Not much but ever so often I think of those probably very cheap iced cinnamon rolls that came 12 at a time on top of a corrugated paper. Having smelled cardamom I now think they had more of it than cinnamon. We had them for breakfast very occasionally.

I miss lightning bugs (aka fireflies) - they were magical. Haven't seen one in years. I also miss Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny...

The feeling of wonder at the world... the newness of each of your experiences. Everything from your first adventure off the block you were allowed to roam as a child, the first tree fort in the woods, your first job, your first purchase, your first car ... your first love.

But it is also true that our bodies are still genetically programmed to last about thirty something years. With 40 being oh-oh-oh-l-d.

This is why progress was slow for most of human history - until what was quite recently on the relative time scale the majority of people in charge were all young.

Picture the world being run by twenty somethings now.

I miss having more life ahead of than behind me.

I miss having a job that I showed up to every day. It made me feel needed.

For me, not anything that strikes me. If I could have my adult children with me but reset the clock on my own life expectancy to have more years remaining, that would be good. But not possible so I play the ball as it lies.

As far as parents and grandparents are concerned, they all were in my life and lived well into my adult years so I don't feel short-changed. Especially with my parents, they knew me and my kids well and they led happy lives - I felt like we had a good run together, no premature departures. I have good memories of all and that's enough.

I miss having endless free time to to whatever I pleased. Thats one thing about 2020-being home all the time, especially during lockdown-it was a little like reliving my youth. My oldest daughter was furloughed and spent a few days a week here. I would stay up with the girls (in their 20"s) watching trash TV well into the night. Once till 4 am LOL. Days and days to do whatever I felt like as soon as I was at home. I took up a routine of walking and swimming no matter what the pool temp. Although my husband kept working, he started working from home 2.3 days a week. Meal times became whenever we were ready for them. I still cooked healthy dinners but some were at 7-7:30 pm if we ate lunch later. Sleeping in was nice too, make up was optional, bra too,.I wish 2020 never happened of course, but it was a strange year where time kind of stopped.

Honestly, I miss being a kid.....a young kid about 7-10 years of age...life or at least what I remember, was so simple, easy and fun....I often comment that if only I could have known even a bit of what I know now, there is so much that I would have changed.

Then, I suppose the only other thing that I miss now are the years that I was raising my family-I was a young mother-I learned a lot-my kids lived with us until they were 20-21 years of age-I'd give darn near anything to go back to those days.

It seems to me that the Christmas period of time tends to bring all of that back for me each year.

I really miss a good night of sleep. I'm hoping to go there now...

I miss the magic of being a kid in our family. My older sister was the queen of goofy and with her creativity, we had so many fun family nights together. We’d end up doing some of the stupidest things. I miss the warmth and security we always had.

Carefree days, no pain. Jumping up from the floor so easily! I miss not having cramps in every part of my body.

I miss the early years when my kids were little. I miss my good young looks and thick long shiny hair. I miss all the family who has died.

Being able to have have a normal conversation with someone who wasn't looking at their phone. I just shake my head when I walk into a room and see people glued to their phones.

I miss the excitement of finding a quarter knowing I could get a Toasted Almond bar from the Good Humor Man.

I miss spending all day exploring the great outdoors when things were new to me. That and the genuine unconditional love I got from my family and friends that are no longer here.

I edited this to add the picture - I am on right, there is a black dachshund dog to the left of my brother. I had a wonderful childhood with many many good memories. It is 60 years later and and I still live where the picture was taken above!

I miss not having aching joints and being able to ride a horse all day if I wanted to.

I miss the excitement of tuning in to the college radio station to hear the latest songs. 1977 was a great year for new music.

I miss how so many things were new to me and so exciting. Also, of course, I miss my young body that healed overnight from just about anything!

I miss feeling safe, miss the energy I had back then, miss being able to walk and drive, miss my parents and my past furkids and the young years of my married life.

