Yep, us, too. We keep getting the one about "your credit card". They never tell you which company they're with, etc. Twinkie got a little hostile with them the other night and they haven't called back, as of yet.

The Do Not Call list does keep them down but we still seem to get them too. Nowhere near as many as before though.

We have gotten so we don't answer any number we don't recognise. Most of the time that works, but every now and then someone calls and we know them just don't know the number! LOL

Why don't you check the do not call website, and see if you can find out what you do if you do get calls? I've had NONE since registering when the list first came out, and would be livid if someone was violating it and bothering me.

Although--remember, there are certain kinds of calls that are exempt. Charitable organizations can still call you. As can any company you've had any kind of contact with in the past (do NOT fill out those sweepstakes forms you see at county fairs, etc to win a vacuum, spa, etc--you're basically authorizing future phone contact).

I wonder, though, how the laws apply, if the person calling is sitting in a foreign country? Might make it harder for the authorities to prosecute if this kind of contact has been outsourced internationally.

Slimballs do not observe the do not call lists. That's why you get some of the calls. Some are exempt. Including places you have a relationship, meaning if you called an 800 number you agreed for them to call.

Sometimes you can tell them to put you on their DNC list. Sometimes all you can do is have fun with them and make them as miserable as you can. A few years ago telemarketers would let the slimeballs hang up on you if you stayed on the line and were talking so I had a great time with some of them... I didn't let them off the line and I would call them every name I could think of along with a few I couldn't think of but did myself proud. I made a game of trying to call them as many different names as I could think of without duplicating them. One time I cheated a bit, but not really. I figured if they can use a script, why shouldn't I? So I wrote down some prize winning phrases and names to call them and kept it handy. I had this one gal very upset with me. After about 10 minutes, she finally hung up on me. I had just got on a roll!

But, after being judicious on who gets my number, and using the DNC list and dealing with semi-reputable telemarketers along with the slimeballs, I don't get many calls.

We need to declare war on telemarketers. They are all scum of the earth slimeballs and need to be erradicated.

I very sternly tell them we're on the do-not-call list and to take our name off their call list.

cynic, please remember these people are just trying to earn a small amount of money and are doing what they are told-- save your wrath and name-calling for the Big Boss.

Being on that no call list, I get very few calls, except, right now, the political ones....We did get a call, I think from a solicitor and I quickly said, I'm on a no call list and the person, in a not very nice voice, said, we don't have to abide by that list! I, in my not very nice voice, said, well, in this house you do, and really banged the phone down..
Any more, with the caller ID, I check before answering....

We don't have much trouble after being sure that our home phone and both our cell phones are on the DNC list. But lately we've both been getting calls on our cells where there is just no one there, only dear air. Happening on the home phone too. Maybe the computer that places the calls finally recognizes the DNC number?

When I first got my cell phone, I got telemarketers. They are not supposed to call cells. I would just tell them this is cell phone and hang up. Don't get them anymore.

I keep getting one about my car warranty expiring, but that I shouldn't be alarmed!

Well, my car is 11 freaking years old, I don't think it's had a warranty in quite some time.

Anyway, I picked up the phone a few weeks ago when they were calling so I decided to have some fun.

Essentially, they were trying to sell me an over priced, non performing warranty...

Me. Oh hey, this is GREAT! I'd love a warranty on my car!

Him: Wonderful. I can send you...

Me. We CAN back date this so that it covers the blown head gasket, right? It's not too bad right now, but the oil and coolant are mixing, so I know it's not going to get any better.

Him. Uhm...

Me. And, do you think I could get it written to cover the hole in my windshield?

Him: A chip?

Me. No, a hole. My girlfriend got mad at me the other week and threw a chunk if pipe as I was driving away and it punched a hole through the windshield.

And now about the leaking exhaust system and the holes in the floor boards? I'm getting kind of dizzy when I have to drive more than 15 miles. It would be nice to get them taken care of for free...
