Cottage (or cowboy) pie. It's really too hot for this meal, but I'm tired of summer stuff. And I had some mushrooms to use up, along with carrots and parsnips.
Oh, wow. All this comfort food I'm reading about is making me hungry again. I just had a bowl of veg soup an hour ago, but the soda crackers I had in the cupboard were stale. Used them anyway but didn't taste good.
I was at Amber's and I had a sandwich spread sandwich and a Hummingbird cupcake. I don't know what the others ate as we sort of ate in shifts. I have been at her home since 8 this morning and watched the baby and had the food hot for meals. The rummage stuff is put away and the canopy is down and put away. I am ready to go to bed. Turned out to be a really pretty day out.
We went to an 80th birthday party. This couple has a beautiful pool and surrounding patio but alas, it rained and the party was inside. Nevertheless, a good time was had by all. I ate a lot of oysters and shrimp.
I made: hot cheese dip (served with corn chips); hoisin chicken with vegetables over rice, grilled pineapple, caramel apples, peanut butter oatmeal cookies, bread pudding with caramel sauce.
Others had chili, burgers, pineapple marinated in coconut rum, salads, oriental noodles--the list goes on and on.
We lucked out weather wise, it was a glorious day--in the 60's. The crowd was nice. Every home had some sort of activity planned for the kids (we made sponge balls with them, and supplied the pinatas). Other activities included: water balloon fight, face painting, musical chairs (in the middle of the street), crafts, a scavenger hunt. One of the neighbors sets up a sound system and DJ's. The street's blo9cked off, and the kids get to enjoy safely riding their bikes and scooters down the middle of the street.
It was a great day, but I'm bushed. DH had to work (of course) so it was up to me to not only prepare the food, but set up the chairs, table, canopy, pull the grill out front (and it's the size of a volkswagon!) The party's still going, but we've packed it in and come inside. In the morning we'll pile the lawn stuff into the truck and take it back to the country house.
Nice day, though--and DD and a friend came to share it with us.
Parmesan crusted chicken, baked sweet potato with brown sugar and butter, mixed seasonable veggies..squash, broccoli carrots...strawberry cheesecake. (Ate in a restaurant)
Yesterday we ate at a Shaker Village restaurant. I had tomato/celery soup, which was really good. Then shared the dinner with Sola: pork with apricot topping, potato croquet and squash. The dinner came with a "free" side of tomato casserole, yeast rolls and little corn muffins. Liza had steak, asparagus and something else, I can't remember. Sola also had a side salad. None of us could finish it all. There was just too much food.
