Slippers with good foot support

I am hoping to get some recommendations. Our house is a "take off your shoes upon entering" house. I wear slippers all year round inside. I am finding that I need more foot support as I get older - no surprise, right? Can you recommend a slipper that is in the price range of $20-$50, machine washable & provides good support? I would like a slipper for summer - open toe if possible, and a slipper for winter - I live in the Northeast so WARM is important.

I had the same issues as you - no shoes in the house and needing more support than slippers offer. My answer was to buy crocs or any shoe/slipper that's comfortable and only wear them indoors, never outside. The soles stay clean and not exposed to outdoor dirt or germs.

That is a gorgeous picture - congrats on growing those beauties. Its too late for this year, but a couple of suggestions: Peony rings with the criss/crossed grid inside the round frame - will hold up the lower stems and the plant grows right through it. you can get these really tall. Tomato cages work also. Ditto the linking stakes that you sink in the ground and then have like a hook and eye attachment - you can make your circle any size. wooden stakes or green bamboo and string will loosely hold up the billowing stems and you can get them in place after the flopping starts if you have a helper. I use 8 ft green bamboo stakes and green garden twine to tie up some things like dahlias, Lilium Black Beauty - 7 footer. But the very best holder upper I've ever found is the plant itself. If you haven't read Tracy diSabato-Aust's book called the Well Tended Perennial Garden, she describes in great detail how to pinch or prune plants to make the plant more compact and delay blooming. I have started to cut my heliopsis in 3 layers, kind of like a wedding cake - shortest on the outside ring, then another layer that ends up about 4 ft tall. The center is left alone. This doesn't have to be so exact because I want the plant to look relaxed and natural, not rigid and defined, but it does prolong the bloom time and also the outside rings hold up the center on what has become a very large plant.

The description is unclear. A masonry "veneer" is nominal 4" thick masonry supported on a foundation (that extends below the frost line) with a cavity between the masonry and the sheathing of a back up wall (wood or concrete block). If that is the case I recommend using concrete block behind the masonry veneer and extending down to the frost line. If by "veneer" you mean some kind of thin light-weight imitation masonry product, I would use a cement board sheathing over pressure treated wood frame supported at the corners (piers to frost line) or a concrete block wall like described above. Where the wall comes close to the house wall you must remove the siding and install flashing under the siding and over the wall cap (or into a reglet cut into the wall cap. Otherwise water will collect in the small gap and eventually cause everything to have to be removed and replaced including the wall of the house. Why does the new wall need to be so thick? Why can't the platform be extended to the side wall (against the foundation with proper flashing and pitched to drain away from the house) and some kind of tile installed to cover it. You could also consider covering the platform with composite decking and installing a wood or composite railing or bench around the perimeter.

i wear them 24/7/365 .. yeah.. i even sleep in them ... and they last 2 to 3 years ... i usually get a blow out in the sole ... that lets water in ... as noted ... i fill them with hot water and a part scoop of laundry detergent once or twice a year ... let them stand an hour or so ... then throw them in the washer with some rag towels ... i have the short shoe type ... i prefer to let them dry in summer out in the sun ... i am pretty sure.. a hot dryer would not be good as they age ... and my god.. all that thumping ... lol .. so i try to wash them in spring and fall .. to avoid the dryer ... ken

Cost to add cement footings to deck/addition support columns

We had the following work done to shore up our foundation under the house. Cost was about $7,000. Crawl Space: Pulled necessary permits. Dug a total of 5 – 18”x24”x8” footings in specified areas. Poured new footings with concrete. Constructed a total of 5 – 8”x16” masonry piers with 8” solid caps. Replaced three sets of existing 2x6 dropped girders using 3 – 1 ¾” x 5 ½” LVL’s. Shimmed new dropped girders to floor joists. Cut back floor joists at front door unit in order to replace damaged house band. Replaced damaged house band using pressure treated materials. Installed new floor joists from existing dropped girder to front foundation wall in same area. Doubled existing joists under left side of steps. Doubled existing joist under wall between laundry room and bathroom.

We have ceramic tile throughout most of the first level and light colored turquoise carpet in the remainder of it so comfort and support are important to me as well. I to am a croc wearer. I keep one pair for the inside of the house and two for outside. One I use in the garden and the other I wear in the pool. I was having charlie horses in the pool and found this really helped. I do have to take them off when I'm swimming though but they float around and I grab them when I need them. For winter they do the the lined ones but I find a good pair of wool socks works just fine.

I like LL Bean's Wicked Good Moccasins. They are not washable, but I wear a pair inside for a couple of years. I like them because I can put soft insoles inside and they are very comfy and warm too. Sometimes I wear my Clarks clogs around the house. We don't have the "no shoes" rule, but it would be nice to do.

Dr.Comfort has wonderful shoes and they do carry slippers. These are the shoes my doc recommends to me and they are often prescribed by podiatrist and diabetic specialist.

I have trouble with plantar fasciitis from time to time. When that happens, I generally put orthotics in my regular slippers or Dr. Scholls support gels.
