casey -- Thanks for that lovely link! DH and I were wondering this morning why nothing we read indicated anything about his family.

He's not the first person I've known who ran as fast as he could away from not just Hollywood, but California. Especially people with kids.

Here along the north shore we could *really* realate to his teen angst movies. Gosh, they were filmed in our homes and high schools!

I remember when my 16th birthday came, I wished so bad that it would turn out awesome just like "Samantha Baker's from "Sixteen Candles". And any girl my age who grew up with not a lot of money dreamed of being like Andy in Pretty in Pink, and finding a sweet guy like Blaine.

He made so many movies that were a big part of my teenage years.

Has anyone seen anything that mentions his survivors? That seems really weird, especially here in Chicago.

I thought it was so funny during (I think) the Emmys this year, John Cryer was talking on stage and someone from the audience yelled "we love you Duckie!"
John Hughes' movies were a HUGE part of a lot of teenagers lives. I can't imagine my teen years without them.

I finally found a death notice in our Sunday Chicago Tribune that listed his survivors (wife of 39 years and two sons, plus grandkids). Was *amazed* to see our local funeral home listed. I never knew he lived here! (Guess that was how they wanted it -- understandable.) Bequests to American Heart Assoc. and Northwestern Hospital.
