My son died on monday

I just am so terribly lost and feel so numb. This is my second child that I have lost in 7 years. Barry was 52 and my daughter was 43 in 2004 when she died. I just am lost.

Our son died last year when he was 52 also...it's been a year, and it doesn't seem to get better with time....I feel what you are going through...I'm so sorry :o(

Gloria, I am so sad to read this. I cannot even imagine your pain and heartbreak. I hope you have loved ones around to comfort you.

To all of you who have lost a child, I am so, so sorry for the hole in your heart. Of all my worries, the worst is that something would happen to one of my children.

Explain to him that the very, very best gardeners kill more plants than anyone else. It's because the experts are always experimenting and trying new things. So he's on his way to becoming an expert! If you learn from your mistakes, then they are not mistakes. It's only a mistake if you don't learn. Gardening is all about experimenting. I hope he continues to garden. In 20 years the tomato plant will be something you can laugh about together, over a plate of the fabulous vegetables he has grown. :^)

So soory to hear of your loss. I too lost my only son on Sept. 27 2004, it is something we never get over just learn to live with it every day. He left behind 2 beautiful boys and they are my link to him. Now Christmas is upon us and we all have to get though it. Thankfully i have 2 wonderful daughters who will be with us for the holidays. This is only suppose to happen to someone else not us.my brother lost his daughter 11 years ago and it was terrible now we must go through it too. I hope you have a nice hoilday,nothing is the same but you get though each day one minute at a time. My sister gave me a little verse in a photo frame it reads Sometimes when one person is missing,the whole world seems depopulated. I thought it was so fitting for some days. But you do have your grandson like me and they do bring back some joy in our lives. Take care and come here often everyone is super great and are very helpful. darlene

I am so sorry for your losses. I had a similar situation, but mine was my mother and brother. My mom had a heart attack and while she was in the hospital she also suffered a stroke. We had all of our attention on helping her get better and my 47 year old brother had a heart attack and died. On the day we were having his viewing they decided to send my mom home from the hospital. We were all in shock over her sickness, his death, and then we had to get her home and settled. My brother wasnÂt married, and he lived with my mom. I have 6 other brothers and 5 sisters all scrambling around to get things settled and get to the viewing, so some of us were there at different times, and not all of us at the same time, which probably seemed strange to friends and family that werenÂt aware of the situation. Anyway what IÂm trying to get at is we didnÂt feel we gave him proper attention during his death, so when the 6 month mark came, my mom was doing much better, and we were still in numbness and grieving, we decided to have a celebration of his life. We got the activity center at our church, invited friends and family to celebrate with us. We asked that each person write down a memory they had of my brother, and if they had any pictures to attach them to the memories, and we made them into a scrap book. It wasnÂt anything formal, just friends and family and memories. We were able to laugh and cry together and give our undivided attention to his memory. So I think maybe you could do that for your son, and get some closure to your feelings of not giving him your full attention. By the way, I think you gave all you could give considering the circumstances. Again, I am sorry for you losses!

My GD got Kawasaki disease at the age of four, and it was from reading up on the disease that I saw the story of the Travolta's son and learned that one of the causes can be a chemical in carpet cleaners. I think that is how my grand-daughter got it, because they had moved into their apartment about a month before she showed symptoms. And usually the last thing apt. management does in prepping an apartment for new occupants is clean the carpet. If she got on the floor and played on still-damp carpet (and where else would a 4-yr-old play in an empty room), you can see how this can happen. Please never let your children in a room where the carpet has just been cleaned. It should be thoroughly dry, I'd even wait several days.

It takes time to get through the shock, pain and grief, but I know your son would always want the best for you, happiness, peace of mind...

There's a light at the end of this tunnel, even though it seems so far away today.

Dear Gloria,

I am so very sorry for you loss and pain.

I don't have children, but I've witnessed the unbearable devastation a child's loss can have on the mother. My cousin, who died yesterday, lost a young baby to a heart defect. An aunt lost one of her month-old twins to SIDS. Another aunt lost a grown son to alcholism and a daughter to suicide.

Their grief, which is unending, must be what is shared with you.

I am so sorry.

I hope you can do what I am trying to doing. Breathe in; breathe out; do the 'living' things you must, and then simply focus on the love you have for your children and the love they would want you to feel from others.

Again, I am so sorry you are forced to walk this sorrowful path. I hope there is someone close by that can hold your hand, cry with you, listen to you.

I am praying for you.

Dear Gloria,

My young 'uns are around 50, and both are hale and hearty, so I have no idea of the hurt and pain that are wringing out your heart just now.

I hope that you have some other loved ones around who can help you navigate your way through this heartache.

Perhaps some of them or some other friends have been through such a painful valley in recent times, who would be pleased to hear your story and help you through it, as well.

If you have a religious connection, many of the leaders there are sensitive, perceptive people who can listen to your hurt, and help you find your way through it, as well. It is important, I think, to connect with someone who is empathetic, who will listen as you share your hurt and not be ready to offer ready-made answers/remedies/solutions early on in the situation.

You've been around here for a while and no doubt have learned of how concerned, empathetic and helpful many of the members here can be ... and as you have learned for yourself as you see so many who have responded to this post with concern and affection.

May you find a measure of peace in your heart, in the days ahead, as you condsider the light and joy which your young ones brought to your life, through the years. And if there were unresolved issues between you as their lives in this dimension of being came to a close, I hope that you can find it in your heart to let them float away like a little paper boat on the river of life.

Gloria, there aren't too many words of comfort tht we can give you at this time. It seems to be too soon for you to know that he is still going on and in a new adventure and will never forget you. All that love you gave him ishelping him right now to make the tranistion to this new experience.
I lost my youngest in 2000 (at 39) far away in Hawaii. I remember his last phone call the Friday before and "I love you Mom" Also his giganic bear hug.

Your son is always with you in your heart and you will pull thru.

I'm so sorry, Gloria. Losing someone you love so much is especially hard this time of year. We lost DH's son in October 2007 and the holidays will never be the same again. Big hugs to you and you have been in my prayers. One day at a time, hon.

Of course you are lost and feelings are all over the place.

Gloria I am so sorry for your loss. It couldn't have come at a worst time around the holidays. Not that there ever is a good time to lose a loved one.
