I need to rant!

I am so ticked! DH and I have been saying we need to get our flu shots. Yesterday there was a big front page write up in the local paper about the importance of getting them and that the local health clinic is giving them on Mon,Tues and Wed. So,last night we decided to go this afternoon. Now mind you,it takes a little preparation for me to get ready to go anywhere and about the only place I do go is to the grocery store or Wal-Mart or out to eat occasionally. We get ready,drive into town and when we get there DH realizes he forgot to put my walker in the back of the truck. Not a really big thing since the door to the Health Clinic is just a few steps away from where we parked and I can hang onto him for that short distance. So we get to the door and there's the sign,"Due to nurse's absence,no flu shots given today! We will be giving them again Nov.3rd.,4th. and 5th." Now,with the big write up in the paper,why didn't they make that announcement in the write up? Not a really big deal but still,I got all spiffied up for nothing! LOL So I say to DH,"Well,is there something else we can do or someone we can visit since we are out anyway? He says,"I guess we can go to the Truck Stop and see if they got in any more racing jackets. "OOOOK,whatever! I'm not crazy about the Truck Stop but they do have some interesting stuff occasionally and I like to browse,but guess what? I can't go in because I don't have my walker,so I sit in the truck while DH checks out the racing jackets,and probably the CB radios and Scanners,none of which he can afford to buy right now! LOL We leave there and drive down the road a short way to the local "Tractor Supply". Another place where I enjoy prowling around in on occasion and this is a new one here and I've not been there yet,but remember,no walker. He says,"You wanna go in?" I say,"Yeah,right! You carrying me?" LOL If there had been a wheel chair in there I would have made him push me all over that store,but with my luck he would have gotten distracted looking at something and left me sitting there! LOL So I sit in the truck another 20 minutes and out he comes with a catalog,(just like the 3 I threw in the trash a few days ago LOL).He has this page marked with a gas tank for the back of the truck. Why do we need another gas tank for the truck when we can't even afford to fill up the one that is on it and what's the purpose of an extra gas tank anyway? Just stop at a station when you run out of gas! LOL

On the way home he says,"What's wrong with you?" "Nothing dear,absolutely nothing!" LOL MEN!!

OK,I confess,I will never feel guilty again about staying in Wal-Mart for an hour (or 2) while DH waits in the truck!

maybe for christmas the family could spring for another walker for the car...that way you're not stuck sitting in the car!

were you able to enjoy fall color, at least?

I have another one but we have a crew cab pickup and there are usually 3 people in the back so there's really not a place to leave one in the truck.He never forgets to put it in! I use it to get down the ramp then he picks it up and puts it in the back of the truck.Don't know what happened today.I think he just had a lot on his mind,plus he hasn't been feeling well for the last couple of weeks.
Not many fall colors out here in barren W TX!LOL There were a few trees along the interstate and I did notice how many different ones there were and the different colors they were turning so I guess the afternoon wasn't a total loss.LOL

Thanks everybody! I meant to start answering you guys on Saturday, but got way-layed; then Sunday spent the day trying to finish up some more of the photo-tweaking and that took ALL day. Then, it had let up raining a bit, so I went out and took more pics of what still looked decent. That added over 100 more to be tweaked. Geez. I'm kinda glad it rained all day today so I couldn't get out to take pics today!! LOL Carol, you are so right about us needing summer. We need that sunlight to get out of the winter funk! I do take Vitamin D plus lots of other supplements. As far as a bush shot of NIGHT OWL goes... unfortunately there's not a whole lot to see! It's a whimpy twiggy thing that only puts out a bloom every so often, and certainly isn't much of a climber. I think mine is barely 3ft tall after 3yrs. Jackie, I can understand rain into June, but freezing cold temps is just too weird. Hmm... my VEILCHENBLAU doesn't look like it's going to do much. It had a handful of blooms awhile ago, but I think it's done. I never did get around to deadheading it or fertilizing it. Lyn, I know what you mean about those spring grasses and other weeds. I've been putting off doing several beds that are overgrown. But then with this weather, it's been really hard to even try to get to them! And you're right, the forecast looks good for the rest of this week... FINALLY!! Bustopher, my CHARLES AUSTIN doesn't repeat all that great. I may get two really good flushes. But the blooms are usually really pretty and a lot of them. Connie, sorry your roses were all crispy for your daughter's wedding. That must've been really disappointing. But at least you had the florist roses. I hope the wedding was wonderful! Kay, KUROSHINJU is a great rose. I got mine from Hortico many yrs ago, and I believe they may still offer it. It's always got gorgeous velvety dark black-red blooms on it. The plant averages about 3-4ft wide and 4-5ft tall. Ya know, I don't remember ever checking the scent on it. I'll have to try to remember to do so after the rain is done. Ingrid, this dog we got is turning out to be a royal pain in the butt. I had no hand in picking her this time. My husband and younger son picked her. I wanted to wait a bit, but they felt she was such a great dog, they didn't want to pass her up. She can be a very funny dog, but being a border collie mix, she's rather high maintenance. I just wanted a dog to keep the deer out of the yard. She's become more of a pain than the deer. I just came home to find a rug all shredded in the front walkway. I could care less about the rug, but she makes such a mess and digs up the gravel in the walkways. The people at the pound said she was about 1 1/2yr old, but my son thinks she was younger. I know it takes time for them to grow out of stuff like this. Maybe once the weather is better my husband will take her for walks and do some things with her. Right now it's just hard to do anything. She probably has cabin fever just like we do!! Seil, you're absolutely right. Everything just takes time. But sometimes I just get impatient. I'm getting too old for this crap!! LOL Kathy, no kidding about the dang fungus. Looking at the garden yesterday, I see more powdery mildew than I've seen since we moved here 11yrs ago. And I'll be danged if I didn't see some frickin' RUST on a few roses. I used to never get rust, except on the grassy weeds. Yuck... The new camera may have come with some Photoshop program, but I can't download it onto my computer due to having the Lenix program UBUNTU loaded instead. It uses other programs not made by Microsoft. The GIMP program is very much like Photoshop, but it's just slow. But, my son says it just could be my old computer. I have a Sony system that was waaaay superior to anything that came out at the time. It's now almost 9yrs old. I want to get a new computer, but just can't right now. Gotta finish paying off some home repairs and car tires, and the friggin' roses I bought this winter. Then, my husband wants to either fix his POC (piece of crap) old motorcycle, or get a new one. That's not cheap. And the younger son needs dental work and we don't have insurance for him.... it just goes on.... Thanks guys for the compliments and encouragement. Sorry that I didn't answer everyone individually. I'll try to post some more pics in the Gallery later on....

