DH's birthday party was fun! Thanks to you guys for the suggestions for the writing. This is what I went with...

Jeanne, what a beautiful setting. It all looks lovely together. Your DGM compote dish w/glass spoon and the other depression dishes are so neat. DF keeps telling me she is going to give me a snack set in pink that was DH's aunts and I can hardly wait. I love all of these dishes. I need to try setting a table w/o a full tc and see if I like it. You might need to bring out some more place settings if the gang shows up.LOL Simply gorgeous. Punk

((Thanks)) everyone...he really loved it! First thing he did was take a photo and put it on his phone LOL! He didn't get home till quite late Sunday night so he didn't cut it till last night but said it tasted great. I'm glad he got a kick out of it and thanks again for all the nice comments. Taigen

I would do a blue background. if you have a small star cookie cutter you could use it as a template to scatter stars where the mask doesn't cover. Or do them freehand. Fill the stars in with bright yellow icing and sprinkle them with edible glitter. Wilton makes a great edible glitter. A little goes a long way and you can buy a jar at Michael's or similar stores for around 3 dollars. I sift a pinch of glitter between my fingers rather than shake from a jar.

Thanks guys! We have such fun every year planning and making the cakes. I have a slideshow album on photobucket with most of the cakes. We've had a few duds along the way but for the most part they've turned out pretty well for a pair of amateurs :) I LOVE the marble work area. It's a moveable island and we can both work on our cakes at the same time there. And yes, I know that elf is the cutest thing ever! And I think how much I miss having little elves around but then the elf starts crying and I remember how hard it can be having little elves to care for. But I enjoy every minute I get to spend with that precious angel because the time goes by so quickly and before you know it they are half grown! Wishing all my CF friends a very Merry Christmas! Awww...thanks guys! *tear, sniff*. I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm NOT artistic at all--I just like being creative. I had to buy the swords in the medieval section of Party City. It was a questionable purchase, lol. The cake stayed surprisingly moist despite the fact that it hadn't been covered in the fridge for 2 days (ewww, I know).

Great lookin cake and sentiment!! I always made peopl wait at least an hour when it was presented just so everyone could look at it and go "oh!!" and "Ah!" After I felt enough of them then we could cut it and eat it!!
