Came upon a 'fill in the blank' game on the blog of one of my favorite book stores, Beagle Books, in Park Rapids, MN. The store is going to pick the top ten answers and post them at the store. Here is the statement:

You know you should be in a book club when....

My contribution was: You know you should be in a book club when you ask perfect strangers, "Have you read (insert book title here) yet?"

Couldn't think of a better group of people to complete that statement than the members of Readers' Paradise Forum. How would you finish that sentence?

I love Beagle Books, too. Guess I would say "You know you should be in a book club when you want to slap someone who says they only read Danielle Steele." (This happened at the Park Rapids library sale......I really wanted to haul off and cuff her one....she looked so smug, as though that were a credit!

@phyllis mn - There is a lot to be gained from participating in a book club - reading a variety of authors is certainly one of them! Here is another way I might fill in the blank:
You know you should be in a book club when... everyone is raving about the book you just read, but you didn't understand a word of it!
You just might learn what you are missing by attending the discussion - this has certainly happened to me.

I was a total rink rat when I was a kid. I won my first transistor radio (first place ladies all ages) in a speed skating contest for the public. I think I must have been around 11. Because I won most of the races I had to start back at the wall instead of the starting line along with a couple of older girls that were in speed club. My older brother worked as a floor guard and in the summer I would go with him to open up and stay all day when I didn't have a competition. Sunday was club day and we had classes and practice. Then private lessons after school during the week. Friday nights there was a sock hop after the last session. So much fun and all the rink romances . LOL The manager's daughter and I were friends and we both got puppies at around the same time. We would bring them to the rink with us and they'd run around with us while we skated until the rink opened for the public.

I think the game is a great concept. When you pretend to BE the propagandist you learn how they operate and are able to spot false information when you see it. This reminds me of the advice to, "Follow the money," to trace motivation. When I apply the motivation test to the scams and lies sowing distrust between Americans, I arrive at two likely entities who benefit from the distraction and discord: China and Russia.

You know you should be in a book club when you are dying to tell someone about a book you have finished, but can't think of anyone except RP friends!

You know you should be in a book club when you find out 5 years after you've read the Harry Potter series (didn't see the movies) that you've been pronouncing Hermione's name wrong since book one!
