Not my favorite time of the year. Football for 3 days in a row. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Also, ATV's, Camper Trailers, Jeeps, Pickup Trucks with Deer Stands and feeders. Yep, its that time of the year here. The Dreaded Deer Season is almost here.

I bet there isn't a Beer Left on the shelves in stores. LOL! I love to watch the Deer Hunters grocery shop. Brisket, Beans, Taters and "white" bread. Real Men obviously don't eat Whole Wheat Bread.

A friend called me to ask if Main Man would like to go hunting with him. I said "Are you kidding? Your talking about someone who buys catch and release mouse traps." (Not only that he can't keep from talking that long up in a deer stand.)

The only good thing, is that this is the time of the year us Gals get together and go shopping and eat out. So remember that Guys when the bills roll in. There is a price to pay.

Oh yes, don't forget Goose Huntin too! That requires Man's Best Friend, the lucky one's get to ride in the front of the pick up truck. LOL!

Oh Gayle I can so relate to "hunting" comments. However, IT is my favorite time of the year!!! 5-10 days of total "ME TIME".

The males in my family "bond" in August during Archery season! They too purchase and EAT food they wouldn't think eating at home! Bologna, white bread, Vienna Sausage, canned white potatos, beans and weiners....all I can think of right now.

As for the constant sports.....I am the guilty party at this house!

I guess I'm in the minority of guys. I've never hunted much and don't get into sports that much either. I've watched a total of about 15 minutes of football this month and even that has bigbabys knickers in a twist. As for hunting I have a lot more fun carrying a camera.

What a funny story CI. You might try picking up a few pullets from a feed store this spring or at a poultry swap or auction. The blue/green eggs are the coolest thing! I haven't got any pink layers but can only imagine the thrill. I do have one that lays a deep dark brownish pink though. I just love the different colors. -Sheila

Fruit and Orchards is a great forum with a lot of patient, knowledgeable folks. Clematis as well, however I now have 18 of the things and its too tempting to keep going. Harvest has some great friendly people and great recipes, but there is only one way, the USDA way, to can stuff and don't dare bring up that other folks in other countries do things differently and manage to live to tell about it. I wish they would put things in perspective and define the risk a bit better, as it is they scare people off. Soil and compost has its curmudgeons, as well as organic gardening, and I'll likely say something when its just too outrageous. Vegetables just zips by so fast its hard to keep up, this time of year. Alliums is fun, but the really knowledgeable folks haven't been there recently. Hot peppers is, well, a bit over the top. And some forums have a group of friends who have known each other for years and its kinda hard to break in.

First,are you taking any vitamins? This could be as simple as a vitamin deficentcy. Have you been under unusual amounts of stress? Because that can cause hairloss. Certain medications can contribute to hairloss.Are you on any medications? It could simply be an age factor.I read somewhere that something like 70 percent of women have somewhat thinner hair by age 30. It could be HORMONAL.Too much testosterone in women can cause hairloss. Do you have any other problems such as: excessive facial hair,acne,irregular periods? If so a doctor may put you on birth control pills. It could also be a thyroid problem.And you may want to have your thyroid checked. Haircolor can also cause more hair shedding.Especially bleaching.If hair is damaged,it may break off. So,as you see,there are ALOT of possible causes of hairloss for women. Here are some things to try on your own: 1) There is a product called NIOXIN.It is a bit expensive (30 dollars) for a 3 step system (shampoo,conditioner,and a scalp spray) that you can find at almost any salon. It was made for people with thinning hair and really plumps what hair you have,while putting your scalp in optimal conditions to grow more hair.This is a great product for people with fine or thinning hair! 2) Start taking a vitamin called BIOTIN.And make sure you are getting enough protein.Also,a multi vitamin if you arent already. 3) Make sure you are getting plenty of rest. 4) Soy is excellent for hair and hair growth.I read an article that said soy may help with hairloss,as it blocks the hormone DHT testosterone that causes male patterned baldness.If you are a woman with too much testosterone,then it could also help.Maybe some TOFU or a glass of soy milk a day would be ideal. 4) See a doctor.For issues like THYROID or vitamin deficency,only your doctor will able to figure out what is going on and how to regulate it if needed with medication. 5) Get a good trim.If the hair falling out is at all caused by damage or hair dyes,this will help mountains! Plus it will make your hair seem fuller. Dont feel bad,I'm sure there is a reason why this is happening,and you will get to the bottom of it.Good luck to you!

