best FREE home budget software??

I'm interested in starting a home budget and wondered if anyone here uses home budget programs and which are best and even more important which are free. Thanks

Star Office 5.2 (the last free version) is still floating around out there. Search for it on google: +download +free +"Star office 5.2"

Star office comes with a spreadsheet program, then you make categories for all your expenses, and track your budgeted amount for each category, vs the actual amount spent.

Or get Open Office, always free. It also has a spreadsheet which is Excel compatible.

Or look on Freezone Freeware. It has a section called "Suites" which is Word Processor, Spreadsheet and sometimes Database all in one. You can download the Freezone Freeware website at http://www.geocities.com/csroberts/index.html.

MS Works also comes bundled with many new PCs and it also has a spreadsheet.

I use MS Money, which also came free with my PC. You can flag categories as being tax deductible so at tax time, you print their "Tax report" which prints out all the tax deductible categories for you to transfer to your tax forms.

If you use gmail, you can use google documents. Online spreadsheet, online words, online presentation, online form generator, you name it. It is also stored online, if you are averse to having that info in the universe, you might not want to use it. But it is a good resource to know about.

Thanks, Cyn. I'll try that. I have a couple days left on my trial. Re Google Sketchup: I've just begun using it. There are some appliances and such like available. You can also pull them out of other kitchens people have uploaded. Not 100% conventient but not dire either. Also, it's really easy to make something that's pretty much box shaped. Here's a picture of my first model, of the 30" Sharp Microwave Drawer. First I saved the image from the web and cropped it to just the drawer using PaintShopPro (any image software will work). Then I drew a box the right size in sketchup, using lines and the Entity Info tool to get the size right. I'm still learning and I accidentally cut the back open, but that doesn't really matter. Last step, import the picture as a texture and fit it to the face of the box. It doesn't have the slight protrusion of the handle, but then even though I'm doing this to scale, it's not plan perfect, so it doesn't matter. The strengths of this program, once one really absorbs how to make boxes, make up for it. I have used Chief Architect for years but it is very pricy. A few years ago I switched to a MAC and was running Chief Arc through a partition (since I didn't want to pay for the MAC version) It became so cumbersome, I decided to look for a less expensive option. I found they make a "home" version for around $100: Home Designer Suite. It's very intuitive and MUCH easier to use than something like AutoCad. It automatically projects walls into 3D and you'll be able to use it for schematic designs and space planning in no time. Roofs, multiple floor plans, materials lists...they would all take a little longer to learn, but the information is out there. I also use Google Sketch-up (a free program) but it takes much longer to master (in my opinion!} Good Luck!

Need an advice with free online software for tile amount estimation

sasharovnyak: You have to estimate for waste with tile. This could be affected by the pattern chosen to lay it. I do tile repair and the folks who didn't keep or plan for extra are very sorry. Even if you find the same tile years later, it isn't the same run. You want a few left over at completion.

I like Mint.com you input all your accounts and it learns the transactions, you can set up budgets, goals and it will alert you when you are over budget etc. It has an iphone app, too.
