That one is definitely more rustic-looking. The views are just spectacular. I love how in the one I listed how you can see so many boats on the water from so many angles.

The first one is kind of ornate in places, but I would love that compound feel. The second is lovely as well. It sure would be fun to shop in those price brackets.

I really like the one gsciencechick posted best as, for the price, it has a beach! I don't think I could stand spending multi millions to live on the water and not have my own beach.

Speaking of living on the beach, if I ever win megamillions, you will find me in Manalapan FL...not so much for the homes, which run up much higher in cost than this one and get way too elaborate and way too mediterranean...but because of the location....beautiful sandy ocean beach on one side and the inland waterway on the other.

DH and I were walking the beach here in February on a Sunday afternoon...we walked probably an hour in each direction and for the entire walk, we saw only 3 other people. Amazing, especially when you consider the rest of the FL gold coast is nothing by high rise condos.

Bethpen, my dear friend is an agent with Kinlin Grover, so when you get that winning Powerball ticket, I'll give you her name.

She owns a small group of cottages in Chatham where I go in the fall. They share a private beach but it is on a pond rather than the bay or ocean. I love swimming in the fresh calm water there.

My dream of a beach house would not be the fancy new ones. I'd love a big old ramshackle place with creaky floors, furniture that has seen lots of sandy damp bathing suits and many bedrooms with beds to throw your duffel bag on before hitting the beach (which would be private - not giving up that). It would have to have a big porch and a screen door that slammed every time.

Remember the house in "On Golden Pond"? I loved that house. Funny thing is that it belonged to someone who lived near me. They retired to that house but sadly he died soon after.

So, that's my $10M dream.

ded, My husband's cousin and his cousins (on the other side) own two houses on Squam Lake (where On Golden Pond was filmed) that have been in their family for generations. We were driving around and went to check them out last year. They are every bit as rustic as the one in the movie. Apparently it takes an act of the family congress to change anything. The sad part is that the property taxes are so outrageous that the families may have to sell them as nobody really has the money to support them.

This house recently sold in my city. The asking price was $7,900,000. I don't know what it sold for, though. Riverfront property--you can easily get to the ocean if you have a boat.

The average price of a home in my area is somewhere between $350,000 and $450,000. It was quite a surprise to discover this little hidden gem.

Camlan, that is spectacular. If I lived there, I'd never have to leave because everything I'd want to do/have is right there. Love the wet bar on the other side of the kitchen. I don't think anyone would even get me out of the bathrooms in the main house, especially the one on slide #23.

There isn't really anything right at $8,000,000 in my part of town. There's plenty above and plenty below. I'd guess that there are 500 or so houses on the market or over $1,000,000.

Here are two very different houses. There's a high rise for 7,000,000 and a traditional house for just under $9,000,000.

This is an uptown condo for $2.5 million. It doesn't say this, but if you watch the Showtime series Homeland, I swear this is the penthouse where they were hiding out Brody's family. The series is filmed here.

Often when they post expensive homes, they are really not that impressive as what I see here either what people post as eye candy or even posters' homes. Just reading the other day that with it being a banking city, people are really just looking for a look and end up of sameness of what they "must" have. I've seen expensive houses on the Quail Hollow golf course that really weren't all that.

This one is $10 mil here in Austin. I have actually been in it many times since a friend of my daughter's live(d) there-she is in college now. The first time my daughter went there, she was so excited about the Chuck Close painting because he is her favorite artist!

Her parents divorced a few years ago, dad kept the house and mom moved to another home in the same neighborhood. I don't think the pics do it justice-the views are amazing, they own lots of acreage around it, very private. I never really liked the furniture, though. Anyway, the owner is Steven Dell (the famous eye surgeon and brother of Michael who founded Dell Computer). He is not a nice person, had multiple affairs during the marriage and never seemed very interested in his kids. Sad because they have four kids. I wonder if he'll ever really sell it.

The Three Rivers Farm that Camlan posted is in the town we live in. Amazing restoration done by the owner. I had heard when they purchased it they approached This Old House to be one of their subject houses. I think they would have needed two seasons to do such a large property!

I love the second Falmouth house-the one built in 1900. That is, for me, the perfect shore home. I am sure I must have a long-lost uncle with scads of money and no one to leave it to, so if you run into him, let him know I am here and miss him terribly.
