I have some brownies in the oven, got a piece of beef out of the freezer, going to cook some baby lima beans. It's fairly warm, but not nice enough to hang out clothes, but I did yesterday, it was nice!

Always on Saturday morning, I listen to 'The Saturday Light Brigade" radio show. Turn it on when I get up and stay with it till it is over at noon. I putter around the house doing quiet jobs during the broadcast that comes from The Childrens Museum in Pittsburgh. A family oriented show that includes word games and encourages listener participation by phone or on-line. The 6 hour show showcases local talent and school groups with many different and entertaining subjects covered each week. You can tune in here:

This morning I'm getting ready to go on a much needed hike in the hills. I am so out of shape right now.

After I get home, DH and I will once again go out researching stuff for a home remodel we are in the middle of right now. All new backyard, atrium, French doors, windows, etc. Can't wait for it to be over.

We just got up and are here in my sewing room. He has his IPad and me on the computer. We are having our first cuppa and chatting.

I made a loaf of nanner bread and now contemplating making a few pies..... apple and blueberry.. I still have about 20 lbs. of blueberries from last summers crop and they need to be used... and pie is a good way to use a lot of them at one time.. It is kind of rainy and warm, and a good day to bake.. makes the house smell good...

I am almost done... would be done if I didn't come back to the computer so often...

I am putting away the piles I made the last couple of days. I REALLY need my file cabinet back. Was looking for some papers, and went through my paper basket. Eventually I had 12 different piles... and all but two have been filed away now. I resorted to large envelopes, and have the subject of the stuff inside written on the outside, and have them on a shelf in alphabetical order.

My apartment is almost cleaned up now. This afternoon I am leading a bike ride from here, to around the lake, about 20 miles.

Hope everyone has just the Saturday they wish for.

Taking down the Christmas decorations. Just now finished the tree except for the star, needed a break and a cup of coffee. As I take the ornaments of the tree, I wrap each one in tissue paper unless there is a specific box for some. This year it seemed to take forever! I don't remember taking that long to put them on.

It's a sunny 43 degrees today, so first thing this morning I took the outside wreath of the door and the string of lights off the Irish Juniper in the courtyard. Thursday it's suppose to snow, rain before that. When I finished inside here, I'm going out for a walk.

Just doing the normal Sat. chores, laundry is almost done, finished dusting and need to run the vacuum...After that, it's probably football, football and more football.....

Off to Ikea with dd in a couple of hours, when she is off work. I listen to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" on NPR at 11; it's usually very funny. It's been clear here for weeks and weeks, cold (upper 30's, low 40's) in the morning but warm (upper 60's) in the afternoons. We need some good rain!

It's a beautiful sunny day here, and we were doing some maintenance on the greenhouse, and then I did some planting in the greenhouse. I'm resting now because my head hurts, and then I'm going to putter in the sewing room. I'm making french fries tonight with my new fryer. We don't fry often (which is why I JUST got around to replacing ours), but DH really likes home fries, and I just found a new technique for doing them.

I usually get up early but had dinner guests last night so it was almost eight when I made it out of bed. Read the newspaper, worked the 3 puzzles in the paper, keeping my brain exercised.LOL By then,DH, who hardly ever gets up early, crawled out of bed. Had bacon and poached eggs for breakfast and then watched UT basketball game, which is just now over...we won!!!! Guess I'll have to go shower and take it kinda easy the rest of the day. (Laundry's not too difficult). Lazy kind of drizzly, rainy day.

Slept in really late this morning, after being up late last night putting together a desk. Made "breakfast" for the kids, egg, rice, cheese & cabbage. Just put a chuck roast in the crock pot. Sola was going to make us a traditional New Years meal from Korea, but my kids are going to their dad's so that will have to wait till they come back tomorrow.

Went grocery shopping yesterday, late in the evening and forgot a few things, including dog food. So, I have to go back after I finally shower.

I also need to steam clean the living room carpet. I picked up a new dog, a foster dog named Chico Friday and he knocked over my cup of coffee last night. There wasn't room with all the desk pieces all over the place to do it last night, so Lauren just spot cleaned it. There's a big stain there now.

Oh, speaking of Chico, we have renamed him Chewbacca because he looks just like Chewbacca from Star Wars. I don't like the name Chico either. He seems to like his new name too. ( : He's about 9 months old and is huge. He's part Golden Retriever and I think Chow. His head is huge and so are his paws. He's so sweet and was really shy and nervous at first but is now romping around the house. He slept in Lauren's room on her bed, along with Bushido (the cat) and our other dog, Emily. She said Chewy practically slept on top of her-lol.

I'm already thinking of adopting him instead of just fostering him.

DH is at work. I slept in, going grocery shopping, cleaning the house, etc.

Was up most of the night worrying about our cat, Smokey. I am almost 100% sure he ate the string that ties up the rotisserie chicken I got from Costco yesterday. So I called the vet this morning and took him in. They called this afternoon and said the surgery went fine and they got the string out. This isn't what I had in mind for this weekend. LOL

I did take a nap as I couldn't keep my eyes open. Will go pick up Smokey at 4:30.

So sorry about Smokey, sure hope he mends quickly.

The entire family was up at 9am to run the woodsplitter and stow the logs we split...it was a backbreaking affair but it's done and now we got us some serious wood!

this should last us thru next winter...it's mostly for fun...it warms up the basement room about 5 degrees or more...maybe some goes up thru the floor I don't know...but I do enjoy a fire!

no sleeping in for us today..the alarm went off at 6am and we were at a indoor soccer game at 7am!! it was one of the few saturday games we could get to see our dgds...most are on thurs and dh just can't get home soon enough from work...

got home about 8:30 and fixed breakfast...did a little vac, and dh made some repairs on the porch...we use heavy duty plastic to keep the snow out but we had these wind gusts that shredded 2 sections...

What a lovely day it was here! Can't imagine a day in the 60's in mid-January. A gift!

Anyway, to answer the question:

Up at 6:30. Packed the car, on the road by 7, heading to the country house. Stopped along the way for breakfast and a quick dash into Walmart. Got to the house in the country. Unpacked the car, unpacked the cartons of stuff we'd moved, checked the week's worth of mail we'd gotten. Put out the trash. DH cleaned pine needles off the roof of the garage while I made a case for my Kindle. Repacked the car with stuff we needed at the suburban house, locked up, went to the bank. Headed toward home, made a detour to have lunch at 25 Burgers, home before 12:30.

WOW Liz... that is a lOT of wood!

SH let me sleep in while he ran some errands. I woke up at 8:30 and just puttered around the house.

Tomorrow I am making nut cups and doing my ironing.

I also spend most of Saturdays splitting wood for our home - except I do it the old fashioned way - by hand! I use an 8 lb splitting maul and 4-5 lb wedges when I split the firewood - just use little axes for splitting kindling. We heat our home with our fireplace - rarely use the electric heat - so it takes a fair amount of firewood.

I didn't split any firewood today, though - I had a bilateral hernia operation last month and for some reason the surgery area has been really bothering me. So it felt good to take the day off, relax in front of the fire with a book and a cat.

A wood splitter sounds nice though, but I wouldn't get the workout from it.