I am on natural gas and when I started playing with the air shutter I found that they needed to be almost all the way open to maybe a little closed to get the perfect flame and no lifting. While you really had to close the air shutter almost completely to get a orange/wobbly flame and smoke. I found that the rest of the adjustments gave a blue flame. However, there was lifting or what I will call blending of the flames. For example, on most of the burners, when the port was 50-75% closed, the inner most ring would be a wider fuzzy flame that did look like it was lifting but would meld together. When you got a little shy of full open, I found that this gave the most individual tight flames on each port. While adjusting up and down a quarter turn didn't at first seem to make much of a difference, I noticed lifting on some ports. You also can feel the difference in heat output on high as well. The tighter the flames got and no lifting on all ports, I could feel a noticeable change. I also found that by doing this when its dark out and can turn off/down the lights its much easier to see the flame. Sort of like Trevor's video. What might look like a nice flame can turn out to really be lifting under regular lighting. Although, I adjusted I am not sure if mine is OK or not. I haven't had a chance to re-simmer yet. Thus, not sure if I did it right yet ;).

I don't mind the NFL - the 'background' noise is great for doing needle work. I always associate this with beautiful fall days, baking. A nice change from repeats on TV during the evening.
My DH has never been involved in hunting at all, it's just the seasonal sports on TV and channel flicking to other shows if the game is poor.
As for me - I'm thinking Christmas.....

I don't hunt, but I do eat meat. I'm married to the original Mountain Man. He should have been born in the 1700s.

Dove season blends into grouse season blends into early goose season blends into an the extra early deer season which overlaps duck season (what a dilemma) blends into turkey season blends into another deer season blends into the real goose season (which might be over-shadowed by an elk hunt) blends into the big deer season blends into squirrel season while coyote and rabbit seasons overlap them all. (He doesn't hunt coyotes, but he does like to call them.)

Harry and Wes and tired, muddy, and giddy with joy from September through March. (Except for the deer seasons when Harry has to stay home with me.) Harry's not allowed outside of the fenced yard during any of the deer seasons. He's brown; he's big; he has long legs. He stays in with me.

I love deer camp week. I go on shopping trips; I eat cereal three times a day; I watch sappy movies. Harry and I host at least one "girls' night" and he gets his nails polished; too. If I feel really wild and crazy, I run to Fargo.

Wes and his buds eat like kings in deer camp. Wes takes his Dutch ovens and does the stacked dinner thing. His special potato dish is in the bottom Dutch oven; meat main course is in the second oven, home made bread in the third, and apple pie crumble in the top Dutch. All the guys specifically ask for his "country potatoes" when they are doing their pre-camp meal planning. For the big camp this season, after the hard freezes, I'm making home made breakfast burritos for two mornings. They can thaw and heat them in the Dutch ovens. That should be a treat. Hot breakfast with no wasted hunting time.

On this past weekends' hunt, I noticed that there wasn't one green vegetable nor one piece of fruit on their shopping lists. Tsk tsk. But I kept my mouth shut. Wes did take a couple six-packs of his V-8 juice. I was impressed!

The only sports Wes watches if the half-time show of the yearly Super Bowl.

Do your Guys have their own Camphouse or go to a different Lodge for each occasion?

I don't hunt but I enjoy Dove stuffed with Jalapenos wrapped in Bacon on the grill. Forget Geese or Pheasant. I really like Venison and it is really good for you.

My Daughter and her Husband Hunt/Fish, so I get a taste of all the different game. If we had a decent garden we wouldn't have to shop for groceries.

Don't paint Harry's toenails! Shame on you. Poor Baby!

But Gayle; he luuuuvvvvs his red or silver nail polish! (Said in my best whiney voice! LOL) He gets silver polish at Christmas; it's not too girly and makes him look festive. It sets off his silvery markings! LOL

My guys don't do the Lodge thing; they're out there in tents or campers, sometimes alone, sometimes with a couple other guys. They rough it, cook over the fire (and in dutch ovens and Coleman stoves!) take tons of heavy duty cold weather gear, come home smelling like bears, and seem to have a blast.

I love pheasant, but don't care for goose at all. I love domestic duck, but to me the wild ones taste like pond scum. Venison is the best. It makes up 90% of our red meat for the year. We have it ground into burger with 25% beef round steak added to it. Not beef fat, just the lean beef. Makes it so yummy.

Oh well that's different. Heres Homey with his Silver Toenails and Turquoise Necklace. Before I inherited him from Mom, I took him to a "foo foo" Doggy Spa in Houston while I was babysitting him. He's very much a "Country Dog", all my Mom's friends got a kick out of his new City look.
