Bad enuff, but what about the piercings you CAN'T see??

I remember the first time I saw a woman with a nose piercing. I thought the clasp that held it in place must feel like a big booger. LOL The ugly stretched out ear lobes is mutilation, in my opinion. Yeah, tatoos are also a turn off for me. That is an interesting theory about why men like women with bellybutton piercings. probably true. All in all I find self mutilations just plain icky. Remember, JMO.

I don't like the ear stretching either. But otherwise tattoos and piercings don't bother me one bit. We have a VP at my company with a tiny diamond in her nose and it's actually rather flattering on her. It's not really noticeable at casual glance and I think it gives her an interesting style. I was surprised that she would be allowed in our corporate setting but I'm glad they allow for some individuality.

Disgusting! I don't like tattoos either....

When I was in Kindergarten, I saw a black girl with pierced ears and it turned my stomach. Since then, I've grown up (a lot) and I see piercings and tattoos as self-expression. I still don't like to see young kids with holes and tats, but if you are over 18, then fine.Tho I was once in a fast food restaurant ordering. The clerk looked like he was about 16 and had recently got his tongue pierced, and he was drooling. Gross.

My nose is pierced, but I haven't worn a ring in it for so many years the hole is probably closed. I tried studs, but the backs always showed too much for me or if it was a twisty backing, it would turn and show too much. Must have been the way my piercing was done or just the shape of my nose. Anyway, I wore a ring and loved it.

One time at a grocery store, the bag girl was bringing my groceries out in the cart behind me when her friend who was visiting her I guess whispered, "I never saw an old lady with a nose piercing before". (!) I laughed, but that wasn't the reason I stopped wearing one. I forget exactly, I just took it out one day and since it can be a hassel to get a ring back in your nose I may have just said forget it.

That was a long time ago, and I still think now and then that I'd like to start wearing something. If I could, I'd wear a tiny diamond chip. But then I'm also probably going to have to get my nose re-pierced. ugh.

I really don't like them, nor do I like tattoos. The ear stretching is really gross to me, what happens when that kid wants to remove it? I don't even like multiple ear piercings, two look cute but when someone has them lined up the ear....YUCK. Just to prove what an old, set in her ways, out of touch woman I am......I don't like pierced ears on guys.

When I worked at the jewelry store a gal came in to have our goldsmith look at a large bar that she wore in her neck piercing. The piercing was at the base of her skull at her hairline. And it was fiercely inflamed. We all refused to touch it and tried to encourage her to go to the emergency room because it appeared that she was on the brink of a major infection in a very dangerous spot. I often wonder what the outcome was.

I don't like them, escpecially whent the tonque piercing interferes with speech. It turns my stomach when I see anyone with gigantic stretched out holes in their ears. Thank goodness my kids never did anything like that.

For the most part I don't give a flip what stupid things strangers do with their bodies. I do, however, care about friends and relatives and won't hesitate to make my feelings known.

On the other hand, I've begun watching my favorite cooking competitions less and less because of the unkempt hair and beards, body piercings and tattoos. They just look dirty to me and I wouldn't want them anywhere near my food.

Many cultures pierce their bodies in different ways, but we are only used to seeing the (small) ear piercings. I suppose it's what you are used to because people in other cultures think they look beautiful with their piercings. I think piercings can be a phase for young people, but they are making a mistake to do the piercings which cause permanent changes, like the big ear "rings."

That said, the tongue piercings creep me out, and when someone waits on me with a tongue piercing, I feel like asking them what they were thinking when they did it!

It's funny how people with tongue piercings, get all hung up when needing an injection for a tooth problem. You'd think you were going to stab them in the head with a butcher knife, but yet they're ok with the stabbing of their tongue with a metal stud that stays there!. Never ceases to amaze me.

Don't care for how they look, but then not even my ears have ever been pierced -- too many holes in my head without purposely adding more.

I have no use for piercings and tattoos. I think that tattoos are a fab right now and when that fad goes away and the kiddies think it looks ugly and only the "OLD PEOPLE" have them when the people(young now) that are getting them now are going to be the "old people" and they are going to look stupid with tattoos all over their bodies! It will be out of style when the next generation gets older. Then who's going to have the thousands of $$$ to get them removed?

