Comments (18)Bamboo! We spent 8 years fighting it at our last house. It would come up through the asphalt driveway, invade the gardens, and was threatening to come through the basement wall. We spent many years thinking unkind thoughts of whoever planted that monster. Once in a while someone would come by and ask for a cutting because they "wanted some bamboo for a quick screen". The answer was always NO!! We felt we had a moral responsibilty to refuse to give ANY to ANYONE for ANY purpose unless the bamboo was already cut and dried and going to be used for building something. We finally learned how to keep it under control through constant mowing, but of course we never got rid of it. Instead we moved. And guess what we found on a corner of our new property? Bamboo! And ailanthus trees, don't get me started on those.......See MoreWhat's blooming in my neck of the woods (picture extensive)
Comments (18)Thank you all so very much. :) This truly is my favorite time of the year. Ok, deadheading Teasing Georgia WILL be a chore, but it's be well worth it because she comes back super fast every time. Nikolai (the parrot) is like a puppy. I met him when he was 8 weeks old and not quite feathered yet. I visited him at the breeder 2-3 times a week, and he's been home with me for about 2 months now. He snuggles non stop, lays in my arm, cuddles under my chin, and is starting talk. He's lots of work, but worth every minute ;) Weather permitting I'll take some pictures of my roses in the front today. Again, thank you all very much. :) --- Wendy...See MoreWhat is Happening in Your Neck of the Woods?
Comments (20)In the PNW (CDN side) and it's been snowing since yesterday morning. I'm in the hills and the snow is sticking. It isn't sticking in the city and they are staying on top of it with plowing and salting/sanding as tomorrow is Monday and we don't do well in the snow at all. This is the second snowfall of the season. It seldom snows here but the ski hills are thrilled but the avalanche rating is quite high so the backcountry is closed. So I've been watching the Olympics (probably the only person though who didn't get up at 4 am to watch the hockey - which if you didn't know and want to know we won. - just saying) and watching the snow fall. I just went to pick up my son and his GF from the airport. They've been in Hawaii for the past week and yea, came home to snow. Did a bunch of laundry and made a new frittata recipe last night with shrimp and vegies....See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
