Gwanny2three, how is little Austin doing?

I've been thinking about him all day and wondering how you are doing, too. I remember what a mess I was when my GS Ryan was in the hospital. It's so hard to see them suffering and scared in a strange place.

Well my son just called to tell me that it is for sure a staph infection and because it's still pretty red up towards his back he will be in there for at least 2-3 more days. It's not in his blood stream or bones, so that's good news. And we can go see him! My youngest son just went up there, he'll be happy to see his "gunkle" LOL(uncle)! I have to wait for papa to get home from and these other kids to leave then I get to go see him. My son said he's getting pretty antsy in the room he's in. It's hard to keep a toddler cooped up in a small room. Plus he still has the IV so he can't do a lot of moving around. This is not going to be a fun week for sure. :O(
Thank you for asking about him.....I can't wait to go see him! I'm going to get him some little cars and trains to play with while he's in there, I can't imagine what it's going to be like for him stuck in a tiny room for days! Granny to the rescue ...I hope!

They need to put him on a walking IV. It's much easier to take a stroll about and there is no way to expect a toddler to stay put when he's feeling better! LOL
Been there done that.
I hope the meds begin to heal him quickly!

Hello all! We got a chance to make it out to Otto and Sons today (just missing the sale unfortunately). We took a look at quite a few roses new to both of us and ended up generally going in a different direction from Austins. The Austin test bed there afforded my mom a chance to see Munstead Wood blooming in person which was very elucidating. She liked it, but didn't love it like the photos of it she had seen. She would probably still like to try it, but not enough to get several. We did get several Rose de Rescht to try however. The scent and color was very nice in person, and the shrubs looked quite nice. We also picked up a Distant Drums which is one of her favorites. I really did know it when I saw it from a distance! There were almost too many interesting things! We nearly got a Rosa Viridiflora, Rosa Rubrifolia/Glauca, Lady of Shallot, and George Burns. The one Austin we did get that most impressed my mother in person was an Ambridge Rose. I know some have reported rust, but neither I nor my mom recall ever seeing it on even the most neglected of roses that we've tried. You have to take some chances in the long run, so this will be one. Queen of Sweeden was a close second for those who had mentioned it. Much more apricot in person than most photos suggested. It may have just been the one left was not the best shrub, but Sharifa Asma didn't catch my mom's eye. It was a nice plus to add a new OGR cultivar to the ranks of the couple of true Teas, one HP, and a few older Polyanthas present (not true OGRs I know). Thanks for all of your input! Jay

I haven't been to see him. He hasn't wanted any visitors for some time. Another one of my neices went to see him anyway today and she said he got in a wheelchair and they got him outside for the first time in a month and a half. He had a beer and a cigarette! I guess he wants to go out enjoying what he enjoys! I was really surprised to hear that he got up at all. My sister had sent me the wedding pictures and it really bothered me to see them, but I was glad to have them at the same time. It just disturbed me to see him so lifeless in bed like that. Ihad such mixed emnotions about the pictures...but happy to have them. She didn't think he'd last through that first week home. He is very strong willed, always has been. Maybe this is his last fight and he is going to give it all he's got.

I wish they could....my son just called and he said he still has a fever and is quite warm. I talked to him on the phone, he said he smiled a little, but said nothing. I feel so bad for him. Poor thing isn't feeling good again. That fever goes up and he feels terrible. I am so glad he's where he needs to be right now.

How did he get a staph infection? He, and your family, will get prayers sent. You're right, the little guy is where he can get what he needs.

Keeping Austin in my thoughts. I know how it is keeping a toddler still in a hospital room. DD was in hospital for 30 days when 18 months old. Told to keep her off her feet! Ha! its almost impossible to do. Try getting Austin some books that mom or Dad can read to him. That will help for a little while.