I still can't remember that woman's name but I guess it's not that important! it just bugs me though. ;) But this has been probably two years ago that I saw her stuff (probably longer than that, even) so I fear there's no chance of recalling the info! LOL I did get some books out of the library and so far am liking Sandra Betzina's "Fast Fit." I looked at another one of hers and she's pretty straightforward and easy to understand. another one I'm looking at is "The Easy Guide to Sewing Jackets" by Cecilia somebody and it's ok, pictures are good; but directions sometimes go over my head. I'm afraid in this case it's not going to take a whole lot to do that, LOL. She uses the pinfit method of pattern fitting instead of cutting out from muslin. I'm not sure it's any easier or less time-consuming than fitting it in muslin first. I also like Sandra Betzina's idea of making the dressmaker shell that the pattern companies put out. I was looking at Butterick's website and the new Connie Crawford "Ready to Wear sized patterns." I had to laugh - the measurement chart she provided sounded exactly like the pattern companies old ones! LOL That surely accomplishes a lot, doesn't it? *sigh* I'm certainly glad most ready to wear clothing doesn't fit this way, or we'd all have to go around naked! :O

lol, I ignored MIL's friend request. NO WAY!!! But, I was already FB friends with BIL & SIL because they have been on FB since I opened my account, MIL just opened hers. I'd hate to delete it because ONE person wants to write nasty things to me. I know this doesn't sound nasty to most people but the ONLY time she posts anything is to "confront" me about SD. When DH took SD shopping for school clothes (because I refused to take her), I commented something to him like "good luck shopping with a teen girl..lol" and SIL went off on me... even her son who's 15 had something to say.. as if I was writing nasty mean things about SD. Later on, they both said they felt they needed to "protect" SD and defend her. Um, mothers of teen girls write stuff like that all the time.. or worse. I am about to unfriend her. I just don't get why she doesn't unfriend me... obviously she doesn't like me & has nothing nice to say to me. I don't 'not like' her, I don't know her. I have felt sorry for her because of the way MIL talks about her... I know she took the brunt before I came along. It's more about THAT than it being posted on FB. I'm beginning to dread Christmas, which is probably what they want... so I don't go. I may just give them what they want & let DH go alone. My DIL expressed an interest in seeing DGS that day so I may offer to drive him so I have a good reason to not go with DH... I don't really feel I need a reason at all but at least DH can explain to his mom that I had to go instead of it looking like I just don't want to go see them... lol, which I really don't. Grrrr! It does make me angry that I am willing to suck it up & be nice for DH's sake. I ordered personalized gifts for them & was going to go & be gracious/cordial but now I don't know if I could muster a fake smile for that group. I'm pretty sure DH would understand if I don't want to go but they would give him a hard time... and I don't see him standing up to them. He might, but I doubt it. He wants everyone to just get along.

