor sent over a large container of cooked tomatoes (from her garden). Thought I'd do a homemade tomato rice soup (and make a salad for the chicken), or use tomatoes to do a spanish-type rice to go along with the chicken.

I forgot to mention what I am having for dinner. DUH!
I took out chicken breast (not sure how I am going to fix them)
along with that there will be Fried Rice (rice a roni) and frozen mixed veggies.

I will be sharing dinner with Linda & Moni (and DD Kalie is coming for a free meal too! lol) in Des Moines! Either Legends or Okoboji Grill! I will have to see what jumps out at me on the menu!

Unfortunately it is raining and getting colder...otherwise we were going to go and sit on Kalie's deck for a while. So, hopefully we don't get too rowdy that they kick us out! LOL

Aww, me so sad. I wish I could be there but life gets in the way. I have had a sinus infection for quite a while and on top of that I went and had 4 front teeth prepped for veneers. ow! now my face hurts too. I can't eat anything that might disturb my temp teeth plus my whole head hurts,,,I'm guessing we might order out or in or whatever makes me not have to cook. Nothing sounds good right now. Seeing you all sounds pretty good though.

Connie: I'd love to pop in for dinner tonight, but I'll just stay here in Ohio where it's in the high 60s/low 70s. That's supposed to come to an end in a couple of days though. :(

Dinner here will be some kind of leftovers or soup/sandwich. I do a big grocery shopping day once a month and today was it. I'm exhausted.

A big ole chuck tenderloin roast, potatoes, carrots and celery. It's in the oven right now.

Leftover Chinese take-out tonight. But we will still have rice, so tomorrow will be fried rice with ham, peas, scallions and peppers from the garden, and whatever other goodies I can find. It's my favorite part of the leftovers.

There will be no supper for me!! Kelsey (2nd GD) gets out of school at noon and she and I went to a local tea room/gift shop/ antiques store for lunch. They have the best salad bar I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot!! I had cream of spinach soup, fresh fruit, cornbread salad, tuna salad, homemade pimento cheese, spinach salad, black eyed pea salad and homemade croutons. OMGoodness. It's delicious. This place is always full. So, there will be no supper for me unless it's a container of yogurt. I'm still full.

Its my Gramma's recipe for oatmeal bread. I don't have it on the computer, but sure will type it out after a bit here.

I'm cooking porkchops using a recipe you posted here a long time ago that you said you had not tried. It's so simple and Bob likes it a lot, so it shows up on our table regularly.

We had left over smoked pork loin in sandwiches, jo jo potatoes, cole slaw and left over sauerkraut. YUM!

Thank you Dean & Sandy. It's the first loin I've smoked, and Dean did one when we were there in Sept. It was so good! What a great idea you gave me.

Here is the recipe. this is a heavier dense bread. We really like it and its so easy to make.

Gramma's Scotch Oatmeal Bread
1 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 cup oil
3-4 tablespoons molasses (I always add a little more)
1 cup boiling water
1 pkg yeast
1 cup warm (not hot) water
5 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs
In a large bowl, combine oatmeal, sugar, salt, oil,molasses and boiling water.
Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast into warm (not hot) water. Stir til dissolved. Add yeast mixture to lukewarm oatmeal mixture, add eggs. Add 3 cups flour, beat until smooth. Then gradually add remaining flour. Turn dough onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough into a greased bowl, brush top with soft shortening. Cover, let rise in warm place free from draft til doubled. Punch down, cover and let rest 15 minutes, shape into loaves. Place in a greased loaf pan, cover and let rise til doubled.
Bake @ 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes (takes 30 minutes in my oven)

I've had a pork roast in the crock pot all day...having bbqued pork sandwiches and cole slaw. So nice to have it all done when the kids leave!

Jody and I had steak. The possums had rotisserrie chicken and pears. ;)

I had chicken tortilla soup from el pollo loco.Delicious!!

We had smoked sausage, sauteed cabbage and apple galette (I finally got around to making it) with ice cream. I really wanted to head to Kentucky and have dinner with Kathy!

I had to pick up a requisition for xrays for my hand and didn't feel like cooking supper. So on the way home we stopped at a pita place and picked up Calgary's best EVER donairs and fries and a cream horn. And a can of pepsi. So much for my Weight Watchers this week. LOL

Connie, can you tell me how much yeast is in the package? I use bulk yeast, so I have no idea how much is in a package! It sounds really good. I'd like to try making it.

Tami I should know this because I've bought yeast in the jar and had to spoon it out, I had to look it up tho! LOL

Sounds like 2 1/4 teaspoons?
