I have it in most of the first joints of my fingers, and at the base of my pointer fingers too.

Mine is not always painful. I finally went to see a specialist today. I have Osteoarthritis.

Nothing much can be done. I am already taking glucosamine and controiton. Will up the dose, recommendation from the doc. This should slow it down some from spreading.

DD has that and sometimes in the winter it is quite painful. One recommendation that she uses is 'paraffin soaks'. We bought a vessel that melts and warms paraffin....you soak hands/or feet. Now that I think about it, DH went for "Hand Therapy" once upon a time. Maybe your MD would recommend that. Seems like the "thing to soak in" was $30 at WWorld.(including a block of paraffin.)

Nanny, I get the same results washing dishes. :) We never run out of dirty dishes at work... and I volunteer all the time. ;)

Sounds like that soak might be nice - make my hands soft if nothing else... I'll check around for that Bleu emu - thanks - I took the pain medication and it put me to sleep! Not a good thing as I am the care giver/guardian to my 8 year old autistic grandson. I did talk him into watching tv with me in my bed as I caught a short nap. :) Pain never went away - I'll check at the health store tomorrow to see if they have anything that might help too.

I have also tried Anica Montana... but to open that tube I needed pliers, cause my fingers were hurting so much. The Anicare gel is also helpful.

All depends on how bad the pain is, on what all to try.

Wal-Mart and Walgreens sell Blue-Emu. I bought a jar last week Monday and It has helped my knees, and my left foot that I broke most of the toes and just above the toes Jan. 2011.. If I put much weight on it It gets excruciating! Doc said I can't have surgery because of my age and diabetes -- might get infected. That has not been good for my health or gaining a little weight. I have been able to walk around much more since I started using it.

At first I was afraid to use it on my hands because I might rub it in my eye when I sleep but I then thought if I use it early and then wash my hands it would be soaked in and I could wash. It soaks in quickly and the pain is removed quickly. I can't tell you how much this has relieved the pain. It's worth a try.

My finger is better and I can point straight again!!! I took another pain pill last night, but won't take any today - I am continuing to wear my magnetic bracelet to see if it continues to get better before trying anything else. My joint at the tip is still really swollen.

it could be the crazy weather, too...noticed my hands are a bit puffy today, and we're expecting 90 and then storms thru tomorrow here in mi...every time the pressure goes up or down I seem to feel it...

Changes in the barometric pressure seem to cause aches and pains in a lot of people, especially as we age. I find that putting my hands in really hot water gives relief for a while.
