Color Ideas for Commitment-Phobes
Safe Ways to Create Your Own Unique Palette for Any Room
I don't know about you, but I struggle with a split personality when it comes to design. I love the calming feel of a neutral palette, all subtle hues and textures. But I also love color, and I'm often afraid to take the plunge for fear that I might get sick of it and then have to suffer buyer's remorse, or worse, have to repaint. Here are some ways you get your cake and eat it too.
Even though all you might see are these fabulous orange-pink chairs, this is really an all-white room.
This room is a favorite of Houzz contributors and for good reason: The perfect balance of a mostly gray palette accented with the yellow sofa and orange toned wood top make me want to move in, tomorrow.
Browns, creams, blacks, whites — and then that one bit of blue. Again, one chair can do that. The pink flowers won't last, so no worries about commitment there.
I just love gray; can't get enough of it. With the complementary colors of the orange flowers against the blue chairs this room looks like a colorful room. It's all about accents.
Rich brown with the contrast of pinkish red. That little bench could be reupholstered in an afternoon if you decided to change the palette.
It's hard to believe, but this room is completely neutral if you take away the bed cover and the pillows.
This kitchen table could be painted a dozen times over the years, completely changing the look of this space. A few accent pillows to tie it all together, but this is still a basically neutral room.
One purple light fixture takes this foyer from safe to fabulous.
I wouldn't want to repaint it, but this ceiling is terrific!
