Boys are having soft tacos..
There are brats on the grill for the hubbyd whomever else wants one.

Took a chance and drove over to deli hoping they had starting making chili.

Yep, today was the day.

I had a cup of chili and a grilled rye cheese sandwich!

Sorry Moni! We must have replied at the same time. Pronounced: Roo (like in rooster) la (like in singing la la la LA) den (like at the end of garden) The next Ethnic (LOL) thing I want to try is Pasties from the U.P. of Michigan. First I need to learn to pronounce that RIGHT! There was a article in our newspaper about them, and I saved it. That is a future adventure.

I make soups or stews and freeze them. In the morning, I pop the frozen square (if I've forgotten to thaw it) into a pot or the microwave and warm it up. Add noodles if needed, put into preheated thermos and we're good to go. My teens like it. I pack a tuna noodle salad about every other week. I will sometimes use canned salmon instead, but they prefer the tuna. Some days, my husband will make a frozen pizza early in the morning, let it cool and the kids take slices of that to eat cold. They really love that. They get hot lunch at school once a week, on "Chef Day", when there's something really good that they want. Once in awhile I still buy lunchmeat and let them make a few sandwiches with it, but it's not very often. We can't send PB&J with my daughter because there are several kids at her school with severe nut allergies and she worries about causing a problem for them. Carrots are the usual veg of choice for the lunchboxes, and they prefer to have a fruit snack when they get home so I have stopped trying to get them to pack fruit in their lunches. I am less strict about lunches than I am about breakfast and dinner, the goal is to get something fairly healthy that they will actually eat and enjoy into the lunchbox. Gloved and gowned, I once dug through the luncheon garbage from grades 1-5, looking for a lost retainer. I was horrified at the number of whole apples and bananas thrown away, and the number of lunches that were not even opened. Bag after bag lunch, obviously lovingly packed, some with cheery notes or hearts on them! Baggies with whole sandwiches, or whole bags of vegetables or fruits. I felt so bad for those moms, and for the teachers who had to deal with hungry, crabby kids for the afternoon. And irritated with the unknown kids, who were wasting so much nutritious food when so many children in the world go hungry every day. It was disgusting. Kath, there is also a VERSALES in Indiana not too far across the border from you. If Lauren likes tomato basil soup you might try the V-8 brand from the grocery. It comes in a box and is thick and delicious. I also use it for sauce when I make porcupines. Good stuff!! Everybody's dinner sounds so good! How did your peppers turn out, Ron? They sounded really good to me since I put green peppers in my baked beans anyway. Nodakgal, I haven't mashed potatoes since I discovered those Country Crocks. I sure couldn't tell they weren't homemade. I'll have to pull this post up on days I just don't know what the heck to make. We like breakfast for dinner, too. But I'll just let Harry scroll down and pick a meal :-)

Monica, pot pie is very time consuming--at least it is for me. I buy mine already made :0 I'm sure yours is better. Wow Shirley, I wish that green bean fairy would come to my house. Your dinner brings back memories of my childhood and that's a good thing. Azzalea, that sounds so good. "We" decided to order a pizza instead. Haven't had it for a while and it sounds pretty good. Especially the part where I don't have to cook. We're getting the ham, pineapple and bacon on thin crust from Pizza Hut--delivered! :-)

Another big bowl of the minestrone I made yesterday. I added a dollop of basil pesto...lovely! For dessert I'll have a 3-2-1 cake in a mug with fresh fruit. I bought DH a piece of chocolate ganache tart at La Boulangerie.

We made a big salad with all kinds of yummy ingredients...mesclun greens, cuke, raw zucchini, julienne carrots and jicama, avocado, tomato, grilled shrimp, and a honey-lime dressing.

I wish that I had had some mango to add to it.

Pork chops......I breaded mine and hubby wanted his non-breaded, with lots of spices.

Cooked a sweet potato with white potatoes, and cauliflower. It was awesome.

Chicken chile verde, rice and pinto beans left over from last night. It was even better tonight.
I made the verde sauce using tomatillos, jalapenos and cilantro I grew this summer.

Baked ham and cheese (Havarti) with mustard sauce on small rolls. Fried potatoes with green beans, cottage cheese.

I made a crockpot pot roast. With the potatoes and carrots cooked outside. The roast was big and not enough room in the pot, plus I don't like the way potatoes and carrots cook up in the crockpot...either mushy or still hard.

Served up with buttered noodles, it was good but not as good as it smelled cooking. I will have to tweak it some next time.

Enough for another meal.
Tuesday is my graveyard shift so we don't eat together and Wed is son's birthday so taking him out.... won't be cooking again till Thursday or Friday! hahahahah

I love pot roast..but once I started roasting in the oven ...I love it more..the crock pot makes the roast soft..
I like a bit a chew to my beef.

Ham and Havarti...yummm...Havarti.... It's so buttery and creamy.

A piece of fried chicken and a glass of milk on the way out the door to my son's costume birthday party. I hope we have real food tonight. Ugh to all that junk!
