FREE accounting software

I have used QuickBooks Simple Start for several years to invoice my clients and track my business expenses. It was a 2005 version and wouldn't play nicely with Windows Vista, which is the OS on my two newest computers.

Long story short: you can get a FREE version of QuickBooks Simple Start 2008 at their web site. It is NOT a trial version that will expire, and they will even ship the CD (instead of downloading the software) with NO shipping charge! How cool is that!? Something absolutely FREE for a change!!!

If you're interested or want to read about the software, follow the link. In the top right corner there are buttons to DOWNLOAD or ORDER CD. I'm a happy camper...

Did you already have a software package you used, Susan? I am used to Quickbooks, as it is very easy for invoicing clients. It will do much more than I need it to - track inventory (I think?), generate financial reports, etc. But it is very user friendly and it's F-R-E-E!!!

I'll be so glad to get everything migrated over to my Vista PC. I spent the last two days recreating our church web site on my Vista machine with new software - now I just have my own two sites left to do. ARGH! I'm going to give my XP machine to my mom. Her PC is *crap* (WindowsME), her monitor is shot, and she loves playing cards!

Can't talk about Peach Tree but I know QuickBooks is a good overall accounting program. You can keep track of your customer base and your suppliers as well. I'm sure you are on the calendar year. Since it's so late in the year I would wait until Jan. to implement a new accounting system so your historical financial information is easily tracked. I've looked into several accounting programs and my vote is for QuickBooks. As a matter of fact, I'm am using a different program now but will be changing over to Quickbooks this January. You might want to go to quickbooks.intuit.com. They give you an inside look of the program. It might help you decide if it's a program that will fill your needs. I know a lot of businesses use it. Star Office 5.2 (the last free version) is still floating around out there. Search for it on google: +download +free +"Star office 5.2" Star office comes with a spreadsheet program, then you make categories for all your expenses, and track your budgeted amount for each category, vs the actual amount spent. Or get Open Office, always free. It also has a spreadsheet which is Excel compatible. Or look on Freezone Freeware. It has a section called "Suites" which is Word Processor, Spreadsheet and sometimes Database all in one. You can download the Freezone Freeware website at http://www.geocities.com/csroberts/index.html. MS Works also comes bundled with many new PCs and it also has a spreadsheet. I use MS Money, which also came free with my PC. You can flag categories as being tax deductible so at tax time, you print their "Tax report" which prints out all the tax deductible categories for you to transfer to your tax forms.

I've just started to use the IKEA planner which I think is easy to use. It doesn't have the most number of sizes but could be a good starting point.

Wow! 2.5G of space needed? Unbelievable. I don't want anything that takes up that much room, but I agree, it's a good deal if you have the room to spare.

I'm glad some of you are getting it. I nearly croaked when I saw that they didn't even charge shipping!! What is this world coming to when you can get something that really IS free!?

I got the CD too. My best friends hubby works for them as a systems analyst. Gets to travel alllll over the country. Lucky duck !!
