My godmother beat that one.

She married Fred S. at a young age; his meddlesome mother broke up the marriage. She married Fred G. and they were married for many years before she divorced him. By then, Fred S's mother had passed on, so she remarried Fred S., and they remained married until his death. When her best friend died, she married her DH (Clyde). They remained married until his death. After his death, she got back with Fred G, but he died before they could remarry.

She has DH #1 (who was also DH #3) on one side; DH #4 on the other side; and DH #2 at her feet! She was a fun lady!!

Lulu has a different name altogether. Where's MR. Hallett?

I like the photos, keep them coming! My Grandmother was widowed twice. Her first husband, Mr. Jannette, died of the Spanish Flu in 1918. She remarried, had my mother in 1923, and her second husband died in an accident in 1930. I know shelived to age 77 in 1961.

If Mary Smith married John Doe she would be called "Mrs. Doe," but her legal named remained Mary Smith. Her children would all carrry the "Doe" name.

Why we women started changing our names after marriage still baffles me. I didn't change mine for seven years, but it caused extra explanations and forms at tax time. DH seemed stressed that I didn't have his name, so I changed it. I still don't consider myself "Caroline S." I was born, and will die, "Caroline C." After 16 years of marriage, and nine years of using the "S" name, I still catch myself saying and writing the real "C" name.

Alisande, be careful when you visit cemeteries. I heard that there have been quite a few rapes and murders there. The women get distracted while doing their work and don't notice who might come in or where they are. So many cemeteries are out in the country where no one can see you or hear you calling for help. It might be a good idea to take someone with you. I would love to do what you are doing but my husband needs my care and I can't be gone for very long. The last time I went grocery shopping I came home to find him on the bathroom floor. I want to thank you from all of us who do genealogy for the work you are doing. It is a great help to us. vique.

While researching my family roots, I found at least 2 grandfathers who had 3 wives at differing times. In the 1800s on the US frontier, disease and childbearing were major hazards for women. For men, it was disease, military duty, and farm accidents. I have records of several deaths associated with horses. Malaria, Cholera, Yellow fever, Tuberculocis, and Diptheria were killers.

I've been doing genealogy since my dad passed away in 1977 and I had to find his sister to let her know. Aunt Mary and I did research, me in MN and she in WA. If it wasn't for me bugging her incessantly, we never would have gotten further than her father. She had a traumatic upbringing and it caused her a lot of pain to remember, but she finally remembered the town of Mound Valley KS from a one-time visit from her grandmother. That cracked things open and I was able to go back a couple of more generations. Haven't had ANY luck finding Dad's family in England before 1800 though. On one side, we can go back to BC times.