I miss not having the agile brain and eyes that I had when I was younger and I also miss a couple of elders who are no longer living. But on the whole, my present life is much more satisfying and rewarding than it was when I was a youngster.

I miss not having to lock your doors and close the windows when you leave the house. I miss the freedom for my grands to run the neighborhood or even their own yard playing without an adult constantly checking on them.

To explore the woods or running around with friends after dark on a warm summers nights catching lightning bugs.

I miss the carefree joy of spending days in imagination and exploration play with the neighborhood "posse".

Other than the family and other people I knew, I miss the slow passage of time. :)

I miss water skiing every day during the summer

I have enjoyed reading this thread but was not going to contribute because, well I am still young! I turn 36 on the 4th. And I miss nothing about being a child or teen under the roof and rules of my tediously strict Catholic parents, though I did have a happy childhood. I would not want to be subjected to such submission again. Bills and responsibilities and worries and all that other adult stuff is well worth it to me for guilt free independence.

But today, I unexpectedly had to stay over in the morning and work 4 extra hours, for a total of 16. Then I had to come back in at my normal time tonight for another 12 hour shift.

5 years ago I could have done this without a problem. I have worked 16 or 18 hours many times at this job in the past, and felt great when I came back the same night. I worked 12 hours, 7 days a week for 18 months straight when I was 19 and 20 at a pretty physical job with NO PROBLEM. Still found energy to go to the gym every morning at 7 am when we got off. Right now, I feel like I am 200 years old. I am tired, I feel nauseous, and my head hurts. I am CRABBY, which almost never happens. I miss not feeling this way when I do ANYTHING extra or out of the ordinary.

I hope my nightly 15000 step walk will help me feel better and NOT WORSE!

I got 3 hours sleep. When I wake up tommorow afternoon, after a full 8 hours, if I don't feel better, I will worry.

Please get a test right away, as those are common covid symptoms that usually show up first.

16 hour work day after 3 hours of sleep is most likely fatigue. Get some rest amylou321 . It takes me a couple of good nights rest to feel back to myself after lack of sleep and powering through just a regular day. But I am old enough to be your grandma.

Everything is not Covid 19. People still get colds, the flu and stomach upsets.

Yeah, I am here for the whole night anyway.. If I do not feel better when I wake up tommorow after my normal rest, ill get antsy about it. Right now,I am just crabby because I work with selfish lazy people who should either retire or go find some other job,as they are unable or unwilling to meet this jobs requirements. And when I get annoyed, I usually get a headache. And I ate a bunch of junk because I did not have time to cook real food so I feel like junk. And I just wanna go home and watch a Christmas movie until I go to sleep for 8 to 9 hours. But I can't. And I feel 200 years old.

I miss all my loved ones that have died. I lost my dad and best friend this year. I miss them both. I wish I had never done an ancestry DNA test. I found out some family secrets I wish I had never known.

My youth and an ignorant attitude that everything will turn out okay.

Amylou, I hope you are able to get some rest and feel better soon. Now that I'm following the Weight Watchers eating plan, I need to do a lot more cooking and food preparation than I did before. I find this annoying sometimes, although I have to admit that I feel better when I'm eating "real" food.

Speaking of Weight Watchers, regarding the topic, I miss how EASY it was to lose and maintain weight when I was a teen. All ya had to do was hold the mayo on a cheeseburger, and BOOM ,10 pounds gone. Now I walk past the condiment aisle and I gain a pound. :(

Amylou, I hope you are feeling much better today. Jemdandy, I too miss being optimistic about life in general. I used to think we'd achieve Star Trek level civilization as a matter of course, and regretted that I'd been born a mere hundred years too soon to see it. Can't say that now.

I'm with everyone. I can't think of anything different. The aches and pains every day, I now pretty much know how my life turned out, no the skies the limit for anything, no goals.

Amy, yes! When I was single, I lived a few blocks from the train. I would go to the gym, weight in and depending on that, I would get dinner accordingly. One low calorie dinner was all it took to get back on track.
