Yes, I am a first-time grandma of Baby Aaron born on September 1!!! It has been a long time coming, some troubles along the way, but I'm just walking on air now!
I know my DS/DIL would not want me to post a picture, so you'll just have to take my word for it--he's the most beautiful baby ever, ever born! LOL!

I have been waiting so long, I have knit/crocheted 6 baby blankets (not to mention 3 quilts, a sweater and two stuffed toys)!

I am so happy for my DS & DIL.

Congratulations. We have two darling grandsons. They are fun. And they remind you of all the work you took on rasing your own kids and you marvel that you actually managed to do it and survive! There's a good reason why the good Lord made new moms younger women!

Susan, I'm one of those who doesn't require a picture to believe your new grandson is beautiful! Congratulations! He's going to be soooo snuggly comfy in the blankies and sweaters you've made for him. In that picture they just look so SOFT.

I'm happy for you! I don't post photos of my adorable grandchildren, either, so I understand. The blankets are beautiful! I know he will look adorable all cuddled up in those soft blankets, especially if he is sitting on Grandma's lap. Enjoy every minute!

Awww...that's great! Mine ( a grandson) is due in about three weeks. Aren't little boys wonderful!?

I'd like you to refresh my memory about Grandma baby care please. Our DGS will be almost six when his sib is born in February. It's been almost 40 years since DS was born and we adopted him. (Feeling a mite elderly to do all the Grandma things!)

Congrats! Nothing more wonderful than a new baby. I remember you were one who helped me through my DIL's baby loss a couple years ago on the Grieving forum. Now they have a 14 month old baby boy. You will absolutely love being a nana, grannie, grandmom or whatever you will be called. It is the best!

Mboston...of course I remember! That was a terrible, sad time for both of us. Now they have a 14-month old baby boy! How thrilling! He must be a lot of fun. I'm very happy for you and your family.

Chisue--Oski is doing fine. Actually I took him for a walk today. He is a year old now and is giving up some of his puppy ways. He is very curious about the baby, but everyone is on alert to keep him from getting too close. He's such a funny little dog (willful and smart, too, as I'm sure Eliot is).

I held my grandson for the first time today and introduced myself. He did not seem to be impressed and didn't even open his eyes. :-) Later I helped my DIL change his diaper which made him really mad! He can cry! He's beautiful and it was a very special moment in my life today when I held him. My DS/DIL are working hard to "learn the ropes." These early days are not easy!

Do they have a Snuggie? I think that's what it is called. Anyway, there is a new&old theory that the first month is like a 4th trimester and that human babies are the only mammals born in less that a year of gestation. So with that in mind, you wrap the baby snuggly in the garment/blanket and it makes it feel like the womb. If the baby cries alot then you "sh,sh,sh" closely in his ear and bounce. You are basically mimicing the sounds and feel of the womb. Thing is its not a gentle motion or a quiet "sh". The book "The Happiest Baby on The Block" explains it all. DS and DIL used it when Asher got fussy and couldn't calm himself down. Only needed it a few times the first few weeks but I watched DS do it and it really worked! So IF they need it and don't have it, you might check out the book and video. Now they make the blanket type thing so that it velcros but you could use most any blanket if you fold it correctly.

Yes, they have the Snuggie, but it is too big, so they got the Velcro one which is more his size. But thank you for mentioning that because I know it is helpful. I might get that book for them; will check it out on Amazon. I didn't know about the sh-sh technique. He was mad when we changed his diaper because he slept really long and was very hungry. The diaper change would have been quicker but he gave himself a "rainshower" and so the snuggie and shirt had to be changed too. You know!!

It's impossible to slow a 14-month old boy! Gotta go...gotta grow! What a joy.

Such a wonderful, but *tiring* time. The new "Boss of the House" is so demanding! (He didn't open his eyes for you because he was so comfortable and happy, Socks!)

A dear friend called yesterday. She'd been doing Grandma Duty with her DD's first baby for two weeks. Her DD has half a dozen baby books, insists on using cloth diapers, had a bad on guests for a month, etc., etc. She is pumping because Baby can't 'latch on', despite visits to TWO lactation specialists. She and her DH insist on *waking the baby* (gasp) to feed it every two hours. (THIS grandma would be hard put to help out very long!)

Great news!!! Congratulations!! As the mother of two ( now teenage) boys, yes I think baby boys are wonderful! But I kinda think ALL babies are wonderful.
Your blankets are beautiful and look so soft.

P.S. What will little Aaron call you, when the time comes??

I am not allowed to feed my grandson anything unless checking it out with Momma first. Everything has to have her okay first - guess I am incompetent (spelling?) since I raised her husband so badly! (HA!)

Things are really different when you are the mother-in-law and not the mother!
