Ouch!! I've never broken a toe, so can't offer you any advice. But I hope that your fracture heals quickly and that very soon you can walk without the cumbersome boot.

I have had several broken toes, never used a boot for them. Just taped the broken one to the next one. Only had a boot for broken feet.

I've broken toes twice. It takes up to 6 weeks for healing. Who gave you the boot? I always wore a sock or whatever sandal I could tolerate. I wore one shoe and a big thick sock on the hurt foot to work.

My friend broke her toe recent recently. The doctor taped the toe, not TO the neighboring toes, but just to stabilize it. Not sure how taking off the tape will feel! Maybe not good.

I caught my toe on the leg of the kitchen chair once. It took weeks and weeks for it to quit hurting.

Didn't go to the doctor and didn't tape it. I think it was about 4 months of pain. Maybe longer. It was my "and this little piggy had none" toe.

Broken a couple toes doctor put splint on toe one time, the other taped the broken toe to the one beside it to stabilize it. Many weeks to heal.
Mom broke her pinky toe so many times it had to stay taped to the next toe all the time.
Never had a boot, but my primary doctor broke her toe and she was put in a boot for hers.
It hurts a long time.

Such a nusiance to have. Grumble, moan, avoid football, and have some Tequila.

I broke several toes Jan. 2011. My ;eft big toe is broken vertically, from foot to tip of toe so that a keeps hurting if I put weight on it. The second toe is bent to the left which makes the remaining 3 toes hurt. Because of my age and diabetes my doctor didn't want me to have surgery so it has hurt a lot. I recently tried Blue Emu and it has been amazing! The throbbing , stabbing pain has stopped and I have been able to walk on it again! After a few days I don't even have to apply it again for a few days. I am beyond thrilled! My right forefinger has been bent for years and I can't make a fist but using the Blue Emu It straightens out in a few minutes and stops hurting.

Good luck with your broken toe. I did have a cast from toes to knee because the first metarsel foot bone was also broken.

I have had numerous broken toes.... NEVER ever had a boot, just tape.
So I could not say how long until you take the boot off.

A wild pitch hit DS directly on the end of a big toe this spring at one of DGS's Little League games. He was wearing sandals. It was two months before he stopped hobbling. I know it was painful for a long time because he has a very high pain tolerance.

When DH was a child, his father swore by Sloan's Liniment as the cure for *everything*. DH says it really *burned*.

I've decided to go around the house barefoot which I do anyway, and use the boot for shopping and errands. I have Blue Emu and thanks for the tip-I slathered it all over the painful area. From the boot my big toe joint hurts horribly, and is stiff and swollen. The foot needs to flex naturally. Had my foot checked at the doctor and she says the toe's alignment is back. So if I walk carefully (barefoot) and not use the toes then I'll bet I'll feel better faster. Thanks to everyone for your kind words.

I broke both of my little toes twice I think. I just taped them together and I think it took almost a month to get back to somewhat normal and a few weeks for the swelling to go down.
You just have to find a shoe that will fit till it heals.

I also remember living in Uggs for awhile each time. The only footwear that was comfortable!
