Hi Liz, so glad your visit went so well. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up, but maybe on the next visit we can. I have been to Metamora before with the family but it has been some years back. We took a ride on the train along the canal. I have also been to Nashville, so many little shops there. Isn't Greensburg the place with the tree growing out of the top of the courthouse? Or is it still there? I have not been to Elletsville or Oldenburg. Have a save trip home.

I'm an ex-pat from Indiana and my brother lives in Greensburg---well, just outside at Lake Santee. I love the area around Nashville and Bloomington. It's always so pretty in the fall. I also have sisters in Michigan City, Ft. Wayne and Leesburg which is west of FW on the seven lakes. We all grew up in Rushville. Where did you live?

I'm really jealous of you, 'ya know. As they say, there's no place like home.

We live about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis and love it. Lots of things to do and places to go. We also have a home in Southern Indiana near French Lick. The best of both worlds. The weather has been nice the past few weeks, not quite so hot as it had been.

Glad you got to come to visit and had a great time. Hope you get to come back again soon.. Your Aunt is lucky to have you...

Love Nashville for the little shops and in summer for the flea markets. My dad was born and raised in that area. Next time in In. come on up to the northern part have a great flea market at Shipshewana. Patti43 i live three miles from Leesburg. Nice little town.

I've never been to Indiana, but it sounds like a nice place to visit. Glad you had such a good time.

I miss Indiana! We lived in Terre Haute for a year while my husband did his grad work at ISU. We then lived in Indy for 4 years and loved it. Our oldest daughter was born at St. Vincent hospital on 86th street. My Dad was from Sheridan, just north of Indy and we still have family there. This is the time of year I miss IN the most...when the Persimmons are getting ready to fall. Love Persimmon Pudding!!!

Yes, Indiana is a nice place.

OHHH I just love all this Hoosier chatter...I grew up on a farm near Sandborn, Indiana..(greene county near Vincennes)...moved to Lafayette when I was 12 and stayed there till I started flying for Delta at age 22...spent two years in Houston...married my best friend and came back to Lafayette while he went to Purdue!) We moved to the Atlanta area in 1984 but Indiana will always be home and I really hope to retire there in a few years...at least for the months April to October!

I'm back at the airport now...waiting on my plane to take me home to the hubster, kids and doggies and my sweet precious puddy cat!

Patti, yes, we have seen Larry Bird. Once at a gas station and once early one morning when we were going to Patoka Lake to go fishing. He was jogging... He sold his home down there a few years ago. It is big but not like you would think it would be. At one time I had pictures. It has a full court basketball court with the Celtic logo painted on one half of it. A huge 5 or 6 ( I forget) garage... Big guy!!!!!

Yes i know where Irish lake is. Small world, my daughter lives on sawmill channel on Secrist lake which goes into Irish lake. There are something like 90 lakes just in our county. Tell your sister to look out her window when it gets cold and she sees a pontoon loaded with idiots in winter coats that would be them. LOL They just hate to give up the season.

Patti - My mom grew up in Morristown, and we still have family in that area.

I love taking our boys down to Nashville and Brown County, especially in the fall. The hikes are great for them, and they love all the things to explore in the area.

Yesterday, DS5 was complaining that the first day of fall shouldn't be 95 degrees. I think this time last year, I was definitely much cooler, probably by 30 degrees.

We were just at Shipshe flea market last Tues.It's really a big one. Only open on Tues.and Wed. Lots of good Amish restaurants.

I'm getting so homesick reading these. So many good memories! My dad and I both worked at Western Electric in Indianapolis and went through Morristown on SR 52 everyday. They had a great restaurant there where people would come from miles around to eat.

Patches, sis has a pontoon, too. They took us on a 7 lakes tour when we visited once. Unfortunately, she won't see your kids--she has a condo in Ft. Myers so comes to Florida once the leaves start changing.

Liz, did you work for Delta when you lived in Indiana? Another sister (I have 5, BTW) worked as a res agent in Indianapolis and then in Tampa after they moved to Florida. I know you've probably had them on you plane at one time or other. They travel a lot.

My mother and I used to take my grandmother to St. Vincent's for her chemo back in the mid-80's.

I love persimmon pudding, too, Sooey. But I just like eating them off the ground best. Did you ever eat one that looked ready but wasn't? Ewww!

I spent so much time at Purdue when I was dating my first husband, they should've given me an honorary degree! :0 He graduated with an EE degree two days after we were married. His family lived about 40 miles NW of Lafayette.

Another memory of Nashville, they used to have an old museum there that had a stuffed two-headed calf. I was a child and totally fascinated by it. (And secretly kept hoping one of our cows would give birth to one.) After giving birth myself I realized that wouldn't be any fun at all.

A great memory is high school basketball. It was a Friday night social event for the whole town. People in Indiana used to be rabid about high school b-ball. Don't know if it's still that way since they screwed around and went to classes rather than just "may the best team win" approach. When I lived in Connersville our team won the State. This was sometime in the 70's. It was the most excitement that little town had ever had. After the final game you could hear every car horn in town honking in celebration. Next day was a big parade with the whole county showing up to welcome our team back. Not much of a parade--just police cars with sirens screaming and a fire truck with the team on it, but it was grand to us.

Lifetime east-coaster here, but my husband has degrees from Purdue and Notre Dame, and now ND has won my daughter's heart. If we ever re-locate, I have a feeling it will be to the mid-west, with lifetime ties to Indiana...

I'm not from Indiana but was there a few weeks ago, in Santa Claus. Went to Holiday World amusement park. It's small but I like that and the fact that the drinks in the park are Free!

Marilyn, our daughter was born in '78 when the hospital was still new. We were back in IN in '05 for a quick visit and were both surprised to see how old it looked.

Patti43, yes eating them off the ground is wonderful...as long as they are really ripe and the bugs haven't gotten to them. I like the orange ones...sweet and good Persimmon flavor.

We were at ISU while Larry Bird was playing Basketball. I worked in the testing office of the University and proctored at least one exam that he took. He was just one of the guys at that point. We left TH for Indy in '75, just as Larry Bird was starting to take off. He is still a Hero to all Hoosiers. My Aunt holds on tight to her unopened box of Wheaties with LB on the front...

We have lots of persimmon trees down south and the deer love them..

We have tried to grow the persimmon trees up here in the northern part with no luck. Love the pudding.

Sooey, Amber our youngest was born in 1976. We don't have any persimmons but Cheryl has paw paw trees in their woods. I have never tasted them.

I spent 2 years as a POW (Prisoner of Westinghouse) in Yorktown, near Muncie. I thought Georgia was hot but Indiana is the most hot, humid place I've ever live. There were corn fields all around us and I'm allergic to corn mold so I had to take allergy shots when I lived there. I was 16 when we moved there and I learned to drive on snow. I was fearless but I wouldn't do it now.

HS basketball was crazy! I was used to football being the big thing but we had a lot of fun at the games especially at Tourney time. I got my nose broken during a bb game - I was a spectator!

I had a blast yesterday walking around the courthouse in Greensburg taking pictures and visiting some of the shops...

It sounds like you really packed in a lot of fun during your stay in IN.

Here is a little funny Greensburg trivia. It is often called Tree City because there is a tree growing out of the courthouse tower....see images at link below and note the clocks on the tower.

Anyway, does anyone know how the tree gets watered?
