What's for dinner 10/8?

Guess you can say I've been doing my spring cleaning today. While the house is still in havoc after the painter I've been scrubbing. He did a great job the first day--second day--grrrr! We didn't watch him as much and we should have. So tonight it's fried egg sandwiches and some fruit. I'm too beat to think about cooking. Knees hurt from cleaning floors and back hurts from vacuuming with that big old sweeper.

Hope you're having something better than you'd get at our house!!

Good question! My son and daughter-in-law are coming for dinner at 6:30. I was making a favorite dish, Monastery style lentils, figuring we'd have that with a salad and popovers. But at 5:00 p.m. I remembered Monastery style lentils is definitely not a favorite of my son's. Oops! Quick change of direction. Now I'm making tofu and broccoli over spaghetti. No popovers. Date-Oatmeal bars for dessert.

I love the way you pipe in on everyone's dishes Patti!! Makes me laugh right out loud. Luckygardner, next time you have homemade fried halibut, give me a shout, please. You know I can be there in half an hour. I'll bring the coleslaw! We had roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, and I simmered green beans and onions, and cooked off the water then stirred in balsamic vinegar. DH hates green beans, but he loved them this way. So it's a keeper.

Shopped today with Amber. Stopped in at Goodwill and then on to Walmart, shopped there. Lunch was from Bob Evan's. A salad, chili (only ate part of it and brought the rest home) and iced tea. Then on to Meijer and got groceries and my flu shot. If you got your shot there you got a booklet with $80 worth of coupons. It was near 3:00 by the time we were ready to leave so I called home to see if the guys wanted something to eat. Ended up buying butter burgers, fries and shakes to take home, from Steak and Shake. I had iced tea and Amber just had a shake no burger dinner for her. We had coupons for there. So that was our supper. The men are now working on the 3rd tall retaining wall. At 8' by 8', the frame becomes less of a visibility issue give the expansiveness of the glass. At that size, most manufacturers are going to know where their windows/doors can live comfortably. I am not sure that you will find something with that minimalist frame that also meets the minimalist cost range. Here is an 8' by 8' sliding glass door in an Okna 8800 series slider frame. This SGD has what is considered a "French" rail on it so it runs on the thicker side of those that are out there.

Mike refuses to go to Golden Corral, he hates their food. Sorry you didn't have a good lunch Glenda.

Tonight we are having taco's and refried beans.

we had Greek Salad Pita Wraps (low fat recipe from Martha Stewart Living) and i also had my steamed artichoke ~ liz

I only go to GK when I can't think of any other place to go to, and today was that day :o(

i'm without my car until Tuesday or so, and haven't shopped for a while. I scrounged and came up with a pot of chicken wild rice soup....kinda. I roasted a couple chicken breasts, cooked up a package of chicken flavored long grain& wild rice mix. Used a package of country gravy mix and some chicken stock ice cubes. I put a handful of mixed vegetables to cook with the rice mixture and used some 1/2&1/2. It wasn't too bad. I also had some frozen rolls, which I thawed, let rise & baked. It seemed funny eating soup & warm rolls on a day when it is near 80* outside.

I fixed peppers, onions and sausage with a bit of tomato sauce ... and served it with a nice helping of home made garlic bread... It was very satisfying... Bob ate every bite..
