What's for dinner Saturday?

It's been the prettiest day here. I opened up the house this morning and turned the air up to 82. There was a nice breeze and Harry and I sat on the screened porch and chit-chatted for a long time. Finally at 3, I had to close it up and turn the air down.

I made strawberry soup earlier and it's been chilling for dinner. We'll have homemade date-nut bread with cream cheese with it.

I hope all of you had just as beautiful weather as we did. What are you planning for dinner?

In the tri-plex we live in, the landlady recently died. Her daughter is taking over the building and is cleaning out her mom's apartment and re-decorating it head to toe, which it badly needs.

DH and I help out around here.....mow the lawn, etc. In the winter we shovelled the parking lot and sidewalk (the landlady was elderly).

I asked if I could have a little herb garden and was told to go for it, so a friend came and made a raised bed for me. I dug it out, cleaned out all the stones and mixed up some soil and compost. It's now ready for plantings of whatever I want.

I made some rhubarb muffins, and gave 1 to the new landlady, and sent some home with our friend who made the beds. Gave another to our neighbour (who I often ply with baked goods). And we had a couple. Now I have to make some more!

Spiced up some chicken breasts and pan-fried them with broccoli and steamed rice. Ice cream for dessert.

Full Moon BBQ drive-thru for a 3 rib sandwich.
Ate the ribs, froze the sauce, threw out the bread.

Rhizo, hope you're finished in time for the movie. Those kabobs sure sound yummy! YogaLady, does that mean we won't see your sweet self for a few days? Our friend dropped in on his bicycle this afternoon. He was out on a couple of errands and when he went home he realized that he hadn't taken his house key with him. So he dropped around to put in some time till his neighbours came home who have a spare key. I had taken a baked ziti out of the freezer, and knew there would be enough for 3 of us, so we had that and salads. Some oatmeal-carrot muffins that I made today as well. Terri, I made the hamburger bun recipe that you posted, we had breakfast burgers. I halved the recipe and only got 4 buns out of it, so I'll definitely make a full recipe next time.

..Asking me for a recipe isn't usually something I can help with. But I'll try! And I know that I said orzo but I MEANT coucous! But it sure would work with orzo. Fix 1 cup coucous and 1/2 cup red quinoi according to the directions on their labels. Be sure to rinse the quinoa first, and I prefer the red....it tastes nuttier to me. I cook both of them in chicken broth. This salad can be made just with quinoi, but I didn't want to scare my guests. :-) Veggies....to equal about two cups or more : chopped green onions, red bell pepper, english cuke, chick peas (rinsed and drained), halved cherry tomatoes. Use your favorite vinaigrette . I made a lemon dressing with quarter cup fresh lemon juice, quarter cup olive oil, two cloves minced garlic, chopped fresh oregano, sugar, S & P to taste, and a splash of balsamic or other vineger. I didn't use all of the dressing. Add it to the couscous and quinoi while still warm, cover, and chill. When ready to serve, stir and taste to add more dressing if necessary. I added a bit of lemon zest on top for serving and fresh mint from the garden .

Glenda, I've been in restaurants before when the tour bus pulls in. It's a madhouse trying to get everyone's order and food to them in a timely manner. I sure feel sorry for those waitresses/waiters, and hope the get nice tips. Shirley, I need to do that, too. I haven't found a new cleaning service yet, so I'm trying to do just the basics. Enough to keep the health dept. away :-) You had a great-sounding dinner, BTW! Sweet Betsy, do you put beans in your chili? I used to but one day I didn't have any and I never went back to adding them. Orchidllauraga, I just love Stouffer's lasagna. I bought one because I'd heard they were good and swore I'd never make my own again. The LSU/Bama game is probably the game of the year. Sorry, but don't count on LSU winning. Alabama is on like a 5 or 6 year roll! Seagrass, LOL! But that really is a hubby loving meal. I wouldn't mind it myself. Marilyn, beware! We built a huge garage/workshop/man cave when we lived in OT. It took Harry about one week to fill it up until there was no longer room for the car. He even built a loft to hold the spill over. All that stuff had been lurking in the attic. You're nice to fix him his favorites. That happens to be MY favorite, too :-) In fact, that's what I requested every year for my birthday meal (only we call them noodles). Sue, you sure can't beat the price of that meal. I'd sure love a piece of that pie! Kittiemom, I haven't made black bean soup over rice for many years. Don't know why other than the fact my recipe is loaded with bacon. But it's sooo good! Bet it was good! Geez, Mary. You cleaned your house AND made a yummy dinner! You surely will sleep well tonight. Pam, oh boo! I'm sorry your GS's team lost. Glad you weren't cold, though. Patti, that sounds delicious. I didn't get my share of cookout food this summer, darn it! Bengardening, what a fun evening. It's been a beautiful day here in Ohio also. I wouldn't mind having at least a couple of hundred of them every year. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow so will probably have to run the ac.

I made chicken breasts and stuffing, had peas to go with them.

Jasdip, how lucky for you to have your own little spice garden. Just think of all the wonderful dishes you'll have with them--although you do pretty darned good already!!

Party hearty, Glenda. Thanks for the braised bean recipe this morning on "I'll share my recipe" post. They sound wonderful!

I've decided on chicken for tomorrow, Shirley. Your dinner's sounding really good to me, so it may be with my jazzed up Stove Top!

WE went to Neals Texas Home cookin I got the enormous fried shrimp, they butterfly them and use a cornmeal batter which I love. I have a box of them I had to bring home. Hubby had the batter fried pork chops I really love those too.

Italian! Chicken Marsala! YUMMY!

Mel and Judy came over, and went with me to pick up a futon bed. Mel has a big red pickup.

As a thank you, I took them out to dinner. Really nice time.

I took some meatloaf out of the freezer. Also made mashed potatoes and steamed some broccoli to go with it. Will have ice cream floats for dessert.