According to the Bible if someone owns a slave they may only keep that person in captivity for 7 years. At the end of the 7 yrs the slave is to be freed and may go their own way. If the slave has taken a wife or husband, whichever the case may be, and had children during the period of slavery, when freed they are free to go, but the spouse and children still remain.

If the slave being freed decides that they would rather stay the slave owner is to take the slave to a doorpost and punch a hole through the ear with an awl, then insert a ring to show that they are a free but remaining by choice, thus a pierced ear is an outward sign of voluntary servitude to someone else....not exactly what I would call an adornment.

I think piercings and tattoos are much more attractive then bad bleach blonde hair jobs, mullets, Christmas sweaters, perms, and mom jeans, but it's none of my business what other people choose to do, wear, or look like. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all have different ideas of what is attractive.

I have a small ring in my nose and four tattoos (all of those are covered by clothes), and I couldn't care less if other people don't think they're attractive. I like them and that's all that matters.

Live and let live.

I figure as long as I don't have to pay for it it is fine for someone to have piercings, tattoos, etc.

I think to me the creepiest piercing is the cheek piercing. That to me is truely bizarre. I feel like if someone has that and drinks some water, the water will come leaking out down the side of their face...not attractive.

MY next door neighbors son has such big holes in his ears that i could stick my biggest finger in them,UGLY,IMHO.He also has tatoos all over his body.Other than that he's a very nice guy,turned out much better than his brothers.

As for tatoos,i hate them,but different strokes for different folks.4 of my GK'S have a couple,in places where they are not too noticible,but i told them they shouldn't get anymore..I told the girls that that rosebud they may put on their boob,will become a long stemmed rose as they age,and everything heads south.

The tiny diamond stud on the side of the nose doesn't bother me though.

What i really hate is the gals that have every place on their arms and backs covered in tats,then put on a formal dress~~~~~~~~~~~GROSS,JMHO.

I think it looks low class. Don't jump all over for me for saying that, those that have tats and piercings, that's just the way I see it.

If I ever reach a point in my life that I judge someone based on outward appearance..just take me out behind the shed and shoot If tattoos and piercings bothered me, I would have missed out on meeting a lot of great people in my life!

I have a tattoo and I was 58ys. old when I got it! My tattoo is personal and special to ME! If someone wants to judge me because I have it, that's their choice. The people that judge and based that judgement on a Scripture they have pulled out of the Bible, seem to overlook the "Judge Not"!!;)

The hole-in-the-ear things are called gauges - and - ICK! I just don't like them at all. To each his own though.

Glenda, I can go along with ears pierced and perhaps a belly button ring. All these people walking around with piercings on their faces and other body parts is very disgusting IMO.

This reminds me of the most ridiculous tattoo I ever saw, this woman working at kiosk at the mall had this huge one on the side of her calf of two people standing up having sex! I kid you NOT! I couldn't believe my eyes! HA!

I remember years ago my then hubby and I were at a restaurant. The waitress was lisping and I looked closely and she had a little barbell in her tongue.

I asked her if it hurt (dumb question, but I can't imagine anyone doing that intentionally to their tongue).

She said it did, and she can't do 3 things for a few weeks.....drink anything real cold, or real hot.......and not give oral sex! Ahahahahhaaaaa. TMI! LOL

OH the irony jasdip since that last one is the whole reason to get the tongue piercing in the first place..HEEHEEHEE! I can't believe someone would say that to a customer...whatever! GAH!

In my town a high percentage of people have tattoos and piercings.

I'm quite used to it.

I pierced my ears when I was nineteen, and that was enough for me, though sometimes I feel a bit plain.

My daughter bought those ear-stretching things and had huge ugly holes. So ugly she had to go to a plastic surgeon to get them stitched back up. She paid for it herself. My younger daughter got a tattoo of a heart on her backside. At least no one can see it if she wears normal clothing.

I have no piercings or tattoos, DD does not, son does not, but GD has only her belly button and closed that. No ear piercings but she has small tattoos. 50 years from now these old people are going to look so stupid with their sagging skin and all the tats. A tiny tattoo on an ankle is okay but these people who cover their arms with large tats which look like bruises... ugly IMO.

