Saturday dinner? We are planning early

Our choices were chicken enchiladas (new to us) or delivery pizza...we have chosen pizza. Hubby worked all day on a porch for my brother and I did shopping for us and my sister, and watched grandsons' football games. Warm sun did me in. We are taking a ride out to a new apple orchard and country store and I didn't want to be late with the thread on my last night. Thanks, Rhizo for taking this week.

Starting to work on the freezer so I can defrost it within the next month. Chicken pot pie here.

I'm jealous of your trip to the orchards and country store. One of the (very few) things I miss about living in a more northern location is the apple orchards and freshly pressed cider. There are a few orchards around here but they can't grow the yummy varieties I grew up with.

I think that we'll have breakfast for dinner tonight. Whole wheat blueberry or walnut cinnamon pancakes and bacon. Sinfully delicious.

Yachter, thanks for your comments on this table. Not Chrismasy but winter is what I was hoping for when I set it. I set it in such a hurry that I see I didn't turn my trees with the pretty side out on all of them. Magpie, I should of stated DDaughter so you would of known for sure. Either one, glad you liked it. Yes, Karen, Jane and Creek are all having trying times with DDads. OA, thanks and I may try a MG table but don't know if I have much to put on it. I fell in love with these trees and some others at Shopko this year and DD never fails me. She listens to close sometimes but is always thinking of my tables for me while shopping. My jaw really dropped when I seen these stems. May be a little to upper class for me.lol Luvs, this was an accident with the trees and stems but they do seem to go together. When I received them I was thinking about using DM's 3 wisemen and setting a table but didn't have time. Jeanne, 20 years is perfect. Your still young enough to enjoy all the sports and life with them. I always told our children that they needed to be able to support their family if they were alone so it takes alot of hard work to be able to do this. Your DGD will appreciate life more with having to work to achieve it. Both our children own businesses and it's paying off. DD and I are 24 years apart and her and her DD are 25. She had to finish college, get married, own a home before having children. Wish we were all so disciplined in life.lol Thanks for all the wonderful comments on this table. In the tri-plex we live in, the landlady recently died. Her daughter is taking over the building and is cleaning out her mom's apartment and re-decorating it head to toe, which it badly needs. DH and I help out around here.....mow the lawn, etc. In the winter we shovelled the parking lot and sidewalk (the landlady was elderly). I asked if I could have a little herb garden and was told to go for it, so a friend came and made a raised bed for me. I dug it out, cleaned out all the stones and mixed up some soil and compost. It's now ready for plantings of whatever I want. I made some rhubarb muffins, and gave 1 to the new landlady, and sent some home with our friend who made the beds. Gave another to our neighbour (who I often ply with baked goods). And we had a couple. Now I have to make some more! Spiced up some chicken breasts and pan-fried them with broccoli and steamed rice. Ice cream for dessert.

Geez, I went to bed at 8 last night so I didn't get to read what ya'll ate. Shirley, I'll trade meatloaf for chicken livers. I don't know why I don't make them at home, but I never have. It was a real shame about I'll Have Another. He was born here in Ocala and sold for only $11,000 in a nearby county. Bet that guy could kick himself! Glenda, have you decided what to take to your luncheon? I love tamales but we haven't had any luck with them locally. Even at the Mexican bakery/restaurant. Sandwich is on the way--you should get it about Wednesday :-) Hounds, I'd love to have a Big Green Egg. I like smokey stuff! It uses charcoal, right? Oh yum!! You won't even have to cook at all for a few days, you lucky duck. Blfenton, thanks for the reminder. I have halibut in the freezer Harry bought at the fish market. Your dinner sounds delicious. The potatoes I made are just regular potatoes au gratin with gruyere cheese and a funny method of making the casserole. Mary, you had a feast! I will have to try chicken parmesan. I've never made it and probably only had it out once or twice. Bet you enjoyed every bite! Jasdip, congrats to DH!! Hope he enjoys his new gig. It sounds like a big step up for him. Sure hope so. Every time I tell Harry we're having pancakes for dinner, his whole face lights up! I know what you mean about the heat taking away your appetite, Cheryl. Are you an auctioneer? At least your DGS was a happy camper. Hope you've cooled off. Did you get a lot done in your garden, Sue? I saw in today's weather you may get rain tomorrow, but today's going to be a scorcher! Don't you be coming down with a cold, or worse Patti! Nice and warm again today. It's probably the last before it turns cold again. (11C= 52F). Hung the laundry outside and hubby and I bought the curtain rod that I needed so we can hang some drapes. The apartment is outfitted with vertical blinds and I bought some burgundy panels that were on clearance, as I like the softness of curtains. We had to buy a 144" rod so we put that up today. Looks real nice and homey. I'll post a pic tomorrow or so. Made bran muffins today as well. Dinner was chicken parmigiana with spaghetti and a salad. The chicken breast was huge, and we pigged out. Man it was good.

Friend's DH brought me some fresh fish, so that is what I will have, probably with baked butternut squash.

Just put Black bean, Corn and Salsa Chicken in the oven. Only it isn't quite 'salsa'. Discovered that I am all out of salsa after I put everything else in the baking dish. Improvised with a can of Rotel spicy tomatoes with some taco sauce added. Hubby will probably be happy...the spicier the better for him. Will have some baked Tostitos scoops for scooping up all that goodness and a salad, of course.

I just pop out in the back yard for apples. They are just starting to be ready..but no fresh cider..although I could convince hubby to buy a juicer. ;)

I just fixed pannini's and french fries..I am drinking a huckleberry soda..

We got soaked at Kamren's football game..SOAKED!

I bought a large bone-in ham on sale, because of the cravings I had, in reading Shirley having simmered ham, potatoes and beans.

We had that for dinner last nite and it was soooo good. Comfort food to be sure. Lots of ham leftover for frying (yum!) and heating up with scalloped potatoes, etc. I'll freeze some ham, too.
