How sweet is that. Very cute and touching. I have a granddaughter about that age and it is touching how much she loves her parents.

The baby is too young to understand either the words or the sentiment of the song. If indeed the crying is from an emotional reaction, why would a parent deliberately do something that triggers that? And having seen it happen once, shouldn't a normal parent want to avoid having it happen again?

The poor baby was confused. It was not yet equipped with sufficient vocabulary to understand what was going on, and yet, it could discern stress in mother's voice, or was it? Was it being scolded? Poor thing did not know, but felt something was amiss. Was mother in distress? The baby did feel ok about the softer passages; It was trying to read mother's emotion. The little fellow teared up and thankfully, mother stopped and gave soothing sounds to the child.

This was a study in how not to use a baby.

I agree it was not touching. She sang so loud and her voice was so harsh. I think the baby was afraid. When I sang to my babies I held them and crooned to them.

I saw this on FB this morning and I agree the baby was confused to the point of tears. He sure was a cutie;)

There is no way I could sit there and sing when it was causing him to tear up like that....how sad.

I certainly would cry too if I were that baby. What a cruel mother to keep on singing when the kid was distressed. Watching The Voice tonight, I started to hum an old song I recognized, and the cat that was on my lap, turned around and stared at me. I shut up.

Although I might agree the baby did not understand the words or meaning to the song and the Mother's voice was not that great and a little screechy....I don't really think that baby was sad at all. She seemed to have intermittent smiles and tears to me. Confused maybe, but we also do not know what she was looking at besides hearing. A frightened or totally annoyed baby would bawl in my opinion, not just tears.

My take is a little different as well. I found it curious that the baby was mostly producing tears, and very little sound--most unusual. He didn't seem to be in particular distress and I think it's too difficult to say what he might have been feeling as we didn't see his mother's face. Wow, I didn't think her voice was so bad! I also wonder how far from him she was standing. All that being said, I'm such a sucker that I cannot stand to see a baby cry, for any reason.

What kind of mother continues to sing and upset a little baby like that just for her few minutes of whatever. Lets hope she stops doing it.She is a lovely little baby and deserves more compassion.

Thank you Sjerin. Those were my thoughts exactly, that a child of that age would be screaming, not just tearful, if he were really unhappy. It seemed to me, as unlikely as it might be, that the baby, tho so young, was just overcome with emotion, as an adult would be. Just struck me as touching.

I can't watch videos due to being on dial up and takes forever to load so don't know what I missed.

Do remember when my now 45 year old son was about 18 months or so I had him on my lap and started to sing to him and his reaction....'don't sing, makes me sick' lol
I stopped singing and remind him to this day about that and every now and then threaten to sing to him.

If you watch closely - the little girl starts to smile when the Mom pauses, and the tearyness starts again when she start to sing.

I think the Mom has a nice voice, it is just a little distressing to the little girl. She does hear the tone of her Mom's voice and it does make her sad.

I can call my dog a "bad girl" in a "good girl" voice and she wags her tail like mad.... I call her "good girl" in that "bad girl" voice and she tucks her tail. It's all about the tone you are using! .... not that dogs and babies are the same, just the simple principle of it.

The little one is absolutely adorable though!

I saw the video. I think the baby did understand many of the words....understanding comes long before speech. The baby smiled a lot too and I thought it was touching.

I love anything to do with dogs and babies and I loved this video....must be something wrong with me. I didn't take it that the baby was in distress, just tearing up like one would when one gets emotional during a movie whether happy or sad. It's not like the baby was screaming. I was rather shocked at everyones reaction. To me, the baby was going through different ranges of emotion. Didn't strike me that said baby was suffering great emotional distress. Cute, cute, cute.