I'm 72 and, much to my parents horror, I pierced my own ears when I was twelve. The gypsies used to come and sell flowers in Boston and I was so taken with their appearance that I wanted the earrings. Luckily I stopped at that but I have no problem with piercing or tats, I make no judgment on the people who have than and I actually like a well done tattoo. Heck what ever makes you happy.

I just really don't like chest tattoos, especially on women. I see a lot of them too. Yuck.

I got my ears pierced probably 20 years ago. The holes have probably since grown shut.

I don't mind ear or nose piercings. I don't mind small tats. What I do mind is tongue, eyebrow piercings, or tats that cover 95% of a persons body! That is just gross!

I have even been known to use washable tats at times, just for fun!!!

I find piercings and tats very curious. Some are outrageous and some are kinda yucky but overall I like them. When in public I try not to stare but sometimes curiosity gets the best of me. :)

On the other hand, I was in JC Penneys last weekend and one of the cashiers seemed to be having a problem with her tongue piercing and was messing with it. Although it didn't bother me much, I thought that had it been another customer, she surely would have been reported.

DD has her lip pierced and now that I'm used to it, I don't notice it much. One of my sons had his tongue pierced but has since allowed it to close up. I guess I really don't like tongue piercings all that much when it comes right down to it.

in her 30's, no other piercings or tattoos, none on my 2 sons
that I know of, also in their 30's. I don't care for them,
could just be my age, don't know what my 2 grandsons and grandaughter will do, they're under 10yrs old now.....

I'm all about live and let live but personally I find "excessive" piercings and tats to be a hideous sight so I try to avoid looking at them. It can be difficult to avoid though - especially the tats - they seem to be every where. I hardly consider it an expression of individualism - more like herd mentality.

Hate piercings other than ear lobes. I want to get a tatoo for my 50th b-Day which is coming up on Sept. 9th. It's going to be a Triquatra on my ankle.

A friend of ours owns several funeral homes and he said that if people saw how a tatoo looks after death they would not ever get one. Especially if they are now older.

I agree with you giddy3000, it is plain and simple the herd mentality. So much of that going on these days it's like people don't even have their own brains anymore. I was raise by my parents to be a leader not a follower and was told it's wrong to follow what everyone else is doing...so I live by that in my life. Mom always said "monkey see monkey do" anytime I wanted something just because that's what everyone else had.

Can anyone give me one reason why I should giveadamn what the people at the Funeral Home think? I don't care what people say NOW! Those Funeral Home employees don't get paid to think, they get paid to "look sad" at a $25,000.00 funeral!;) Imagine having to stand around with a family you don't even know and having to look all sad...while "Cha-Ching" is ringing in your ears!

I wasn't following "herd mentality" when I got my tattoo! I got mine a personal memorial to my husband. I couldn't care less if I have or don't have the approval of anyone.

Some of these "opinions" are getting downright hurtful and insulting. There are many people who participate on this forum who choose body art for a wide variety of reasons. Saying it's herd mentality, saying they don't have control of their own brains...just rude.

It's fine to have an opinion on the subject but it bothers me to see people purposely hurt and insult others while expressing it. There are ways to say you aren't a fan without trying to wound others.

Let's face it folks. Tatoos have been in and out of favor for hundreds of years. This is not a new phenom. If you go into this knowing that, God willing, you'll live long enough for it to not be "in favor", then, go for it. Based on that, who cares what is said while you're alive much less dead. Unfortunately, most young people get tatoos and later regret the decision. I just think it's an adult decision and should not be made by someone not old enough to live on their own and pay for it.

I'm not a fan of the excess piercings or tatoos. To me, it ruins the look of otherwise beautiful people. Whether people like it or not, it affects how other people look at you. It doesn't bother me if an older person does it and is established in life. Younger people who do it are often ruining their chances for a decent job.

All too often, I see tattoos and piercings on people who really needed to spend the money on food, clothing, and shelter. It's hard for me be generous with my money to donate to those "in need" at the food banks, shelters, etc., when I see them standing there with bad choices on display.

call me out of touch but i can't stand facial piercings, other than a small nose stud........
