How Are Things In Your Neck of The Woods?

Here in my woods, it is bright and sunny but a bit on the chilly side and it is not breezy out. I have spent the morning working on cleaning some of my pantry out, notice I said some, not all. Oldest daughter Cheryl stopped by and brought the Christmas stamps she said she would pick up for me and we sat awhile and just chatted. I have some baking to try and do this afternoon. No leftover Thanksgiving Day food here. My lunch was pancakes, with maple syrup, sliced grapefruit and a big mug of hot tea. If I have time, I want to do some sewing. Make a pillowcase for Alyssa's little pillow she carries around at times at home and lays on the floor with. I have a Christmas print with lots of puppies on it. So, that is pretty much the way things are here. How about in your neck of the woods?

Warmer...mid-70's with high clouds and ugly smog on the horizon. Today is small business Saturday where American Express gives you some credit if you use their card at participating retailers, so I'm taking some time away from Christmas decorating in a little while to run a few errands.

well, i did wake up to snow this morning, but then i guess there was some more rain, because there is no sign of snow. my big magnolia tree lost some branches and my gate trellis/arbor made it across the backyard and that was really fastened down (so i thought). all my winter sow containers were a mess. i have my work cut out for me tomorrow. my downspouts were backing up, so i had to make a new path for the water to flow. thank God the next door neighbors on that side are decent, because i had to let it flow down their driveway after cutting into the dirt. you never know from one day to the next with the weather anymore. i keep thinking that the veggie garden will go later and i'll be eating fresh tomatoes into october or november..pushing it at december, so that's a plus. march - in like a lion, out like a lamb april - april showers make may flowers may ???? scares me to think about it dicentra, i was to greensgrow last year. i love that it's in the heart of where you don't expect it and that they have so much to offer. by the way, where is your plant sale at the FCF? todd, hope you don't sustain too much damage. bob, you're doing pretty good if you only have 12 left to plant. didn't you order like 30 or something? stay dry everyone. maryanne

So, how is the economy in your neck of the woods?

Pretty sucky here. The auto industry is the main bread and butter around here, between Ford, GM, and Chryslers and all the feeder plants that go with them. Cut backs, plant closures, layoffs. We also have the casino but they aren't doing as well as expected, so layoffs there too. We have a lot of nurses that work over the border in the States, and many of them are feeling hard times because of the close exchange rates (good for shopping but at the same time like taking a pay cut for these people) and the high cost of gas, expounded by the long idling and wait times at the tunnel and bridge. The school boards here are talking about layoffs as well. Companies are closing all over (including the one that I was working for). We had a few tech call centers move in but the pay is dismal, the pace is impossible, and they expect you to sell service agreements and could care less if you resolve issues. As for housing, it is a buyers market here. Although, I am seeing more sold signs lately so maybe that is brisking up a bit - but I am seeing a LOT of reduced stickers on real estate signs.

((((Hugs and Love and real Christmas Joy from me to you)))) You're very wise to spend a happy Christmas in your home with your family instead of somewhere else with a drama-rama going on. I have a friend, with two children, that has been married for 29 years. They have never, ever, once had the Christmas holidays in their own home. It's always been pack up the kids, pack up the gifts, drive half-way across the country, spend exactly the same number of hours at first his "family" and then her "family" (and reverse the times and meals for the next year, AND keep a diary so you can prove that they didn't slight anyone) and then rush home to get back to work. Their kids are in college now, and don't have a single memory of their family having a Christmas in their home with their parents and tree of thier own. I don't understand it all. I'd rather be by myself, in a hotel room in a foreign country, than have to deal with my bickering, stressed, angry, hurtful, at-each-others' throats extended family. There are a few family members I'd love to share a holiday, any holiday, with, but they are few and far between and most of them are under the age of 10 or over 80. You hang in there. Tell the people you love that you love them and make happy holiday memories for you, your kids, and your home, and your hubby.

What Are The Price of Eggs in Your Neck of The Woods?

Marilyn Sue, I loved my chickens, and they were free range during the day and I closed them up during the night. One day I was going to the flea market and driving down I 10 and I passed a pitiful chicken sitting by the road in the middle of no where. I found a place to turn around and went back and got her. She was an old hen who had probably served out her usefulness as a layer and had fallen off a big truck going to a processing plant for cat food, in Alabama, I think. She was a white leghorn and she looked awful....had been de-beaked and she was so pale...comb was pink, not red. I took her home and took care of her. She actually laid a few more eggs. I didn't have a chicken house or pen, so every day, I staked her out by tying a string loosely to her leg. She adapted to it well and liked eating a little grass. I kept her until she died. Actually, I think a raccoon eventually got her, but at least her life was good for a while.

We're having a bright sunny day and a little break from this verrry cold November. More cold coming, but low temps often mean more sun. I'll take cold and sunny to overcast at any temp.

High clouds and temps in the high 60's; they will drop quite a bit on Tues, I hear. It's a spare-the-air day.

It started out cold and sunny but towards evening it kid of clouded up and warmed up too. I walked the Mall today and then also ran some errands. Didn't do much else except cook dinner. It was a quiet day. Next week I am booked solid all week with all kinds of activities. This was a nice break this week!

It was a lovely day here, went into the 50s. I've had to rest my body as all of the activity triggered some nerve pain in my neck and arm. I've done a lot of reading and kept Robert company while he watches his college football.

It's sunny and fairly warm here in CO Springs. I was out earlier with Bat on his leash to take out the trash and get the mail, wearing only a t shirt and wasn't cold at all.
