What's for dinner 4/8?

We did grocery shopping this afternoon so tonight it's a Boar's Head sub from Publix. It's turkey, bacon, provolone, lettuce and onion with some kind of BH sauce (mustard and mayo) on a multi-grain roll. Chips on the side.

Spending money wears me out! What are you having tonight?

I had lunch at Lincoln Square with Amber and of course Alyssa was there but slept though the meal. I had fried whitefish, green beans, side salad, a roll, iced tea unsweetened and mashed potatoes with white gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy I did not eat as they did not taste good. Not having a real supper tonight, I just drank a glass of V-8.

Liz, you must have a few days off. Chicken salad's on my list for this week, too. Almost too hot to eat so salads are nice. Wish we had a Trader Joe's, georgysmom. I don't think they there are any in Florida. What's Bourbon Street chicken? Sure sounds good. Jas, I almost bought rhubarb at the store today. I was thinking of a strawberry-rhubarb pie. Just thinkin's all I did, though. Well, shoot TTT. I thought tomorrow was pizza night. Looks like the rest of us missed out on your famous (?) pizza. The pork roast was just this side of icky. It was falling apart, but dry, dry, dry! I wish I was at Quilly's house. I love all those veggies, especially rutabaga. I like it roasted. Glenda, I want to hear what you're eating a week from now. Woohoo!

Last night my SIL called and said she made up 2 plates of food for my sister and I. Grilled trout stuffed with orange slices, side of mixed rice and steamed broccoli. LOL She knows I am tired of cooking. My niece Samantha stopped by today carrying in one plate of food. She said that when she came home from work and saw the plates of food thought her Mom had left them for Sam and her sister so she ate one of them. When Shelley saw that she had eaten the food she started to cry because she promised it to us. LOL She made Sam come over to tell us. LOLOL I get to eat the fish and my sister said she will have cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes and potato chips. I offered her half of the fish because I could have made her up the same plate of food because I had left over lemon chicken rice in the fridge and I would have steamed some more broccoli. So I get to eat all the fish. Yum Fresh sliced peaches and cream for dessert. Off to reheat the food. Anne

hahaha Patti! I am laughing at the "good cook". Sometimes NOT. I love to make this on the week-ends especially because I can lay down with a good book or take a nap and get up and supper is ready. 5 Hour Stew 1 lb (or close) stew meat 4 carrots-chunked ( I use a half bag of baby carrots) 4 or 5 potatoes (depending on size) quartered 1 large onion chunked celery 2 stalks-chunked 3 tablespoons small pearl tapioca 3 cups V-8 juice 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar 1/2 to a teaspoon beef bullion or soup base 1 envelope dry onion soup mix Put meat and vegetables in roaster, mix remaining ingredients, pour juice mixture over meat and vegetables. Seal pan tightly with foil, then cover tightly with roaster lid. Bake @ 250 degrees 5 hours.

Serve? Oh heck no! I absolutely detest people helping in my kitchen and Julia would be the sole exception. I wouldn't have time to serve her. She would be coming over during our growing season. I would spend my day driving hither and yon visiting local farms and getting the best fruits and vegetables. I would drive to one of the few old style butchers we have and maybe go out to the wharf for the fresh catch of the day. Julia and I would cook together. We would chat and laugh a lot and make a huge mess. Then we'd sit down on the patio to dine al fresco.

Home made tempura fried halibut and french fries. Also tempuraed some asparagus spears. Yum!

Celebration time: two friends and I went out to celebrate the sale of one friend's home last nite. Her husband died last year, and she is downsizing.

Stones Throw upscale restaurant.

I had a cup of chicken andouille sausage soup
spicy chicken sausage and olive flatbread

The other two had gourmet hickory grilled fish of the day

Then we three shared FABULOUS lava cake!

Oh, well...some eat interesting food and some (at my house) will have Costco chicken and salad and a piece of Costco rosemary bread & butter. lol

Luckygardner, next time you have homemade fried halibut, give me a shout, please. You know I can be there in half an hour.
I'll bring the coleslaw!

We had roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, and I simmered green beans and onions, and cooked off the water then stirred in balsamic vinegar. DH hates green beans, but he loved them this way. So it's a keeper.

I am not buying any more meat until our freezer is empty. So yesterday I took out a prime rib and it is cooking as I type.

With the prime rib we are having mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus.
