54 & wondering.......

It is DH & my 54th anniversary today. Good heavens!!! where did those years go???? I look at our wedding picture and wonder where that red haired, good lookin dude and that slim, pretty brunette gal, went. sigh!! Dottie

Mine is number 25 today and I forgot until hubby reminded me yesterday that it was 25. I will be 55 this year - urk!
Yeah that skinny dirty blonde looks a little (hah!) different too. Hubby just has less hair!

Yes, the poor cut issue of some of the AYP machines has come up before. Mine has a 46" 3 blade deck, and it's by far the worst deck design I've ever seen. Too many contours and obstructions underneath to allow the grass to discharge effectively. The clippings bouncing around underneath the deck rapidly begin to build up unless the grass is dry enough to crumble between your fingers. Even if the grass IS that dry, the clippings bouncing off of all of the obstructions STILL affects the airflow underneath to the point that the deck leaving the strips results. Several forum members have offered up helpful advice when owners post problems like this, but sharpening the blades, leveling the deck, mowing with the throttle pinned wide open, etc. etc. have yet to answer why a different rider with a better deck design can mow the same grass....with dull blades....at half throttle....and at a higher ground speed. I've personally compared two other tractors to mine on my lawn. And I've done so immediately after sharpening the blades, leveling the deck, making sure the belts were properly tensioned, etc. on my machine. The machines I compared mine with, hadn't seen a lick of maintenance or fiddling of any kind. Both were cheaper tractors too. I like the tractor itself, but the deck is junk. @staceyneil - thanks for the condolence hah..Yeah i'll have to seriously consider ripping the wall down up to the tile. There's no way to shave down the vanity b/c the doors run flush to the ends of it. I was wondering though if maybe it would be fine just replacing from the vanity top down with 1/4" drywall and using mud to fan out that transition from the 1/2" to 1/4" or maybe putting a chair railing over the transition. I mean the amount of space that would have the 1/4" is really small since the space in question between the front end of the vanity to the door frame is about 1.5' and the vanity will be 36" tall. So we're talking about a 1.5'x3'space that is kind of tucked away that will have thinner drywall?...thoughts? maybe i can put up a picture of the space i'm talking about. anyone know how to post a pic?

flwrs, I have never actually timed a dishwasher cycle as we normally run it toward end of evening and don't worry about it much but do not have any reason to think the cycle would take that long. I'll try to remember to time a cycle the next time we use the potscrubber option for a better answer. Regarding cleaning ability i will say the potscrubber does a GREAT job.. we have put some really caked items in there and they came out clean as new. Made a beleiver out of me as my previous dishwasher was so so at best and I often just washe din teh sink as it seemed I needed to pre wash so much I may as well just finish the job. Overall, the model we bought is quiet enough you have to listen hard to hear it runing when it starts. NO trouble talking at normal voice level and in our family room which is about 15-20 feet away one cannot even hear it. It is quite quiet. If the 41 dB version is quieter as I expect it is, just not sure it would come into play much. Course we each have our own definition of what quiet is and what is tolerable. I don't like noisy appliances and I am happy with this model and it cleans very well. My understanding is the biggest reason for the slightly higher noise level is due to the built in disposal, which I wanted. Good luckl on your decision though I have a feeling at that price point most are pretty darned good!

Thanks very much for your comments! I think that this looks pretty neat too lavender_lass! My neat freak side (who wants to hide the coffee area!) is locked in mortal combat with my lazy side (who doesn't want to open and close doors!) :-) :-) Thanks very much for your input lascatax. I'm sorry, I have not been able to upload a floor plan which would have been helpful...! But this area is located close to the breakfast table (sort of at the end of the table)... Probably a bit like yours? And ours is immediately beside the fridge. You have been REALLY clever with your use of space - such a good idea instead of a rarely-used door! You have achieved so much in 58"! I can imagine that this would be so very useful on a daily basis!!! You have inspired me...!!! And I love your use of the refrigerator drawers! (I had to look twice!) Our area would not have to close, I suppose. I guess that retractable doors would limit the width of usable counter space to less than 48", assuming that the doors could be 24" max to fit back within the cabinets. Counter space might be as little as 42" really...? That would be quite tight, wouldn't it!!! Thanks very much for taking the time to reply! All the best, Ruth

Congratulations...I hope to make 50 and more...

I know I've told this many times, but when we get to talking about long marriages...I like to tell about my great aunt Cecil and uncle Dave. They were married 77 years. and celebrated with three of their children on their 50th anniversarys.

Congratulations! My inlaws got to 45 but didn't make 50, my FIL passed away at age 70. My own parents made it to 50 and we gave them a nice party. 54 years together is certainly something to be proud of! Remember half of the marriages in the US end in divorce. I've been married 29 years, my best advice to any newlyweds is "Marriage isn't 50=50. It's 100-100."

Congrats from another Dottie...Our 54th is the end of October and I, like you, wonder.....DH has stayed pretty much the same, less hair but the same...Me, I've turned into my mother, hair, looks and probably attitude...(DH is so lucky)....
We deliver Meals on Wheels and often DH will remark, boy that person is old and when I check, they are younger than we are...Or if we happen to deliver to some of his former classmates, he then feels he's in pretty good shape...