Glenda, you can tell him, "Yes, sir. She sure does bake it in an iron skillet." I tried a glass pan and the skillet and it was much crunchier and had more flavor in the skillet. It was my grandmother's and is seasoned so well. I try to take good care of it. Sue, grilled ham and cheese sounds really good. Did you have whipped cream/topping on your pie? My dad always poured sorghum on his pumpkin pie (which is about the same). I'm not a fan of sorghum, though. Are you? Jasdip, your post reminded me of our neighbor when we lived in the country. The little store in town would put meat on sale on Mondays. He called it "used meat". He had a NE (Massachusetts) accent, and it sounded so funny to us. And yes, I buy sale meat whenever I can find it. I think you'll love your experiment! Shirley, are you feeling better today? Your dinner sounds good for someone with a nasty cold. Hope you could taste it. Debn, how sweet of David. I don't know which would be worse--the headache or the psoriasis. I have it off and on. It seems to leave one part of my body only to appear someplace else. Other than being itchy, it doesn't bother me too much. I didn't know there were pills for it. Seems like the older I get, the more my body breaks out with one thing or another. What a PITA! Enjoy your chimis! Minnie, I sure hope some of that warm weather comes our way. It was so cold this morning!! Hope you enjoy whatever you decide on. Some nights eating just seems too much trouble, at least to me.

Hi lilliepad,

Take a book/comic when you figure that you (or a companion) may need to contemplate the dashboard for a while.

Or a puzzle book.

Some paper (with pen):
a) to do your planning for the next few days, or,
b) to start writing that wonderfully interesting story of your life ...

... or should that be a pencil, so you can edit more easily?

Alternatively ...

... you could write out your complaint(s) about insensitive spouses (or is that "spice"?). That's incorrect - most of us have only one spouse (well, one at a time anyway).

Write it 50? 20? times to relieve pressure (or just once ... to leave lying around the home, somewhere).

lilliepad, I feel your pain. I, too spent 35 minutes sitting in the van at Tractor Supply yesterday because my mode of transportation (a scooter) was left at home. We left the house to go have blood work done. The scooter was on charge in the garage. DH says, I can drop you off at the door at the lab, so I'll just leave the scooter here on charge. Well, on the way home, he decides to stop at Tractor Supply. I have to wait in the van. And after that he stops at Agway to get bird seed. I like to go in there too, but again, I wait in the van. Yep, I feel your pain...just want to strangle them sometimes. But it doesn't take me long to remember how lucky I am.

I'm sorry that you Ladies had to sit in the vehicle but heck that's not really a big deal .........I haven't been out of this house except to go to the doctor in two months...sitting in the truck watching the world go by might be fun.

Actually what I wanted to say is that you need to be the gentle reminder and remember to ask if he put it in. My husband usually has a lot on his mind too.

I don't use a walker any more; I only need a cane. I live alone, so when I go out, I go alone. There have been times when I forget my cane, which is okay if I'm going where there are shopping carts. I park next to a cart corral. For the doctor's office I need the cane; the obvious answer was a second cane, to leave in the car.

Gazania and Ruthie have the best advice: Be the
Gentle Reminder, and Consider how lucky you are.

At least you still have a DH to blame it on!

(Funny thing: Last night I dreamed I was somewhere in a wheelchair. Seemed like I was in a building where work was being done, but then I was outside admiring the beautiful green grass, but I was alone and had no way to get home!! )

The notice in the paper was written ahead of time. They wouldn't be able to know about the illness unless s/he said, "hey, I'm gonna be sick next week on ____, ____ and ____." There's a deadline for the paper and I imagine it was given to them ahead of that time. Frustrating, of course but they can't be blamed for it. With something like this, I've started calling to verify the event is on and see what kind of a lineup there is. I hate standing in line and now, physically, it's difficult for me to stand in line for extended periods.

Most of the stores of any size around here have the little electric carts to ride. They are nice. Sure helps me out. I've started using them. Some have regular wheelchairs too.

Somehow I missed something here though. After you used it to get down the ramp, where did it go?

Have you thought about one of the folding ones? They'll fold flat and take next to nothing for space. Could stand up next to the seat, go under the seat or in the back if needed for the room.

Hope you're feeling better. BTW, didn't you think about the usual line? When he asked what's wrong, I though there was a female gene that automatically replies Well if you don't know, I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU!!!

Sorry you went out for nothing. Too bad you didn't have your DH drop you off at a store where they have a scooter so at least you would have something to do while he went and looked at his stuff instead of sitting in the truck. I love to wander around stores even if I don't buy anything.

So sorry your day went badly and you didn't get your flu shot. My DH uses a walker, I'll be sure to keep it in the car whenever he wants to go somewhere. I have little patience for waiting in the car for someone. I always keep a couple of magazines or a library book in the car to amuse myself during any "down" time.

Please don't get me wrong,I love my DH and he takes really good care of me.LOL I don't mean to sound ungrateful and I know how lucky I am! I normally don't mind sitting in the car waiting for someone,and I really didn't mind it yesterday.I like to just watch people,but there weren't many going in and out of either place.LOL.Yesterday just started off on the wrong foot and I really would have liked to have gone in both places with him but neither one had a scooter or a wheel chair. Not getting the flu shot upset me more than anything else.LOL

Cynic-The sign on the door stated that the nurses were at the schools,so I assume they would have known a day or so ahead of time that they weren't going to be there.

Lilliepad, you had "one of those days." I can see why you'd need to vent a little. Don't feel guilty. Everyone else vents so you can too and don't feel guilty!!
