Sounds like the makings of a fine meal tomorrow ... including being bedevilled by deveilled eggs (dang those keyboards!) ... and on a Sunday, yet!

The head of what has been our third party, who was a councillor in Toronto for several years, then got into federal politics, was chosen leader of that third party a few years ago and achieved a major increase in their number of seats in parliament in an election last month, to give them the second largest number of seats, thus the official ooppposition, has just died and they're having his state funeral in a large hall in Toronto this afternoon.

I'm going to a hall in London after this where a number of his supporters are gathering to watch it.

He was respected as one who'd fought for increased services for the homeless, of whom there have been quite a few in Toronto for years, women's rights, gay rights and better services for aboriginals, and has campaigned for years for conservation issues.

After his death last Monday, some Canadians came on here to bid him farewell - including some who said that they'd never voted for his party: the New Democratic Party.

I was to run an errand for a more or less arm's length friend, but lost his phone number, so won't be able to meet him.

I tried a different way, supposedly easier, in erecting poles for my pole beans, and a wind came and knocked one of the poles over, which allowed others to slip sideways and I've got most of that fixed, but there's more to do ... and I need to extend the poles above their current five feet or so, then add more strings, as the vines are high - and waving.

Beans to pick, cherry tomatoes (drat - it takes a lot of picking to fill a bucket ... and about half of them split) and I think some regular-sized ones will be ready by morning.

Just saw a sign on friends' mailbox this morning - "Moving Sale", as they, formerly deeply rooted in their farm and having sold it recently and having deteriorated health lately, are moving to a seniors' apartment complex shortly.

Bright blue sky ... nice day ... good health ... roof over my head ... three squares a day ... and figure that I can manage such through the remaining days of my life ...

... so life is good.

I'd love to stop by for a visit, Sue. The food sounds yummy. I'll eve hang around to wash dishes after. Here on Long Island I'm getting ready for Hurricane Irene tomorrow (Sunday). I picked the last of my tomatoes, put away my lawn furniture. All that's left is to bring the garbage cans into the garage so they don't blow away. I'll let everyone know Monday how I made out. That's assuimg we have eletricity on Monday!

I forgot to add I have a good sized basket of tomatoes to wash and clean and freeze and most of those look like the cherry ones. Mike picked them and they brought them over last night. I love fresh green beans OJ! The kids didn't plant any this year. Maybe next year Cheryl and I will have a garden again here. Jannie will pray the weather doesn't get too bad in your area for all of you folks. Stop by and I am sure there will be dishes to do after we eat of course :)

We're overcast here but muggy. I had a haircut appointment so we went to that and then grabbed lunch out.

Working on trying to get 2 dozen kids' train reservations all rebooked to come home Monday since the trains out of Philly were all canceled. And of course there is my boss.....he's in Milton NY and now he's stuck there....and his American Express card was compromised so we had a new one issued and over-nighted to him via UPS. It's missing in action now!

I decided today was the day to clean out the shed/barn on the property where I keep my gardening "stuff", tools, mulch, what have you; plus one part of it was made into a stall for a pet sheep I had years ago, then I built a dog kennel out of it. I wanted to knock down the stall and open the barn up to its original space. Started at 11am and finally got too tired around 3:30p and called it a day.

What a bunch of junk I found in there! I have it all sorted into piles outside, the keep pile, the throw-away, the give-away, ect. Plus three huge garbage bags of dirt and bits. I was able to knock down one wall of the stall but my Dad must have put a dozen nails in each board on the other side. I couldn't budge those rails even with a crowbar. Then I began pitching old straw out at the one end, but that's when 3:30p. came around.

Sure did scare the heck out of one little field mouse in an old piece of spouting. I picked up the spouting and he/she leaped out from within! And SO many walnut shells heaped up in one corner. A chipmunk's storehouse.

Cloudy and comfortable all day. Not a speck of rain, and Irene isn't supposed to affect us. (Southwestern ON)

I stayed in all day and made a new French bread recipe. Between the first rise, second rise, forming into loaves and rising yet again, this was a pretty lengthy project. But here are the fruits of my labour.
