I sit sideways with my leg crossed, very bad for pain in right leg. Also my neck gets stiff from looking thru bifocals. need a new chair also.l

There is no way I could use my bifocals while at the computer. I have a pair of drugstore glasses that allow me to see the screen, comfortably. I got ones that are lesser strength than needed for reading. Example: Drugstore reading glasses = 2.25
Computer glasses= 1.75
It works for me, and saves my neck.

This is great and they should teach it in school but how do you sit so you don't fall off the chair when you doze off???

I sit with my laptop on my lap - where ever I am sitting.

If I am actually working I sit as I should with lots of breaks. If I am checking forums and such I sit sideways and then wonder why my neck is sore! I have a wonderful chair too. I really should pay more attention when I sit down.

foggyj - Glad to hear that you have done what I've been thinking of, and that it is working. Bifocals are great, but a PITA for computer and some aspects of gardening! I'm off to the drug store.

Was on the road to carpal tunnel until I went to an ergonomics seminar. Changed my position, dropped the keyboard and got a high backed new chair with arm rests. Years later the CT has abated!

I'm shocked that the article doesn't mention the importance of the right eyewear when using the computer. Wearing regular bifocals or progressives can result in PERMANENT damage to the neck and spine. Anyone who wears those kinds of glasses should have a pair of computer glasses (top-mid distance for viewing the screen; bottom close prescription for reading documents, etc) for use when at the computer--it makes all the differen in both comfort and future health.

I've worn progressive lenses for over 30 years, never heard of any "computer glasses"....and spent hours of working and leisure time at computer screens.

I use an exercise ball for my chair. Love it.

I prefer to get 4:00 reading glasses when I can.

I'm supposed to put my feet up as much as possible ... but I imagine that, were I to get them straight out in front, my tail bone and hip bones would soon be complaining.

I usually sit straight up, and try to keep from crossing my legs, which I think makes it harder for the old pump to keep the blood flowing, what with the valves at the top of the legs not working well, so letting the blood drop back down some in the interval between pumps of the heart.

Good wishes for getting everything straightened out ... or should that be, "in order"?

rhizo_1 Is the ball high enough for a computer desk? Isn't it kinda wobbly? I think I would still lean forward if I sat on a ball.

I wish I could use the ball since it's so good for the abs, but I tend to get headaches with it. On the same note, if I put my arms on the armrests, it pushes up my shoulders ever so slightly, enough to bother my neck muscles and give me a headache. But that's just me.

I bought one of those flow thru back support things you get at Dollar Tree today, I don't know if its helping or not. I also looked at the ball, they have them at walmart for $19.99 burst proof I think they say on the package. I really don't think they would be too comfortable. Too much work to stay on.
