I use Microsoft Word to keep track of all my vegetable plantings. I copied and pasted these from word. In word I have them made up in a table so it is easier to use and read than it is here. I have two different ones made up. There are especially helpful when it comes to succession planting, to help determine how long till maturity and when to replant. When I start my seeds, and it seems like somethings should have sprouted already I just check back at how long it took to sprout in previous years and I know if something may be wrong.

PaulNS asked why walnuts. I can't answer for others, but I picked it because it is a nut tree that will grow in a wide range of temperate climates. Nuts provide a rich source of nutrients and when the tree stops bearing, you can use the excellent wood. Almonds, hazelnuts, and pecans are other possible trees, but without the broad range of adaptability. I actually like pecans better. Here is my reasoing for the other choices. beans - love them, and a good protein source, easy to store without modern technology squash - reasonably good keepers, lots of uses, nutritious seeds sweet potatoes - I like them better than white potatoes, which would be my second choice here amaranth - never even tasted it, but is it the most complete protein of any grain, easy to grow, and pretty, too. On a high elevation site, quinoa would be a good substitute oats - oatmeal, oat cakes cabbage - brassicas are all very nutritious; this one is easy to store or preserve (sauerkraut) carrots - tasty, easy to store onions - as with carrots, and what is food without onions? tomatoes - anyone who has ever tasted a garden grown tomato know why I picked this one sunflowers - nutritious, tasty seeds, easy to grow blueberries - delicious (my favorite berry), exceptionally rich in antioxidants walnuts - see above Rosefolly

A few weeks ago i joined weight watchers. They have boards on their site. I have to say that for the most part they are a group of foul mouth, ill mannered girls(mostly girls) that must live. It sickens me when they write things such as "I hate my nephew so much i would like to SPIT on him." The girl even said that he is only 7 and he is just annoying. But she would not stop talking about how badly she wants to spit on him. Most people who responded said they "know the feeling." They also all swear like a truckdriver. Some boards there are not bad. But beware before you enter. I like it here. So i think i'll stay!

peoniesandposies -- THANK YOU! I had about given up after so many years. It certainly was worthy of being on a lit list. Isn't is amazing how accurately Forster predicted things that are commonplace today? Now if they'll just get busy with that 'Transporter Room' from Star Trek... No more long flights.
