Jamie I can relate to your pain...I lost my youngest son 23 years ago in a boating accident...he was only 32 and was a young minister...today I was talking to my daughter and again the tears flowed...after he left I saw a sign at a church that said "Oh to wake up the dead...so much undone so much unsaid"...tears flow everytime I think of that....praying of you...Mary

You will have good days, bad days and neutral days. Today is a bad day for you and that's OK.

You will have more and more good days where you can talk about Rachel and smile then you will have a bad day when thinking about Rachel. Give yourself permission to cry, she is your baby.

It hasn't been that long since you lost her and there is no time line for grieving. Take it one day at a time.

I have lost a child and it is so difficult.....especially when it is so recent.
It does get easier but even now, after many years, once in a while, the pain hits me hard.
Fortunately it is rare and over time the raw feelings of having the huge hole in your heart lessens and happy memories are there instead.
Take your own time to grieve in your own way.....cry and scream and yell or whatever helps.

(((Jamie))) I do not know what it feels like to lose a child (have had a couple of scares) but I do know the agony of watching my parents cope after the death of my brother. It has been five years and although they (especially my father) do not talk with me often about my brother; I spoke with his older sister recently and she said every time she talks with him, he talks about my brother.

One of the most excellent pieces of information I ever heard was at a seminar on grief and grieving. The presenter had lost her husband and child in an auto accident and said, "Grief is crazy, the griever is not." Sometimes it is day-by-day; sometimes it is second-by-second. It took me two years to even think about breathing. We are here.

(((((Jamie))))) I'm so sorry you are hurting. I do know the pain, because we are not supposed to bury our children. I still ache for my son Brian who left us 2 years ago. I have to admit that I can go days with out crying, (but the ache is always there) then I hear a song or see something on TV that reminds me of him, and I am crying my heart out again. I am comforted by knowing I will see him again someday, and I believe he visits us here. Some strange things have happened to make me think that. Again, I'm so sorry for your pain.

Having lost my only child, I know what you are going through. Wade has been gone for over 4 years, and there are still some really bad days. But it does get easier with time. Like dotmom, I find great comfort in knowing that I will see him again someday. Hang in there, and know that you have friends here who understand and care. Hugs!

I hope the grieving will become a bit easier for you. I would be raging over the unfairness. I would want to believe there is a 'fix', if I could only find it! I would not be able to 'accept' so recent a loss.

As others have said, I can't imagine what it's like to lose a child, but my dear friend did - 40 years ago. She said that the deep grief eventually passes, but not a day goes by that she doesn't think about her little girl.

Jamie, the change of seasons was a particularly hard time for me, especially in the first few years. In fact, I've been missing Jill even more than usual myself lately, and the reason could be the change of season.

Your loss is still raw. It does get better, truly, but it takes a long time. And it never goes away. I can still get blindsided after nine years.

I can not even begin to imagine what you are feeling. Just the thought breaks my heart, brings tears to my eyes and makes me feel almost like I am suffocating.

My Mother In Law lost her oldest son a few years before I met their family. Its been about 25 years ago now that he died. While most of the time, she does well and can talk about him just fine, a few months ago she had a really bad day.

My Step mom lost her only son several years ago. Just a few months ago she said, "I have taken myself off of my anti-depressants." His birthday was last Thursday. She took the day off of work.
