I can't answer you question, can only say I don't even have curtains only blinds that I leave open from sun up to sundown. If I have sun damage that is the price for living in the light. To me it is like letting the outside in. I only close blinds when the sun interferes with TV or on the PC monitor.

Sometimes you just have to trust them. LOL If they would void the warrantee, they must be pretty sure of their product. I would find a small piece of the fabric that could be cut offor at least hidden from the UV, or an arm cover if it came with one and keep it out of the sunlight to compare if you think down the road it is being damaged.
Make your own warrantee. LOL

i've become a bit of a home expert in windows as of late since we are replacing old windows in our home, ourselves. if your windows are double or triple pane and you have argon gas between, you can not use the window film. our old windows & sliding doors have/had this mirror reflective film we put on (we're in orlando BTW). the mirror reflective film builds up heat between the panes and will cause them to either crack or cause a release of the argon gas by loosening seals from the high interior heat.

my biggest window problem was the east side, masters bedroom, that as no tree cover and is in blazing central FL sun sun-up to sun-down. we just replaced those windows a few weekends ago and we installed pella vinyl, double paned, argon gas, tempered glass (less than 18" off floor) w/ a special sun glass for south facing windows (FL standard). their UV rating is 98%. those windows are cool to the touch :-0 but compared to the extreme darkening film, very very bright lol. i can't tell you how many times i reach for the light switch to turn off a light that is not on, it's just soooo much brighter :-)

my problem w/ them is there is no longer privacy film that we have lived w/ for 10 yrs LOL ;-) DH just installed 1 cellular top down-bottom shade i picked up at bed, bath & beyond so that we can get light thru the top still but walk around in the a.m. brushing teeth in our underwear LOL. you might think about cellular shades, i couldn't find cheaper top-down/bottom-up room darkening shades but just single cell do a very nice job of filtering sun. ~ liz

I have Bali bottom up- top down cellular and really like them. We got them at Lowes. JC Penny's had them but they had to have a 70% off sale to match Lowe's regular price. Penny's is so high on window dressings.

Our new windows are Anderson SmartSun-low E. I'm not sure about the Argon gas. They are replacements for the origianl Andersons that were installed when the house was built in '75. They served us well but it was time for new ones. We are very happy with them but I already see some fading in my sofa & loveseat slipcovers. It is not much but I sure don't want it to continue.

vala55...I will check the JCPenny's and Lowe's for the shades. I was thinking of cellular shades or even the ones that are the thin, reflective film in a shade roller.

liz...you are in Orlando? Do people down there have the UV protective window screens? I had never heard of them but then again, I'm up in the north east. I found a place on line that sells them by the roll or the ft. Very expensive but worth it if they worked. I looks like they just cast more shade by using smaller or 'different' holes in whatever material they are made from. What you said about the reflective film causing a build up of heat between the panes makes a lot of sense.

sooey, yes i'm in orlando, NE burbs actually. people do have UV screens here. i like the idea thou honestly w/ our weather you don't open windows till end of Nov or Dec and then by march it's back to closed LOL. i just don't want the black screens, especially just the lower portion. another negative is they are more expensive and during a mild hurricane you would probably want to bring those inside. of course during something more than mild you might board up, thou these new windows do have a low hurricane rating ie they have some breakage resistence. we will probably never board up again. for me it's really just the dk black screening, i have a light tan house w/ ivory trim so those screens will not blend.

lowe's does have good prices on cellular shades. i just got the BB&B because i only wanted white & just for privacy & i'm adding double curtains and we are only going to be here for another yr or two. they were $32. (23 x 64) after the 20% coupon. there are some very nice ones avail thou thru special order. ~ liz

Thanks Liz. I have looked at the UV screens on line and I could get them in several different colors but it does seem that they are very very visable from the street. I guess that might be a bit of over-kill for me. I will think about the cellular shades again. The one issue I am trying to avoid is the morning ritual of of lowering the blinds and them opening the blinds in the afternoon. We get so much wonderful, direct sun light in this house, from sun up till sun down. It's a wonderful delema to have but, it's still a delema. Thanks for you help and input.
