I'm delighted...about a shower curtain rod

Long and rambling, as always...

Ahhh...simple pleasures for simple minds. Mine, of course.

I've been on a "shower curtain rod" quest. We completely gutted and remodeled the bathroom ages ago. It's nice; I think it's pretty; it's functional...except I couldn't find "the" shower curtain rod.

Our shopping selections are limited, to say the least. I wanted:

- A double curtain rod. I want a "beautiful" fabric curtain on the outside of the tub and a serviceable, inexpensive, vinyl liner on the inside.

- A curved rod, mainly because I've never had one.

- I did not want it to be "extendable" or tension mounted. I want the rods to be cut to size, one-piece, and not have the connector to catch the curtain rings.

- Must be a nice, brushed nickle finish. I understand the decorating gurus have said brushed nickle is "out." By the time I get this house finished it will be "in" again.

Time passed; I didn't find what I wanted and we were content to use the basement shower, even though the concrete floor has yet to be tiled.

Last week I slapped myself out of my brain-fog, got on line, and ordered exactly what I wanted.

And now it has already been delivered!

It's even more beautiful, solid, and substantial than I hoped for. The mounting brackets are solid brass and heavy enough for me to probably swing from! I am delighted with it.

Is it odd to be delighted with a shower curtain rod? Is it even more odd to consider you could possible swing from your shower rod?

Now I just have to decide on the height placement and then call LaVonne! She's teaching me to drill through tile.

I'll post an "after" photo once the rod is hung.

I hope you didn't get a Moen rod. I have a curved shower curtain rod from Moen in brushed nickel and it has rusted.

I think the rust was caused by metal curtain rings, but still, it shouldn't have happened.

I do love the curved rod because the new tub also has a curved apron.

Enjoy your new rod. It's the little things in life that make a difference!

Caroline, let me know, how the drilling goes. I ended up with a tension rod, even so I hate the transition area.

However, I LOVE my shower curtain!

I bought an 'adjustable' curved shower rod, online. It's composed of 2 curved pieces, one slides inside the other. It's terrible - the diameters of the 2 pipes/rods are very different. There is enough room for the rod to move, and the rings don't slide over the junction. I'm guessing you can buy a solid piece, and cut it to fit. I doubt 43" will be a problem. Look for some curved shower rods online, and then research the manufacturers. Most will have details about installation, more than retailers' sites. Pick up the phone and call the manufacturer if you still have probs.

flseadog - I'm fine with the location as it is. When I came home and learned they had moved it in a bit, I was ready to be upset, but it is just fine. Since the master bath is under construction right now, four of us are showering in there daily, and we all are happy with the elbow room. Thanks for the compliment. An outer curtain made the space seem smaller, and it's minimal already. I'm not thrilled with the fancy hooks though...they fly off the rod when you take the curtain down - I've been hit a couple of times. My husband threw his towel over the hooks yesterday, and when my daughter pulled it off to shower, a hook flew in the toilet. She was not pleased. Oh the joys of togetherness! cassie 225, I don't think you would lose much width in 10-12" of height. It doesn't curve in to the tub until the very lower part. But that's why we did the temporary rod experiment first -- I didn't want to drill holes in the tile until we were sure where we wanted it. Well worth the $10.

Actually had two shower curtains on my alcove shower. One was a fixed shower curtain that was hung on an exterior rod from wall to wall. It had a valance and two fixed panels, one on either side. Then, I had another shower curtain. This was a plain white cloth curtain that was on the rod. It was on rings that also included a plastic curtain for water protection. So....two rods. An exterior one. That was covering my end walls/tiles. Then, a regular bath rod that held both a fabric outer curtain and a plastic one. We no longer have this system or I would post a photo. But, yes...it can be done!

It’s porous limestone. Far softer and more porous than marble. Marble is metamorphisized limestone. It’s harder and less porous. And it has HUGE issues with chipping, staining, scratching, and etching. Limestone will just have multiple repeat performances. Accept it for what it is, and how it behaves. Or remove it and do something else.

I get excited about every new thing I bring into my house. However, I can tell you from childhood experience of swinging on the soap dish in my father's shower that it probably won't hold up forever to gymnastics. LOL!

DedTired - It came from Signature Hardware; I had read some negative reports about Moen so I didn't choose them. It has a five-year warranty. I have stainless rings, with the round bearings. Perhaps I should check with them to see if I need to use plastic rings.

Moni - I love that curtain.

Fun2BHere - I think I'd better pass on the gymnastics, too. The brackets may be strong, but the screws can withstand only so much stress!

I was excited to find these double hook shower curtain
rings today! Well, almost these. lol Mine have a nicer
finish to the hook that goes over the rod.

We have double shower curtains and these did not require a special rod. We merely hung both curtains from the same rings; The water shield goes inside the tub and the decorative curtain goes outside the tub. Works great. Occasionaly, the inner curtain needs to be replaced and its a little awkward handling two curtains when hanging these, but my wife doesn't mind. You see, its my job to hang thewe curtains. LOL.

Jem, I do the same. In fact, I kept the old vinyl curtain, it's inside...

I love that curtain too, that's why I bought it. But I should have bought something with a smaller pattern/print/picture. This is almost to big for my small bathroom.

I got a curved rod when we remodeled our bathroom in 2005. Love it and still have it. I buy new shower curtains from time to time.
