Glenda, I just love that bread. I finally found a recipe for date nut bread that is pretty close. It's especially good after a day or two.

The Vermont Country Store has a lot of things which may or may not be original, but it's very pricey. (But sometimes we just flat need a treat!)

My mother would buy me an Xmas flannel nightgown from VCS every year. She stopped doing that after I left for college, thank goodness!

Ahh!! Breck, Halo and Flex shampoos, brings back memories of my teenage years! What about "Gee, your hair smells Terrific? There was a shampoo & conditioner. Musk perfume and Love's Baby Soft? I think I have seen that somewhere. Has it been that long? Really? Seems like just yesterday!

About 15 plus years ago I bought a window-cleaning product that also claimed to have a UV block to help prevent fading of fabrics such as drapes, upholstery, carpet, etc. It did a great job on my windows, but more importantly I noticed that it DID take care of the sun-fading problems as claimed! I bought 6 bottles originally, but when I went to reorder, the company apparently had gone out of business.

Naturally I'm rationing my last bottle (about a third left), but I'd pay almost anything to be able to purchase that product again.

Simplification under the hood of an automobile. Electronic ignition is ok, but that'a enough.
How about an ammeter and oil pressure gauge on the dash.

Oh, yes! A&P's Spanish Bar Cake -- my dad loved that! (And for some reason, I think I've written that same thing in another post on this board in the not-so-distant past).

I didn't check where the other fans of this bar cake are from, but if you happen to have Sugarloaf Crafts Festivals in your area (along the East Coast), you should check out the website and see if Brumbaughs' Delites -- out of Pa. -- is on the vendor list. I picked up one of their Spanish Bars after talking with one of the owners -- I couldn't finish saying "I remember my dad buying this at ..." without her saying "A&P!" Too funny! The cake was good -- the coloring I remembered, the aroma and just a little taste sent me back to our old kitchen from my growing-up years (harvest gold!).

And while I was looking for their website (don't think they have one), I came across this old Garden Web posting about the cake. I don't recognize the posters' names -- they predate my joining this board -- but maybe you do...

Gallo hard salami. They quit making it a few years ago. I loved that stuff. I've seen it on the shelves again recently, but it doesn't have the same flavor.

Coincidentally, I called Almay just the other day to ask about a lipstick I loved for years. It was called 12. At some point the number names were discontinued, and although I hadn't thought about the lipstick in awhile it occurred to me that maybe they were selling the same shade under a different name. But the customer service rep told me Almay hasn't sold any lipstick in three years. Oops!

I am always late to the party, but does anyone remember liquid vanish toilet bowl cleaner? I used it to remove stains and hard water deposits from just about anything you can imagine. I used it it on a claw foot tub that was a mess in a friends rental, removed rust stains, calcium deposits, and all discolorations. Looked like brand new, have tried everything and anything . . . Nothing work!

After a long search, I found white cotton percale sheets at Lands End. I often take them off the bed, wash them and put them right back on. I bought 2sets of pillowcases, as I like ironed pillowcases, so I always have a set ready in the linen closer.

I don't know as I miss them but remember Duz laundry detergent that the "Golden Wheat" pattern plates and dishes came in and Breeze laundry detergent that had dish towels in them.

I think it's Kelloggs that put out a cereal called Corn Soya. It was very good, albeit a trifle expensive. DD, who will turn 65 in a couple of months, loved it, as a child.

Maxmom....Yes, Evening In Paris. I'm so glad your brain is working better than mine. LOL When I was a small child, my dad got me a bottle of it, which I took to the operating room with me when I was to have a hip surgery and told the nurse I wanted put to sleep with it instead of the ether. I dropped the bottle and naturally it broke. The operating room sure smelled good. LOL

I really, really miss Kraft garlic cheese spread in a tube. I didn't know how in the world I would ever make cheese grits again when the took it off the market. I still wish they'd put it back on. Grits just ain't the same without it!

Memories. As a teen I wore Tweed. Loved it. When I was older Love's Baby soft. My mother washed my hair with Halo when I was little. Jergens lotion would remind me of her as she always used it after doing the dishes.

My aunt gave me my first lipstick when I was about 12. I still have the tube. It's 'Pyxie Pink', in a white enamel tube with a pastel flower print, made by Milkmaid, Inc. (Patterson, NJ) I don't think there was much actual color to it, but it *smelled good*.

Maid_o_Cliff -- I've used dishwasher cleaner to get rid of a hard water 'ring' in a toilet. (Drain water from bowl; sprinkle on the cleaner; keep damp with wet paper toweling; flush.)

Something I don't miss, but do remember is Sen-Sen. (Did you ever taste THAT?) I think the slogan was, "Cover up your tell-tale breath with Sen-Sen." (Great, now you don't smell of tobacco, you stink from their product! Kind of a tip-off, eh?)

Here's what I miss - nice blankets with wide satin on the hems. I know they can still be found with a little online searching, but I never see them in the stores. It used to be all we ever had on the beds.

I have only ever found one lipstick color I liked. It was called Guava Stain. It came in a green tube. I can't remember who made it.

Just googled Guava Stain and they have it at Sephora. It's made by Clinique. Once the storm clears, I get some more. Yay.

Yes, it was a shortening made by Procter & Gamble. A "golden" yellow color, "short" shortening. You might recognize the guy doing the commercial for it

My MIL used a combination of lard and butter for her piecrusts. Even *I* could make a nice crust using her recipe.

Sylvia, I use the Mary Kay Strike a Pose Rose too and hate that they discontinued it. It's been 3 or 4 years since I saw any MK but they had a color that was extremely close with a different name. Sorry, don't remember what it was. I'm sure they still make that color under another name.
